Main features
Chemical resistance
Laminam resists to organic and inorganic solvents, disinfectants
and detergents. It can be easily cleaned without
affecting its surface characteristics; the only product
that can attack the slabs is hydrofluoric acid.
Wear resistance.
Laminam is highly scratchproof and resistant to deep
abrasion. The properties of the slabs remain unchanged
even after intensive use and frequent cleaning.
Frost resistance
Laminam’s average water absorption is 0.1% therefore it
is frost resistant and suitable for any weather condition.
Fire resistance
Laminam does not contain organic material therefore it
is resistant to fire and high temperatures. In the event of
fire it does not release smoke or toxic substances.
High flexural strength
Laminam has a high modulus of rupture.
Hygienic surface
Laminam is perfectly suitable for food substances since
it does not release elements in solution. It does not allow
the formation of mould, bacteria and fungi.
Chromatic properties
Laminam does not contain organic pigments and is
resistant to UV rays. Even if subjected to severe climate
changes, the colours remain stable.
Eco-friendly and recyclable
Laminam is a totally natural product. It does not release
any elements into the environment and can be easily
milled and recycled in other manufacturing processes.
Graffiti proof
Laminam is the first graffiti proof ceramic surface; it is
easy to clean and even the strongest paints can be easily
removed.
Technical infos
Laminam® is suitable for many indoor and outdoor applications:
Façade cladding systems :
Ventilated façades, coatings, external claddings.
Building sector:
Floor and wall coverings, partition and storage
walls, false ceilings, surface finishes and restoration, insulated
panels, tunnels and undergrounds.
Interior design:
Surfaces of kitchen and bathroom tops, cupboards, tables, desks,
doors and furnishings in general.
Shipbuilding sector:
The lightness and high technical properties of Laminam make it
suitable for floors and walls of cruise ships and sports crafts.
Composite and structural panels:
The slabs can be placed on top of each other or over other materials
to create extremely light and particularly resistant composite and
structural panels suitable in all those cases that require high
resistance and reduced weight load on the surface.
Installation on fibre cement board
This system also provides a better thermal
insulation and it’s particular useful for unstable
or not perfectly even substrate.
Ventilated facade
Winter period
Laminam’s envelope protects the
building from weathering. In addition
termic insulation keeps the
temperature steady inside the building.
Summer period
Laminam’s envelope protects the
building from solar radiation. Moreover
the chimney effect created inside the
cavity wall produces a natural
ventilation that evacuates heat.
CELL FIXING SYSTEMThe slabs can be applied, by means of structural silicon, on metallic
frame to realize complete prefabbricated panels.
These panels are used in ventilated façades to create a cell fixing
system.
This system offers some advantages: quality control of the production
in the workshop and excellent machining accuracy than façades
made entirely on site .
The installation of the panels on the substructure is very easy and
fast.
As the other systems, static design and design of all the elements
that compose the façade are to care for engineer in charge from
system supplier.
RIVETS FIXING SYSTEMThe slabs are installed on façade by means of a system of rivets
that is visible from the outside: the slabs must be perforated
before the installation.
A neoprene adeguate thin gasket is applied between the slab
and the rivets.
The substructure, which the slab is applied through rivets,
usually is placed at a distance of 50 cm or 75 cm.
The clips can be varnished in the same colour of the slabs, if
this is request.
DIRECT FIXING SYSTEMDirect fixing system uses structural silicon or polyurethane
adhesives.
Siliconic or polyurethanic weld is applied vertically on metallic
profile of the substructure; after the slab is fixed to vertical profile.
The substructure, which the slab is applied through structural
silicon or polyurethane adhesives, usually is placed at a distance of
50 cm or 75 cm.
CLIP FIXING SYSTEMThe slabs are applied on façade and fixed on the substructure through
metallic and exposed clips.
The distinctive features of this system is that the slabs can be installed
on façade without any particular processing on the edges and on the
back.
The support clips are visible from the outside.
The clips can be varnished in the same colour of the slabs, if this is
request.
The slab is made united to the clip by means of the interposition of
neoprene gasket between the fixing and the slab. The substructure,
which the slab is applied through the clips, usually is placed at a
distance of 50 cm or 75 cm.
CURTAIN WALL FACADE
The Laminam slabs can be applied to the same
profiles used for the application of the glass on
curtain wall facade, using strcural silicone.

Laminam 3+,Laminam 5 and Laminam 12 are designed to be installed on any newly-
built or pre-existing building substrate, provided that this substrate possesses
suitable mechanical strength and finishing for the installation.

through direct adhesion.
Residential flooring or covering application either
on screed or existing floors not affected by
heavy traffic, through direct adhesion.
Laminam 12 Residential and heavy commercial flooring. This
format is available in slab of 1600x3200mm
instead of the usual 1000x3000mm.
SUBSTRATE PREPARATION
Mechanical abrasion
To install Laminam on existing floors in polished ceramic
porcelain, after checking the consistency of the existing floor, and
that it is fully adhered to the substrate, carry out mechanical
abrasion if the surface is smooth or polished.
Flatness
Flatness
If the substrate is not flat along
the majority of the surface to be
installed (maximum permissible
tolerance of 3 mm measured
on a straight edge of 2 m long).
Level the entire area using
suitable products.
If the base is not flat only in
certain areas,
correct this by removing or scraping
away the excess parts and filling any
holes using the same adhesive as
for the subsequent installation.
Anti-breakage mat
If it is not possible to adhere to the expansion joints of the
existing floor or there are settlement cracks or specific damage
in marble of natural stone floors, apply an anti-breakage mat
prior to installation to intercept any movement and make the
substrate even. Using anti-breakage mats such as Mapei
Mapetex Sel allows you:
- to install on screed that is not fully cured, with shrinkage not filled in, cracks, unstable
screed, parquet, marble, ceramic or other existing, damaged substrates;
- create new fractioning joints, without adhering to the fractioning joints made in the
existing screed or floor to be covered, that will be welded with epoxy resin.
Treat the substrate as required to ensure adhesion prior to installation. Apply the mat using
cement glue. This should be the same glue used to install the slabs.New fractioning joint

LAMINAM INSTALLATIONApply Laminam slabs using a double coating of the adhesive in a full spread first on the back
of the slab and then on the substrate, taking care to fully cover the corners and edges and
avoiding air gaps between the foundation and the slab.
In order to facilitate the outflow of air, it is critical that the glue be spread in the same direction
both on the substrate and on the back of the slab. Always spread the glue in the direction parallel
to the shorter side when installing floors.
We recommend using highly deformable adhesive with classification
C2 S2 fast setting (MAPEI Ultralite S2 Quick) for start-up times of no
more than 48-72 hours.
INDOOR OUTDOOR
JOINTSGrout
For indoor applications, the width’s grout shall be evaluated depending on the dimensions of the
slab and of the area and on possible heating floors. For outdoor applications it depends on the
size, on thermal shocks and on the slab color.
Expansion Joint
During the application it is strictly necessary to respect all structural expansion joints in the
substrate. In case of much extended surfaces, create fractioning joints dividing the area as
shown in the image below.
Create perimeter joints by installing Laminam at approximately 5-7
mm from columns, walls, edges, corners and fixed structural elements.
Before grouting the joints it is recommended to respect
the time indicated by the adhesive manufacturer:
epoxy resin or cement based products can be used.
The latter ensure a better evenness and color fastness
in time.
Structural Joint
During installation, it is essential to respect all
structural joints of the building. Install in
correspondence of them suitable structural joint (the
size and type are to be evaluated on the basis of the
structural gap to be observed) through the use of
mechanical or chemical dowels.
Expansion Joint
We suggest to use metal joints (as Proflex of
Progress Profiles).

performance. The increase of permanent loads must be considered
during the design even if, normally, it’s really low compared to the
one of the entire floor.
Floor installation/Advantages
manual handling
Handle the slab with the aid of a second operator,
keeping it always perpendicular to the ground,
without bending and protecting corners against
accidental impacts.
Lay the slab gently on the long side, keeping it
slightly sloped and caring to arrange it on soft
material or suitably spaced wooden strips.
Overlap several slabs horizontally, making sure
the surfaces are clean and the supporting plane is
perfectly flat.
cuttingLaminam 3, 3+ and 5 slabs can be cut using
glass cutters, manual tile cutter, electric disk cutters and manual sanders.
To realize particular cut or forms, can be use water jet machines or tables commonly used by masons and glaziers.
The cut must also be carried out from the front towards the rear of the tile
With a glass cutter (e.g. Bohle Silberschnitt
2000) Etch the slab surface from the edge
outside to edge outside, without never
detaching the blade from the etching axis and
keeping it perpendicular to the surface. Do not
interrupt nor restart cutting and press steadily
and evenly.
Chop off the etched surface at the edges to
aid the cut fracturing.
For dimensions larger than 1000 mm
open the cut by shearing from both etched
edges
For cuts on the long side of Laminam slabs
1000x3000 mm, position the slab on a stable and
flat plane and fasten a standard aluminum rod on
the surface to be etched.
Cut and shear as described before.
Take the slab with open arms on the long side and,
starting from the already opened edges, slightly
press downwards till shearing completely.
For a correct finishing and to avoid sharp edges it is
important to use diamond sponges, or diamond
pads.

cleaning and maintenance /
Laminam slabs are easy to clean.
It is recommended, however, to take the following steps in order to obtain optimal results. It is important to preventively test
the cleaning product that will be used on a small piece of the slabs to make sure that it will not damage the surface.
Marks or stains found on the surfaces are usually the result of an incorrect and not thorough cleaning.
cleaning after installation /After having completed the material application and the joint filling the ceramic surface must
be cleaned to remove all possible contaminating agents (cement or grout residues, etc.). It
is basic to carry out this operation correctly as, if badly or non-carefully carried out, it could
result in halos jeopardizing the daily cleaning.
For a correct cleaning, always follow the specific indications by the manufacturers of grouts
and adhesives used in the application as for waiting times, products to be used and use
procedures. It is not recommended to clean after the application if the slab temperature is
high, preferring the fresher hours in the day.
Residue of concrete, slurry, lime and cementitious grouts can be removed using buffered
acid-based detergents, according to the times and methods indicated by their relevant
manufacturers. After cleaning with acid-based detergents thorough rinsing with clean water
is required. It is however vital to remove residues of cementitious grouts with additives
(resins, latexes,…) immediately. Avoid using abrasive substances or means.
It is essential to always use clean products and water and replace them frequently. Then,
clean more thoroughly with detergents recommended by the grout manufacturers, taking
care to eliminate all ring marks. To make cleaning more efficient you are advised to dry the
floor with absorbent paper towels to collect resin residues that, once the water has
evaporated, would be deposited once more, causing dull ring marks.
