Recommendations
Tree-basedbioenergysystems,rangingfromfirewoodandcharcoaltoliquidbiofuelsandpowergeneration:
• Offergreatopportunitiesforsustainablegreengrowthpathwayswherebiomassenergyisstillamajorcontributortoheatingandcooking
• Improveforestmanagementandforestandlandscaperestoration
• Requireashiftinperceptiontorehabilitatetheirnegativeimage
• Requireaholisticapproachthatconsidersthefullproductiontoend-usercycle(‘cookingsystem’approach)
• Requirescollaborationofrelevantstakeholderstoovercomeinvestmentbarriers
• Requirespoliticalcoordinationatsubnational,nationalandregionallevels
CriticalSuccessFactorsforSustainableBioenergy• SDGsprovidedirectionfortheglobaldevelopmentagendauntil2030
• Sustainableenergy,includingbioenergy,cancontributetotheachievementofSDG7(affordableandcleanenergy)andseveralotherSDGs
• GovernmentsneedtoensurethatsustainableenergypoliciesarealignedwiththeSDGsforbioenergytounfolditsfullpotential
• Inclusiveandeffectiveparticipatoryapproachesarekeytoachievingthegoal
• Therearepromisingpathwaysandtechnologiestodevelopbioenergy,whichdependonnationalandlocalcontextsthatneedtobetakenintoaccounttoidentifyoptimalbioenergysolutions
