Purpose of Academies
To provide an opportunity for those with performance potential to access quality
sports-specific coaching and support services to enable them to further develop
towards National Standards.
![Page 14: Developing potential at a local level: A New Way Forward SALSC Seminar 2005 Nick Rennie.](https://reader035.fdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022070411/56649c955503460f94952ac0/html5/thumbnails/14.jpg)
“The support services are the icing on the cake – they are sophisticated and make the final 5% difference. In some instances the cake hasn’t yet been properly baked. The athletes are only at 60% of their capacity.”
Area manager contract reviews, p.29
“There is a need to support athletes aspiring to AIS programmes without
compromising AIS focus”Area Institute of Sport Evaluation 2004,
p.25
![Page 15: Developing potential at a local level: A New Way Forward SALSC Seminar 2005 Nick Rennie.](https://reader035.fdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022070411/56649c955503460f94952ac0/html5/thumbnails/15.jpg)
RJG monitoring report:• Benefits to the players in terms of increased access to coaches within
a specific context• Funding not sustainable• No National consistency in terms of ages of application, criteria and
delivery mechanisms• Rarely full integration in the planning between LA/SGB/AIS in terms of
designing the RJG programme & application• Need for A managed programme for athletes to progress through or
be channeled back into sport (rather having acceptance of a high drop-out rate)
• Need for a system that has elements that are transferable between sports.
![Page 16: Developing potential at a local level: A New Way Forward SALSC Seminar 2005 Nick Rennie.](https://reader035.fdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022070411/56649c955503460f94952ac0/html5/thumbnails/16.jpg)
