ThemostcommonuniversalfamilysocialserviceisperhapstheFamilyCentremodel.Inmostcases,thesefamilycentresbringtogetherafullyco-locatedrangeofservicescentralinpromotingthewellbeingofboththechildrenandtheirparents.InSweden,thepioneerofthisformoffamilysupport,municipalfamilycentresofferingavarietyofservicestofamilieshavebeeninplacesincethe1970’s(Kekkonenetal,2012)

• Addressesissuesforchildrenwithtraumaexperiences.• Strategiesincludeeducationinemotions,pro-socialgames,
studentsaswellbeingagentsandparentinvolvement.• TheapproachusestheVygotskynotionofthesociallyformed
mindwhereinchildren’smindsareformedininteractionwiththosearoundthem.
• Workingwiththewholeschool,theapproachcreatesacultureenablingstudentstosucceedingroupactivities.
• Nowadoptedinover50primaryclassroomsinSouthAustralia
• Theapproachisbeingevaluatedinaschooloverathreeyearperiodofimplementation.Measuresincludeattendance,academicachievement,bullyingincidence,andparentsatisfaction.
• Everystudentwellbeingagentreportedtheyenjoyedtheexperienceandfoundtherolehelpedthemdevelopknowledgeandconfidenceasleadersintheirclassrooms.Theyidentifiedthatstudents’learningandmoodhadimprovedinclass,withlessbullyingbehaviourandmoreunderstandingofwaystosupporttheirownwellbeingandthatofothers.
• Teachingstafffeedbackwassimilarlypositive,identifyinguniversallyhighsatisfactionwiththeprocessofembeddingwellbeingstrategiesintotheirclassroompractice,workingalongsidestudentwellbeingagents.Dataon2018parentinvolvementshoweda70%increaseinthenumberoffamilieswithEnglishasanadditionallanguage(EALD)attendingfamilylearningeventscomparedto2017,anda50%increaseinthenumberofEALDfamiliesaccessingfamilysupportandhealthservices.
• In2018behaviourdataindicatedthatincidentsinvolvingbullyingandharassmentdecreasedby14%comparedto2017.
• ThenumberofstudentsreferredtothePrincipal’sofficeforproblembehaviourdecreasedby7%.
• InSeptember2018audit22studentsindicatedthattheyhadbeenbullieddownfrom43studentsin2016.
