DINNER HONORING FEDERAL JUDICIAL OFFICERS SCHEDULED FOR MAY 7th.

The Fourteenth Annual Dinner honoring the Eastern District's Judicial Officers will be held on Friday, May 7, 1993 at the beaut i fu 1 I nternat i ona 1 Center Ba 11 room in Greek town. The even­ing will begin with a cocktail reception at 5:30 p.m. with dinner to follow at 7:00 p.m.

Immediately following dinner, the group A (Habeas) Chorus Line will present "Les Miserab-Laws". This is an all new production by the same wonderful group of local legal talent which performed at the dinner last year.

Tickets will be sold by the table or individual tickets at $60.00 each. All proceeds from the dinner go to the Detroit Chapter's Foundation.

The FBA dinner affords a wonderful opportunity for members of the Bar to mingle and dine with members of the federal bench in a warm and relaxed setting. Your attendance at this year's dinner and support in making it a success are greatly appreciated.

One of the debaters will be Wayne state University Associate Law Professor Kingsley R. Browne who will argue that the current interpretation of Title VI I in hostile environment employment discrimination cases runs afoul of existing First Amendment doc­trine.

Professor Browne teaches employment discrimination law, employ­ment law and torts at Wayne state and has been a prolific legal writer including articles on the Civil Rights Act of 1991, sta­tistics in employment discrimination cases, comparable worth and preemption, as well as the topic of his presentation. He has also spoken before the ABA and ICLE among others, as well to the media in his areas of expertise. A clerk to Supreme Court Associate Justice Byron White in 1983-84, he was an associate and partner at San Francisco's Morrison & Focrster where he practiced labor and employment law from 1984 until 1989. He came to Wayne State in 1989.

The luncheon will also feature the presentation of the Leonard R Gilman Award to this year's recipient. The Award was established by the Detroit Chapter of the Federal Bar Association in 1985 in memory of Leonard R. Gilman who, at the time of his death on February 12, 1985, was the United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Michigan. The award is presented annually at a Chap­ter Luncheon to "an outstanding practitioner of criminal law" exemplifying the qualities that "Lenny" possessed.

The luncheon will be held in the Riverfront Ballroom at the Ren­aissance Center. Tickets for the luncheon, which begins with a reception at 11:30 A.M., can be obtained by returning the regis­tration form below or by calling Mark Brewer at 965-3464.
