AbouT uS The first decade of the 21st century saw many disruptive events across the globe. These, combined with accelerated technological developments, the rise of developing nations and a changing world order, make living with uncertainty a reality for business today. Since 2001, years of surviving in chaos has shaped ITMAX SYSTEM to not only lived through radical changes but also to deal proactively with the challenges of this uncertainty.

During its infancy stage, ITMAX floated aimlessly through the passage of time, carried along by the business currents, searching for opportunities and finding means to survive in a harsh business landscape. In a somewhat clichéd and yet ironic moment, ITMAX “stumbled” onto her calling in 2009.

In that year, ITMAX was awarded a significantly large-sized contract to maintain a set of traffic lights controller system in Putrajaya. Prior to this award, we have had past experiences of supplying, installing and maintaining such

systems – but never of such magnitude. Shortly within the same year, we were awarded another similar contract by the Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur (DBKL) or Kuala Lumpur City Hall.

The project taught ITMAX many lessons – but the most important lesson was that – Chaos brings uneasiness but it also allows for creativity and growth. Today, ITMAX SYSTEM is creating undeniably, the largest and smartest traffic system in Malaysia, and probably in the geographical region after she was awarded the

largest smart city related application project to date in Malaysia in 2018. Borrowing a business mantra made popular by author and business expert, Tom Peters, ITMAX SYSTEM “Thrived on Chaos”, and now confidently embraces uncertainties as a challenge for growth, improvement and advancement.

DATA DIGITALIZATION & ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

Tasked by Dewan bandaraya Kuala Lumpur (DbKL) or otherwise also known as KL City Hall, with reinventing the decade old traffic surveillance and monitoring centric Integrated Traffic Information System (ITIS), ITMAX has introduced the use of Data Digitalization and Artificial intelligence (AI) to create a Smart Traffic Management System.

Data collected from a city-wide network of more than 2,000 High Impact Video Technology cameras is transported through a network of fiber optics communication system to be processed and harvested using programmable Artificial Intelligence algorithms. This process is used to extract meaningful and purposeful data from any particular video input.

A large amount of data is collected every second and cross-checked, analyzed for accuracy and labeled for record before extrapolating the data set into another analysis process. Using Big Data Analysis, these sets of data is then co-related with data obtained from other cameras. In this process, the data sets are put through various pre-determined scenarios. Statistics are then obtained and calculated to produce an intelligible insight.

These insights are then presented in a visualized form where it is easy for layman to see and understand. Traffic Operators will then use these insights to perform the necessary tasks to elevate or address a particular traffic incident – from deploying enforcement personnel to informing the road users via the Variable Message System (VMS) board and public platforms; or authorizing a traffic lights signaling timing revision; or perform other traffic control operations.

With already terabytes of data - and in the very near future, growing into petabytes of data - collected and ploughing through the network in a day, the ITIS system is undeniably the largest smart city application in Malaysia and very likely in the region today.

TELECOMMUNICATIONS & NETWORK INFRASTRUCTURE

Since 2017, as an MCMC-licensed network Facility Provider and network Service Provider, ITMAX has been building a fiber optics communication network infrastructure. The network supports and connects public infrastructure like Traffic Lights, Street Lights, Electrical Feeder Pillars, CCTV Cameras, and other important street furniture.

Beginning in Kuala Lumpur, more than 200km of fiber has been laid with the approval and support of DBKL and Ministry of Communications and Multimedia (KKMM) – and still growing. Since then, ITMAX has also teamed up with mobile operators to support their expansion plans of mobile network coverage and trials of mobile 5G technology.

In Perak, as an approved Deployment Partner and Operator for telecommunication infrastructure for the state, ITMAX has also been acquiring sites and expanding telecommunication poles and towers across the state. Laying one of the key foundations to a smart state, ITMAX continues to identify gaps in between to fulfill her mission to bringing transformation to cities, towns and villages.

The advancements in communications technology has led to greater developments in Video technology. This, has subsequently, been the catalyst to the growth in harvesting data from video using complex extraction and digitalization conversion techniques. Video Analytics has transformed the industry and changed the landscape of the digital world. ITMAX today uses this technology together with Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence technologies to develop smart city applications like Smart Traffic, Smart Parking and for Safe City Solutions. Some of the capabilities are explained below:Automatic Number Plate RecognitionITMAX has used AI features like Automatic number Plate recognition to capture and identify traffic offenders to enforce a traffic violation as part of her advanced capabilities offerings to DBKL in the ITIS Smart Traffic Project. We are also able to use this similar technology to apply for Parking systems like in our Smart Parking System project with KPJ Specialist Hospital in Kluang, Johor.

Automatic Traffic Incident Detection SystemThis is a feature heavily used in the DBKL ITIS project as we use video analytics and AI to detect and collect data related to incidences that may or has disrupted traffic in the city.Augmented Reality Picture in ViewMapping and stitching camera icons and views allow for a holistic visualization of the CCTV views and allows for proper command and control planning for DBKL. This exciting technology has transform city-wide management for Security Monitoring, Traffic Flow Management and People Flow Management.People Counting & Facial RecognitionUsing these features, public housing authorities in Projek Perumahan rakyat (PPr) and Perumahan Awam (PA) in Kuala Lumpur are able to monitor people movement and have the system automatically generate alarm notification in the event of potential incidences as a result of mass gathering of people. It is also used to identify and capture repeated vandalism offenders.

advanced capabiliTies FOr EXCITInG POSSIBILITIESVIDEO SURVEILLANCE & ANALYTICS

ITMAX was awarded a contract in 2016 to upgrade and maintain 45,000 streetlight lamp post in Kuala Lumpur from HPS lanterns to energy efficient LED. In the interest of public accountability for the use of public funds, a Green-Conscious decision was made to design a retro-fitting of the LED lights onto existing poles in order to re-use existing poles to save cost on further civil and extended electrical work. This has helped the authorities to save millions of ringgit of public funds in addition to energy cost saving. This has led Kuala Lumpur to become the first city in Malaysia to use LED for her streetlights, city-wide, improving the carbon index of the city with the use of cleaner and environmental-friendly LED lights. In 2018, ITMAX proposed to the City Council, DBKL, to fit each of the 45,000 street light poles with smart sensors to collect data and monitor the streetlights centrally. Today, DBKL is able to monitor and control all their streetlights from their operations control center. Officers and technicians are also able to monitor and receive notifications from their android-based mobile devices. Data like LED component health, voltage reading, wattage levels, temperature and electricity usage can be monitored LIVE and statistical reports can be generated to measure efficiency of each streetlight.
