  • Tramp metal can stop your operation andthe damage it can cause to equipment canbe expensive. That's why conscientiousoperators and owners consider trampmetal detectors to be an essential part oftheir operation. The Thermo RamseyOretronic III Tramp Metal Detector providesan economical and reliable means to pro-tect expensive crushers, conveyors andother process equipment from damage bytramp metal.

The Oretronic III is designed especially forbelt conveyors moving coal, iron pellets, minerals, aggregates and other bulk mate-rials. It can detect all types of metallicscrap including: bucket teeth, manganesesteel mantles, bore crowns, bar scrapchains, tools, etc. It can even detect trampmetal when buried in wet conductive materials. And, because it is insensitive tomaterials with high magnetic permeabilityand electrical conductivity, the Oretronic IIIcan be used in applications where conven-tional metal detectors produce an unac-ceptable false alarm rate.

Thermo Ramseys New Oretronic III Tramp Metal Detector ...

Because theres nothing cheap about tramp metal. The Oretronic III TMD has a microprocessor-based control unit that automates systemsetup and calibration. The operator interfaceprovides easy-to-read indicators and has atouch panel keypad designed to simplifysetup and system maintenance.

It also features password protection forsecurity, RS-485 serial communications andvariable frequency to eliminate interferencefrom other electrical equipment.

So if you're an owner, plant manager orengineer, remember the Thermo RamseyOretronic III Tramp Metal Detector. It pro-tects against turning your profit into scrap.

    Features and Benefits

Microprocessor-Based - No adjustmentsinside the enclosure. All functions accessedby the front panel.

Variable Frequency - Allows you to setthe operating frequency. Interference andfalse trips from motors, radios and otherdevices are eliminated.

Quick Balance - Allows you to electroni-cally balance the coil with the push of a key.

Single Coil (Optional) - A single coil assem-bly with both generator and receiver coils ina single, under-the-belt coil assembly elimi-nates damage from high burden depths andinterference from overhead metal objects.

  • 9. SCROLL When pressed, scrollsthrough various calibration and set-upfunctions.

    10. VALUE When pressed, changes displayed calibration function value whenin the calibrate mode.

    11. ENTER When pressed, allows entryof calibration and setup constants.

    Installation

The coils are mounted to a rugged supportmade of nonconductive materials. The fieldgenerator coil is swing-mounted to protectthe coil and support from being struck from oversized material. The coils aremade of impact-resistant polyvinyl chlorideand designed to withstand stresses up to10 times gravity. The generator coil anddual woundreceiver coilsare mounted on the support.A dual receivercoil is employed to counteract interferencesfrom sourcessuch as electricmotors, light-ning and radiotransmitters.

conveyor (e.g. a shovel tooth and anadapter). In the calibrate mode, this dis-play indicates calibration function codes.

    6. TOTAL COUNT Indicates the runningtotal of detected tramp (total trips). Total isnot resettable. In calibration mode, the dis-play indicates calibration function value.

    7. LEVEL Bar graph display indicatesthe relative signal level.

    Keypad

    8. RESET When pressed, resets analarm by de-energizing alarm output andresetting coast count display.

Thermo Ramseys Oretronic III TrampMetal Detector is designed for ease ofoperation and calibration. In addition tothe easy-to-read displays, all operationsof the detector are accessible on the frontpanel via switches.

    Lamp Indicators

    1. ALARM Red lamp on indicatesthat tramp has been detected and thatthe alarm output is activated.

    2. BYPASS Amber lamp on indicatesthat the detector has been manually by-passed. The detector operates normallyexcept Alarm and Time Delay outputs aredeactivated.

    3. NORMAL Green lamp on indicatesnormal detector operation.

NOTE: Special bezels on the doorenhance the colored indicator lights forhigh visibility at a distance and whenviewing from the side.

    4. CALIBRATE - Indicates that the con-troller is in the calibrate mode.

    L.E.D. Displays

    5. COAST COUNT In the run mode, indicates the number of pieces of trampdetected since last reset. This featurealerts the operator that several pieces oftramp must be located before restarting

Remote front panel can belocated up to 4,000 feet awayfrom the TMD.

New Coil Frame - Coils are mounted on afiberglass support structure and made ofimpact resistant PVC. The entire supportstructure and coils are impervious to moisture.

Offset Swing Arm - Provides coil protec-tion and reduces likelihood of coil break-age from high burden.

Simple Installation - Can be installedwithout cutting the belt and without specialtools or instruments.

Serial Communications - RS-485 is avail-able as standard to communicate with aremote PLC or remote front panel.

Password Protection - Prevents unwant-ed access by entering your personal PIN.

Distance Indication (optional) - With aspeed sensor, the front panel display willshow the distance from the coil to thetramp metal in tenths of feet.

    MENU STRUCTURE

The operator interface is based on a menu structure thatguides you through TMD setup and calibration. The menustructure has five "high-level" menus, shown in the eight-character alphanumeric display, that indicate the operatingmode and status of the TMD.

Within the setup and calibrate high-level menus are the indi-vidual parameters and settings that define how your TMD isto operate. The following shows the TMD menu tree.

Microprocessor-based control unit Receiver Coil Generator Coil Support Frame

    Optional Equipment

Belt Clip Detector - The sensitivity of the Oretronic IIIis momentarily reduced while metallic splices or chipspass through the head.

High Pile Detector - A switch activates the alarm orshuts down the conveyor when the transmitter coilswings away as a result of impact by material.

Beacon and Horn - Alarms when metal is detected.

Tramp Metal Markers - A liquid or flag drop markercan be used to identify location of tramp metal in theburden.

Remote Display - All operating functions can be performed from a remote display identical to the one on the control unit.

Speed Sensor - Can be added for optional perform-ance on variable speed belts. Also provides accuratebelt coast determination.
