Early childhood experiences causes structural changes in the brain Many individuals in the United States of America do not celebrate the first day of Spring (or the Spring Equinox). It’s just another day to us, and we also lose one hour of sleep in March. So why celebrate right? Well, in other countries the first day of spring is actually celebrated in various ways. In many Middle Eastern (also known as West Asian) countries, the first day of Spring is celebrated as Mother’s Day. In Japan, the Spring Equinox (also known as Shunbun no Hi) is celebrated for one week (seven days). On the day of Shunbun no Hi, Japanese families clean and leave flowers on the graves of their deceased ancestors and also visit their relatives. However, there is also a festival known as the Cherry Blossom Festival in Hanami-Japan. During this festival, many Japanese families picnic under the trees or have parties. Similarly, one reason that America has Cherry Blossom trees is because Japan gave America Cherry Blossom trees as a gift. Centers Activity Art Center Have children make their own spring flower hat, or create their version of a Spring cherry blossom tree. Dramatic Play Transform the “kitchen” area into a market place and have the children in the Block area purchase items and food from this Market place. Block Have children build their own picnic and have the children purchase items and food from the children in the Dramatic Play area. Music & Movement Create musical instruments from recycled items and have various seeds inside of it and use it as a shaker.
