Before GettingStarted...

This section provides an overview of yourwatch and explains how to connect with aphone. You can configure watch settings toconnect with a phone at preset times each dayand adjust its time settings in accordance withinformation obtained from a network timeserver. You can also change the watch’s timesettings manually and configure other watchsettings from the phone.

Important!

● This watch is not a special-purposemeasuring instrument. Measurementfunction readings are intended forgeneral reference only.

● The watch’s Altimeter Mode calculatesand displays relative altitude based onbarometric pressure readingsproduced by its pressure sensor.Because of this, altitude valuesdisplayed by the watch may bedifferent from your actual elevationand/or sea level elevation indicated forthe area where you are located.Regular calibration in accordance withthe local altitude (elevation)indications is recommended.l Altitude Measurement

● Whenever using the Digital Compassof this watch for serious trekking,mountain climbing, or other activities,be sure always to take along anothercompass to confirm readings. If thereadings produced by the DigitalCompass of this watch are differentfrom those of the other compass,perform 3-point calibration of theDigital Compass to ensure betteraccuracy.ー Compass readings and calibration

will not be possible if the watch is inthe vicinity of a permanent magnet(magnetic accessory, etc.), metalobjects, high-voltage wires, aerialwires, or electrical householdappliances (TV, computer,cellphone, etc.)

l Digital Compass● Some of the functions of this watch

cannot be used unless it is connectedwith a phone. You should also leavethe phone’s location informationsetting turned on. Otherwise, thephone will not be able to acquirelatitude and longitude information,which may cause the watch to displayincorrect information.

● The GPS navigation log dataacquisition operation can causedeviation of the measurement intervalsof other modes.

● When the indicator shown belowappears on the display while you areperforming an operation, it means youcan perform the procedure below toexit the operation.

Charging the Watch

Solar ChargingPower generated by the solar panel powerswatch operations and also is used to charge arechargeable (secondary) battery. The solarpanel is integrated into the LCD of the watch,and power for charging is generatedwhenever the face is exposed to light.

● Charging the WatchWhen you are not wearing the watch, put it ina location where it is exposed to bright light.

While you are wearing the watch, make surethat its LCD (solar panel) is not blocked fromthe light by the sleeve of your clothing. Powergeneration efficiency is reduced even whenthe LCD is blocked only partially.

● Depending on light intensity and localconditions, the watch may become hotto the touch when exposed to light forcharging. Take care to avoid burninjury after charging. Also, avoidcharging the watch under high-temperature conditions like the onesdescribed below.ー On the dashboard of a vehicle

Charging with the ChargerCharging with the charger is faster than solarcharging.

Important!

● Use only the supplied charger andUSB cable for charging.

● A device with a USB port (Type-A) canalso be used for charging.

● Note that no guarantees are madeconcerning the suitability of all types ofUSB ports for charging. If charging isnot possible for some reason,disconnection from the USB port isrecommended.

● Place the charger on a desk or otherstable surface, making sure there isplenty of open space around it.Charging with the charger and watch ina bag or some other enclosed spacecan cause overheating of the watchand/or charger.

● Should water or any other liquid getonto the watch or charger duringcharging, immediately disconnect theUSB cable from the power source.

● The charger unit is not waterproof.Avoid use in areas where moisture orhigh humidity is present.

● Perform charging in an environmentwhere ambient temperature isbetween 5°C and 35°C (41°F and95°F).

When preparing for charging, be sure toconnect the devices in the sequence indicatedby the numbers in the illustration above.

1. Position the watch so its right (rotaryswitch) side is aligned with the small clawof the charger.

● Make sure that the claws of the chargersecurely grasp the watch, and that thewatch is in close contact with thecharger.

● Charging may fail if there is spacebetween the charger and watch. Also,foreign matter can get into the spaceand cause overheating of the watchand/or charger.

3. Turn on your computer or other devicewith a USB port (power source), andconnect the USB cable to it.

4. Connect the other end of the USB cable tothe charger.Press down on the watch and chargerwhen connecting the USB cable to theUSB port to ensure that they do notseparate from each other.● This starts charging and causes to

appear on the watch display.● disappears from the display when a

full charge is achieved.

● Precautions When Charging● GPS signals (for time adjustment, log

acquisition, point memory, etc.) are notreceived while charging with the charger isin progress.

● The watch’s GPS function will not be able tobe used for about one minute after youremove it from the charger. During thatperiod the watch also will not be able todetect whether it is connected to ordisconnected from the charger.

● Do not attempt charging at high ambienttemperatures of 35°C or greater. The watchbecomes hot during charging, which willcause charging to stop. High ambienttemperature may result in a less than fullcharge.

● Do not carry the charger in a bag orotherwise subject it to squeezing orcrushing forces. Doing so can causedeformation of the claws so they becomeopen too far, making it impossible to attachthe watch to the charger.

● If an ongoing charging operation stops,remove the watch from the charger anddisconnect the USB cable. After checkingfor and eliminating problems, try chargingagain.

● It may take some time for charging to startafter the watch is attached to the charger.

● The watch and charger may become warmduring charging. This is normal and doesnot indicate malfunction.

Note

● It takes about five hours for charging tostart after the watch’s display goesblank.

● Charging time depends on ambienttemperature and other factors.

Charging Time GuidelinesCharging each day for the approximate timesshown below should be enough to maintain acharge of or higher.At a charge of , all watch functions aresupported, except for GPS.l Checking the Charge Level

● Charging is performed even withexposure to indoor fluorescent lighting(500 lux). The watch will be able tomaintain a charge of or higher if it isexposed to indoor fluorescent lightingfor eight hours a day, in addition to lightnear a window on a sunny day (10,000lux) for two hours a week.

Checking the Charge LevelYou can determine the watch’s current chargelevel in any mode.

Important!

● Charge the watch as soon as possibleafter the battery indicator becomes or lower. Leaving the watch withoutcharging for a number of months willresult in over-discharge, and maymake future charging impossible. Ifthis happens, contact your originalretailer.

Power Saving FunctionLeaving the watch in a dark location in theTimekeeping Mode for 70 minutes or longerbetween the hours of 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. willcause the watch to enter Level 1 powersaving. If the watch is left in this condition forsix or seven days, the watch will enter Level 2power saving. Pairing the Watch with aPhone

To connect the watch with a phone, first installthe CASIO “G-SHOCK Connected” app on thephone and then use Bluetooth to pair thewatch with the phone.

Using the Watch in a MedicalFacility or Aircraft

When you are in a hospital, on an aircraft, orin any other location where radio signals maycause problems, you can perform theprocedure below to enter the watch’s AirplaneMode, which disables auto GPS signalreceive and connection with a phone. To re-enable auto time adjustment, perform thesame operation again.

1. Enter the Timekeeping Mode.l Navigating Between Modes

2. Press (A).This displays the Timekeeping Modesetting screen.

3. Rotate the rotary switch to move thepointer to [AIRPLANE MODE].

4. Press the rotary switch.5. Rotate the rotary switch to select the

Airplane Mode setting.[ON]: Airplane Mode enabled[OFF]: Airplane Mode disabled.

6. Press the rotary switch to exit the settingscreen.This returns to the Timekeeping Modesetting screen.

7. Press (C) to exit the setting screen.● is displayed while the watch is in the

Connecting the Watch with aPhone

Connecting with a PhoneThis section explains how to establish aBluetooth connection with a phone that ispaired with the watch.● If the watch is not paired with the phone you

want to connect with, perform the procedureunder “C Pair the watch with a phone.” topair them.

1. Move the phone close to (within one meterof) the watch.

display appears when a connection isestablished with the phone.

● [CONNECT FAILED] will appear ifconnection fails for some reason.

● If you have problems establishing aconnection, it could mean that G-SHOCK Connected is not running onthe phone. On the phone’s homescreen, tap the “G-SHOCKConnected” icon. After the app startsup, enter the Communication Mode onthe watch.

Note

● The connection will be terminated ifyou do not perform any operation onthe watch or phone for a fixed amountof time.To specify the connection limit time,perform the following operation with G-SHOCK Connected: “Watch settings”n “Connection time”. Next, select asetting of 3 minutes, 5 minutes, or 10minutes.

Disconnecting from a PhonePressing any button will terminate a Bluetoothconnection and return to the TimekeepingMode.

Configuring Watch SettingsAfter establishing a connection between thewatch and a phone, you can use G-SHOCKConnected to configure watch settings and toview information acquired by the watch.

Phone FinderYou can use phone finder to trigger a tone onthe phone to make it easy to find. The tone isforced to sound even if the phone is in vibratemode.

● Do not use this function in areas wherephone call tones are restricted.

● The tone sounds at a high volume. Donot use this function when listening tophone output over earphones.

GPS Time Adjustment

OverviewThe watch’s time and day settings can beconfigured in accordance with your currenttime zone by receiving a GPS signal.● GPS signal location information: Used to

update time zone, time, and day settings.● GPS signal time information: Used to

update time and day settings.

Important!

● Before trying to receive GPS signaltime information, first use GPS toacquire location information andconfigure the time zone setting.

● The watch will normally not performauto GPS signal receive while it ispaired with a phone. However, autoGPS signal receive will be performed ifthere is no connection between thewatch and phone for more than oneday.

Appropriate Signal ReceptionLocation

GPS signal reception is possible outdoorswhere the sky is visible and not blocked bybuildings, trees, or other objects.

Note

● In areas where reception is poor, keepthe watch LCD pointed upwards anddo not move the watch.

● When the watch is set up for autoreceive, take care to avoid covering itsLCD with the sleeve of your clothing.

● GPS signal reception is not possible inthe areas described below.ー Where the sky is not visibleー Indoors (Reception may be possible

near a window.)ー Near wireless communication

equipment or other devices thatgenerate magnetism.

Acquiring GPS Position InformationManually

You can use a button operation to acquireGPS location information and adjust your timezone, time, and day settings in accordancewith your current location.

● GPS signal reception requires largeamounts of power. Perform it onlywhen necessary.

1. Move to a location appropriate for signalreception and point the LCD of the watchstraight up at the sky.

2. Press (D).

3. Rotate the rotary switch to move thepointer to [TIME&POSITION].

4. Press the rotary switch.This starts location informationacquisition.● The acquired information will appear on

the watch display when locationacquisition is successful.

5. Press (C) to exit the setting screen.

Note

● Receive normally takes anywherefrom about 40 to 80 seconds.

● It can take as long as 13 minutes whenleap second information is included.

● You may experience locationinformation acquisition problems whenyou are in the vicinity of a cityborderline.The watch’s time and day will not beindicated correctly if the time zonesetting is not right for your location. Ifthis happens, move to a location nearthe center of the city you want to set asyour Home City and acquire locationinformation again. You can use a button operation on the watchto receive GPS signal time information. Whenthe receive operation is successful, thewatch’s Home City (time zone), day, and timesettings will be adjusted accordingly.

Note

● GPS signal reception requires largeamounts of power. Perform it onlywhen necessary.

1. Move to a location appropriate for signalreception and point the LCD of the watchstraight up at the sky.

2. Hold down (D) for about 1.5 seconds.This starts time information acquisition.

● The acquired information will appear onthe watch display when time acquisitionis successful.

● [RECEIVING FAILED] will appear ifacquisition fails for some reason.

● You can also trigger a time informationreceive operation manually byperforming the steps below.A Press (D).B Rotate the rotary switch to move thepointer to [TIME (GPS)].C Press the rotary switch.

● Receive normally takes anywherefrom about 10 to 65 seconds.

● It can take as long as 13 minutes whenleap second information is included.

Receiving Time InformationAutomatically

When the conditions below are satisfied, thewatch will automatically receive timeinformation from a GPS signal. If any timeinformation receive operation is successful,the watch will no longer attempt to receive asignal for the rest of the day.● In the Timekeeping Mode● Current time is between 6:00 a.m. and

10:00 p.m.● Light (near a window on a clear day)

continually shining on the LCD of the watchfor about one to two minutes.

Note

● The time information receive operationnormally takes anywhere from about10 to 65 seconds.

● The receive operation can take as longas 13 minutes when leap secondinformation is included.

Leap Second ReceptionGPS signal reception each year on June 1 orlater and on December 1 or later also receivesleap second information.

Note

● It can take as long as 13 minutes tocomplete the leap second informationreceive operation.

● The leap second information receiveoperation is repeated until informationreceipt is complete.

● Once the leap second informationreceive operation is complete, thewatch will not make any attempt toreceive it again until the following June1 or December 1.

● When connecting with a phone toadjust the watch date and timesettings, leap seconds will also bereceived along with the timeinformation. If this happens, leapseconds may not be received whenreceiving a GPS signal.

Signal Reception Precautions● When the watch is unable to adjust its time

in accordance with a GPS signal for somereason, average timekeeping accuracy iswithin ±15 seconds per month.

● Note that an internal decoding process thewatch performs after it receives a GPSsignal may cause the time setting to beslightly off (by less than one second).

Connecting with a Phone toAdjust the Watch’s Time

You can configure watch settings to connectwith a phone at preset times each day andadjust its time settings in accordance withinformation obtained from an online timeserver.

● Using Auto AdjustYour watch adjusts its time setting four timesa day according to a preset schedule. Itperforms the adjustment operationautomatically as you go about your daily life,without any operation required by you.

● Aligning a Map with ActualSurroundings (Setting a Map)

Setting a map means to align the map so thedirections indicated on it are aligned with theactual directions of your location. Once youset a map, you can more easily get a grasp ofthe relationship between map markings andactual geographic contours. To set a map withthis watch, align north on the map with thenorth indication of the watch. Once you set themap, you can compare your bearing on themap with your surroundings, which will helpyou determine your current location anddestination.● Note that map reading skills and experience

Calibrating CompassReadings

Perform calibration whenever you notice thewatch’s compass readings are different fromthose of another compass, or before settingout on a climb or trek.● Note that accurate compass readings

Also note that the valuedisplayed by the watch may bedifferent from the actual elevation and/or sea level elevation indicated for thearea where you are located. ● When using navigation while receivingGPS signals, measured altimetervalues are automatically adjusted inaccordance with GPS signal data.Note, however, that this may result insome difference between themeasured value and the actualaltitude. Barometric Pressure ChangeIndicator

Each time (A) is held down for about onesecond, the barometric pressure changeindicator will toggle between enabled anddisabled. While the barometric pressurechange indicator is enabled, the watch willbeep to alert you whenever it detects asignificant change in air pressure readings(due to sudden altitude change, or to thepassage of a high or low pressure area).● While the barometric pressure change

indicator is enabled, the [BARO] indicator isdisplayed along with one of the indicatorsbelow.

Display IlluminationYou can illuminate the display by pressing abutton. The watch also has an auto lightfunction that automatically illuminates thedisplay whenever the watch is angled towardsyour face for reading.

● Illumination will turn off automatically ifan alarm starts to sound.

● Illumination is disabled during a GPSsignal receive operation for timeadjustment. Display illumination is alsodisabled while measurement by asensor is in progress.

Changing Displayed InformationYou can configure watch settings to have thecurrent time in the Timekeeping Modedisplayed along with one other type ofinformation.BASIC: Current Time Only (Basic Screen)

TIME+NAVIGATION: Current Time +Navigation

TIME+BAROMETER: Current Time +Barometric PressureWhile this screen is selected, entering theTimekeeping Mode will cause the currentbarometric pressure value and a graph of thelast 12 hours of barometric pressure readingsto be shown at the top of the display for onehour. After one hour, only a graph of the last48 hours of barometric pressure readings(without the current value) will be shown.

Switching between 12-hour and 24-hour Timekeeping

You can specify either 12-hour format or 24-hour format for the time display.

Charging with the Charger

Q1 The watch won’t charge with thecharger.

Is the watch securely attached to thecharger?

Did you leave the watch attached to thecharger after charging was complete?

Charging stops automatically after thewatch becomes fully charged. If you wantto charge again, remove the watch fromand then re-attach it to the charger.

Is charging still impossible after checkingthe above points?

Check to make sure that the USB deviceor power source is functioning normally.

Q2 Charging stops before it is complete.Charging may stop if some temporaryabnormality occurs. Q1 When does the watch adjust is time?The watch will connect with the phone andperform auto time adjustment at around 12:30a.m., 6:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Theconnection is automatically terminated afterauto time adjustment is complete. Also, GPSsignal auto receive will be performed if therehas been no auto time adjustment based onconnection between the watch and phone formore than one day.

Altitude Measurement

Q1 Readings produce different results atthe same location.Watch readings are different fromaltitude information available fromother sources.Correct altitude readings are notpossible.

Relative altitude is calculated based onchanges in barometric pressure measured bythe watch’s pressure sensor. This means thatbarometric pressure changes can causereadings taken at the same location to bedifferent. Also note that the value displayed bythe watch may be different from the actualelevation and/or sea level elevation indicatedfor the area where you are located. Whenusing the watch’s altimeter while mountainclimbing, it is recommended that you regularlycalibrate its readings in accordance with localaltitude (elevation) indications.l Calibrating Altitude Readings
