Not only does this allow for greater reach, but in doing so allows for offloading of the ischial tuberosities while preventing submarining. Positioning a belt at 45º tends to occur because this is associated with commonly experienced restraint belts in cars and aircraft. This position can indeed lead to injury. The user can slip back into posterior tilt. Submarining is possible with risk of choking and damage to the abdomen. Fastening a belt around the belly as shown in the above image is not appropriate. If a belt is fastened around the belly it digs into soft tissues causing discomfort and pressure on the stomach. It also allows for submarining and posterior tilt, and can lead to injury.
