BOOK JACKETThe Catcher in the RyeDesign for cover of a classic novel done in InDesign. The background image on the front cover is an original, hand-drawn watercolor illustration, combined with vintage inspired type and layout. Drop caps also lend a classic touch to a timeless coming of age story.

Email NewsletterAmerican Heart Association

A fun, information packed e-newsletter for the American Heart Association. Features tiny artwork graphics for the fatty food infographic. Playing with colors and shapes keeps this update looking fresh and engaging. One design from a two-part team project where my teammate and I also designed a print newsletter for AHA’s Winter 2019 issue, all in InDesign.

Newsletter for PrintAmerican Heart Association

The second part to a team design project of AHA’s print newsletter and email newsletter. Guidelines limited us to two colors, red and black (as well as grayscale photographs). Maintaining a simple design for the purpose of a newsletter is very limiting, and for us, our creativity depended on small elements that have a big impact, like the heartbeat graphic found at the bottom of pages two through four.

Package Design with Die CutAn Off-Brand Tea Box Redesign

Redesigning an off-brand tea box leaves a lot of room for interpretation. I took surplus creative control to completely change this label’s look, but maintained the die cut shape. I added an original, hand-drawn watercolor illustration as the background, and used Illustrator to build ornamental graphics to place all over the box. Using Futura for the type contributes to the mix of vintage, and modern appeal. Muted and neutral colors displace this design to a bygone era of atriums, boutiques, and invention.

App IconsProperty of Rofori Corporation

Icons built for Rofori Corporation’s app program, that allows companies to search vendors and their cybersecurity scores for compatability. They represent the mission of the cybersecurity company in a modern and easily updatable way. The logo on the right was inspired by coats of arms, with a simplified quadrant design and images that are quickly translated to the target audience.

Magazine SpreadEmulating Cook’s Illustrated

Food is colorful, tasty, and wonderful to design a spread around. This spread is based on the food magazine, Cook’s Illustrated. I drew all of the art included by hand and used watercolor to color them. This spread is information heavy and required application of typography skills to separate the text and allow it to flow nicely from one page to another. Creative headlines draw the reader in, a little bit of history is given, and then the recipe is on the last page.

Digital IllustrationGuinness World Record: Longest Hair

An illustration of Xie Qiuping, who holds the world record for longest hair. Built in Illustrator, I wanted to make this illustration very femme and modern, focusing on shapes, colors, and hues. Her hair had to be the focus of attention, and to help make it stand out I decided on a marbled foreground. I built the marbled area in Photoshop and then brought it into Illustrator where I warped it with her hair even more. The water lily in the background completes the imaginary space.

Lexicon Book“N” is for noble

Drawn in Illustrator, this lexicon book spread is also a self portrait. Using the pen tool, swatches, and blur effect, I strove for a balance between 2D and 3D representation. The geometric graphics, on the right, allude to the description of the word chosen.
