Department of Children and Family Services Boston Public Health Commission Department of Mental Health Mental Health Partners WEEKLY MONTHLY QUARTERLY TIER 3 TIER 2 TIER 1 INTENSITY AND PROVIDER EXPERTISE SCREENING PROGRESS MONITORING Behavioral Health Services Specialized Services • Individual Counseling • Case Management • Crisis Response • Solution-Focused Groups • Consultation • Evidence-Based Interventions • Universal Positive Behavioral Supports • Universal Behavioral Health Screening • Professional Development Foundational Practices of Mental Health Service Directory • Data-Based Decision Making • Research-Based Interventions • Consultation and Collaboration • Inclusive Practices According to Principal Feedback, the Comprehensive Behavioral Health Model is: • “The infrastructure for the social emotional side of a child’s development that will focus on meeting the needs of all children within the school setting. Children need to be healthy to become wise.” • “An approach to provide a safe school environment and enhance the social emotional growth of our children in the Boston Public Schools.” The Comprehensive Behavioral Health Model (CBHM) has launched in Boston Public Schools! It is a framework developed by school psychologists, pupil adjustment counselors, and behavioral specialists. Multi-year implementation of CBHM began in school year 2012–13 in 10 schools across BPS. 12 additional schools have started the model in school year 2013–14. 2012 –13 HIGHLIGHTS At the District Level — Provided professional development training and coordinated services for all community mental health providers working with or in BPS schools and CBHM-specific training for providers working with CBHM schools. Conducted 3 trainings for principals of Cohort I schools. Coordinated partnership with university training programs, resulting in an addition of more than 10,000 hours of behavioral health services. At the School Level — Provided more than 30 professional development trainings for teachers and staff on CBHM components, including: school-wide Tier I interventions, classroom-based Tier II interventions, and analysis and use of the behavioral health screening data. At the Student Level — Increased behavioral health services based on needs identified through screenings.
