Welcome!Thank you for your interest in our competition!
The STEM ambassadors from our ISD team (Information Systems Division – or IT) are really excited to be able to work with you on this project, and we hope that it will offer lots of opportunities for developing interest in STEM subjects at your school.
The focus of our competition is the Internet of Everything!
This document forms the competition brief and all the information you need if you decide your school would like to take part.

About AsdaAsda is the UK’s second largest supermarket chain with over 500 stores across the country – serving around 18 million customers a week.
We began life as Queens supermarkets, started by brothers Peter and Fred Asquith, with the first supermarket opening in Pontefract in 1958. In 1965, Associated Dairies and Asquith’s merged to create Asda Stores Ltd – the Asquith and Dairies creating the new Asda name.
We then expanded rapidly across the UK, becoming famous for “saving you money everyday”. After a period of turnaround in the early 1990s, Asda became part of the Walmart family in 1999. Since then, Asda has gone from strength to strength, building on the time tested values of low prices and excellent customer service. Asda now serves customers in all corners of the UK.
Asda is now firmly established as the UK’s fastest growing supermarket chain, with a format to suit all locations. Over the last decade, a lot of this growth has been through the .com market, offering grocery, general merchandise, clothing and other services on the web, with both delivery and ‘click & collect’. Mobile is the latest offering for our customers.
What’s It All About?

What is The Internet of Everything?
Internet of Everything (IoE) allows more devices, systems, and services to connect. Its all about connecting people through objects to their everyday lives. Helping them communicate with things/ objects to help them do the everyday things on the move and more efficiently using smart objects e.g. a fridge that makes you a shopping list.
Some examples include heart monitoring implants, automobiles with built-in sensors to help locate parking or detect traffic, field operation devices that assist fire-fighters in search and rescue, smart thermostat systems and washer/dryers that utilize Wi-Fi for remote monitoring, etc.

Customer Profiles - Mum
Description • Is younger than average• Is not very affluent• With larger families, especially young families• Increasingly using online methods to do shopping
Lifestyle • Spends more time caring for the kids than dad• Dinner is a busy time• Technology makes things easier for social life and
running errands
Pressure • Money – has a strict budget• Time – has very little time to self• Guilt – over work and caring for children
Shopping Drivers • Low prices and convenience• Shopping for immediate needs such as dinner

Customer Profiles – Empty Nester
Description • Over 55s• Feel on average ten years younger than actual age• Includes most affluent and those facing real poverty• Diverse community with differing needs
Lifestyle • Spending freely but three quarters careful with their money• Health-conscious• Care for their children and/ or grandchildren
Pressure • Big/ busy stores – visit before midday and avoid weekends • Saving money is earning money – some in poverty so go
without and some financially support children/ grandchildren
Shopping Drivers • Low prices – looking for promotions and compare prices• Convenience• Good service
Customer Profiles – Young shopper Description • Students and young professionals
• Often influenced by parents shopping habits• Looking for something new and different• Still learning how to be a savvy shopper
Lifestyle • Technology savvy • More time for themselves than other demographics• Use of social media to keep up to date with trends
and ideas and keep in contact with the world• Social life important
Pressure • Money – tough job market, tough housing market, rising cost of rent
Shopping Drivers • Inspiration and ideas• Convenience• Looking for new and different experiences
Entry submission requirements
Your entry should include the following:1. Completed Submission Form. This will be shared upon registration

Video – Content: Create an advert style video to sell the idea you have created– Format:

Available materials• STEM Ambassadors will support you throughout the competition• Once you have registered, we will share the submission form, Asda logo, examples of
submission examples and brand guidelines with you
Reminders• Remember to follow style format• Don’t forget the submission date• The competition is open to students in Years 7, 8 and 9 only• One submission per school with a minimum 3 and maximum 8 students per submission
