HAUFE ceiling systems
HAUFE ceiling systems can be easily adapted to architectural
requirements – as can be seen here at the University of Düsseldorf
by kadawittfeldarchitektur.
The thought-out HAUFE system
Whether light, acoustics, heating, cooling, or fire protection:
HAUFE ceiling systems integrate all essential in-house require-
ments. In addition, they allow the architect almost unlimited
creative freedom without dominating the ceiling’s visual
design through technical installations.
With our ceiling systems, the upper end of an interior space
becomes an expressive part of the architecture. As an owner-
managed medium-sized company, we are always close to your
project. For we believe: the architectural design does not have
to be subordinated to the possibilities of a component. We
rather adapt our components to the architectural needs –
and still provide the security of an industrial production, the
reliability of a mature system concept, and the flexibility of an
industrial manufacture.

Our experience
Since 1968, HAUFE ceiling systems have been supporting
the development of the contemporary architecture thanks
to ever-new slat and grid ceilings adapted to current
requirements. In the second generation, the company is
now headed by Managing Director Helmut Schmalseder and
his wife, Ute Schmalseder, née Haufe.
Our production site is located near Stuttgart. From here,
we maintain close contact with the architects and support
our customers with a competent planning service, which
is specifically designed for architectural requirements. This
constant and intensive exchange continuously leads to new
architectural questions and constructive challenges. HAUFE
responds to these with project-related developments, but
also with new ceiling systems.
Hence, over the years this resulted in a wide product
system and an abundance of ceilings specifically developed
for projects in close cooperation with well-known architectural
offices. Today, Ute Schmalseder is responsible for the internal
sales team, in addition to the commercial part of the com-
pany. Helmut Schmalseder is responsible for technology and
development.
Consulting – planning – implementation
Our way of working
Architectural excellence is always a result of planning quality.
That is why we rely on a detailed preparation and a perfect
implementation. Our employees are experienced in coordina-
ting the details of planning directly with the architect.
After we have answered all the questions with the architect,
we develop an accurate plan including all special solutions and
constructive details after the order has been received.
As soon as the plan has been approved, all parts are
prefabricated in our company. They are packaged and – as a
construction kit – punctually delivered to the construction site.
A HAUFE ceiling is not only built once it is on the construction
site. Its creation to perfection already starts with sophisticated
planning and precise production using technically advanced,
state-of-the-art systems. This guarantees the high HAUFE
quality. In addition, it considerably reduces the installation
time and provides the architect with implementation
reliability.

Installation through qualified specialists
Due to the clear system and simple installation, a HAUFE
ceiling can be installed quickly and safely by any specialist
company. However, we recommend specific installation teams
who have been trained and certified by us. They are working
within the entire German-speaking region as well as internati-
onally. This gives architects the freedom to choose an expert.

Esthetics and functionality
Modern architecture and rooms with a pleasant atmosphere
demand a high-quality ceiling system. Our aim is to meet this
requirement. This is why our customers’ wishes are constantly
incorporated into our products – as are our many years of
experience in the production of ceilings. The diversified
HAUFE program offers you a multitude of individual design
variants. For decades, we have been successfully manufactu-
ring high-quality slat and open-cell grid ceilings.
The HAUFE slat system
The HAUFE slat system is distinguished by its stringent and
exact linearity. The slats are very versatile and therefore offer
enough space for individual solutions – without you having to
forego the safety of a mature system.
The space between the slats as well as the carrier rails is freely
selectable. Both strip lights and recessed lights can be integ-
rated flush-mounted into the HAUFE slat ceiling. We can also
temper the slats and/or equip them with an acoustic effect.
For this reason, the HAUFE slat ceiling is the most successful
ceiling in our program.
Making structures visible
HAUFE open-cell grid ceilings are functional and vary the design
focus, depending on color and installation height.
Segmüller Pulheim | architecture office Kottmair
The combination of different luminaires with the HAUFE slats results
in a spatial tension.
Federal secondary school Gainfarn | Franz und Sue ZT GmbH, Austria
It perfectly adapts to a wide variety of deployment sites with
their different technical and constructional requirements. And
because the slats’ color design is almost freely selectable, the
HAUFE ceiling can be found in office buildings, conference
centers, and event rooms as well as in museums, sales areas,
and public buildings of all kinds.
Die HAUFE open-cell grid ceiling
The HAUFE open-cell grid ceiling is a proven product sys-
tem that has been used for decades in furniture stores and
shopping centers. Timeless design, high functionality, simple
planning, and a very good cost effectiveness characterize our
open-cell grid system.
New range of colors
With regard to colors, our slat and grid ceilings can be adap-
ted to almost every architectural requirement in our manufac-
tory department. We can also paint individual slats in special
color shades in order to allow for the accentuation of certain
ceiling areas or even for a uniform color gradient within a
ceiling pattern.

Volume instead of surface
A HAUFE system ceiling does not always have to be a flat
surface. Due to different profiles, but especially by variable
lengths of suspension brackets, the ceiling can also transform
into a spatial volume via the carrier rails. In addition, a HAUFE
ceiling can be hanged as an inclined hanging section. It can
even have the form of triangles or ellipses. In any case, we in-
tegrate all necessary acoustic and in-house services, regardless
of the tasks the architects assign to us.

Exact alignment
The sophisticated system perfectly adapts to the functional
requirements of today's building culture. Technical building
services and fire protection systems work invisibly in the back-
ground. The inspection-friendly system provides easy access to
installations on the bare ceiling. Low system heights, a wide
range of colors and a sophisticated light concept complete the
system. Worldwide, modern offices, venues, museums, sales
areas and public buildings are equipped with our system.
The components of the slat ceiling
HAUFE slat ceilings are available as:
» U-slat ceiling standard (flat)
» U-slat ceiling acoustic (micro-perforated)
» V-slat ceiling
» Z-slat ceiling
The HAUFE U-slats are made of aluminum and either flat
(without acoustic effect), or micro-perforated (with acoustic
effect). The acoustic slats’ profiles are filled with a special
acoustic fleece. The profiles are 10 mm wide. The slat height
is 40 mm standard. Special heights of 50 or 70 mm are also
feasible. The material thickness is 0.4 to 0.5 mm.
HAUFE slat systems
Due to their profile, V-slats are more elegant and delicate.
In addition, they are slightly higher than U-slats. U-slats
and V-slats offer the same technial details and functional
advantages.
The Z-slats complete our product range. They are particularly
suitable for very large ceilings. Even with a slat spacing of 20
to 30 cm, the ceiling looks almost closed. The building services
above remain virtually invisible. Installations have to be han-
ged separately from the ceiling between the slats.
The carrier rails are used to fix the slats. They are installed at
a maximum distance of 1,500 mm and attached to the bare
ceiling with suspension brackets every 70 to 80 cm.
Our product innovation
Apart from acoustics, the indoor climate plays an impor-
tant role today. We faced this challenge and developed an
innovative system that can both heat and cool. This creates a
pleasant indoor climate which, in combination with micro-per-
foration and acoustic fleece, perfectly meets the requirements
of climate and acoustics.

The slat distance (measured from axis to axis) is called a module.
Here are several examples. However, the module can also be defined
individually. The free cross-section defines the free space to the bare
ceiling.
Slat connector:
The slat connector is pushed into the carrier rail with the closed
side facing upwards into the press cut. Then the slats are clipped
into the carrier rail from both sides. Finally, the connector is pushed
into the slats.
V-slat system:
The entire installation height (slat and carrier rail) is 70 mm, inclu-
ding the suspension bracket 160 mm.
U-slat system with or without acoustic effect:
Material: painted aluminum
Material thickness: 0.4 – 0.5 mm
Slat height: 40 mm (50 – 70 mm on request)
Slat width: 10 mm
Standard colors:
Slats: RAL 9016, 9003, 9005 and 9006, special colors

Technical data – carrier rails and end brackets
We define the distance of the carrier rails in a ceiling plan. It is usu-
ally determined by the arrangement of the lights and the fittings
of air-conditioning systems, electrical installations, etc., which are
located on the bare ceiling. The carrier rails are connected in their
length with rivets 3 x 6 mm or with screws.
The maximum carrier rail distance is 1,500 mm. The distance
between the individual suspension brackets should be between 70
and 80 cm. It is mandatory that the slat edge joint is situated on a
carrier rail. Both slats are fixed with a slat connector in the carrier
rail and justified in longitudinal direction.

As a rule, the slat ends with a 2 cm shadow gap to the wall. The slat
can protrude up to 30 cm. In order to close an open ceiling edge in
the room, an end bracket can be installed in the slat from above.
End profiles or end brackets are available in three versions. These
are shown on page 45. They are suitable for slat and open-cell grid
ceilings.

HAUFE acoustic slats
Due to their micro-perforation, acoustic slats ensure a sound-absor-
bing effect in open spaces, creating a cozy atmosphere.
Doc Morris, The Netherlands | kadawittfeldarchitektur
Timeless – elegant – functional
In energy-efficient buildings with thermal activation of
building structures, high demands are placed on the room
acoustics. With a free cross-section of 80 percent and a sound
absorption value (sav) of 0.35 (H), the acoustic slat is the link
between a good climate and pleasant room acoustics. The
slats are micro-perforated and equipped with a special profile
filling of sound-absorbing acoustic fleece.
This results in a full-area absorption of the room sound.
Due to the notably large free cross-section, the air from the
building services installations can descend spatially through
the ceiling. In contrast to the conventionally circulating air, air
falling from above is perceived as particularly pleasant. This
prevents the effects of drafts.

In conjunction with sound-absorbing walls and floors, sound absorp-
tion values (sav) of sav = 0.35 (H) according to the German standard
DIN EN ISO 11654 facilitate perfect room acoustics,
without influencing the climatic characteristics of the thermal activa-
tion of building structures.

Technical data – absorber system
HAUFE acoustic absorbers can be installed in the course of the
carrier rail as well as in the direction of the slat. Their fixing is
accomplished either between the suspension brackets directly on
the suspension wire, or they are placed on the carrier rails and
fastened with special brackets between the suspension wires.
Improvement of sound absorption
As an accessory, we offer an absorber system, which is
integrated into the substructure of the slat ceiling. It is
available in different variants and allows an additional
improvement of the sound absorption in the room.
The slat system still offers a free cross-section of 80 percent.
However, this facilitates a sound absorption value of 0.3 - 0.6.
As a matter of fact, our slat systems can also be covered
with a panel with acoustic effect (e.g. from Rockfon
company). Doing so, you can achieve sound absorption
values of up to sav = 1.0 (H). However, this closes the
system. Hence, fire protection installations must be
implemented in a second layer.

Light channels can be placed on the carrier rails front-mounted.
This can save costs for the additional suspension of the lights. For
lengths of more than 1,490 mm, the carrier rails must be interrup-
ted for lamps with a height of more than 25 mm.
Modular panels / spotlight panels
Recessed lights are fitted into the slat system using modular panels.
These can be obtained from us. The modular panels are custom-
made and painted in the ceiling color.
Strip lights and luminaires are perfectly integrated in the ceiling
with the help of thorough preliminary planning.

Creating individual highlights
Strip lights and recessed lights, specifically developed for HAU-
FE slat ceilings, as well as all commercially available lighting
systems can be integrated comprehensively in the system.
Especially strip lights, whose length can be freely chosen,
underline the linearity of the system ceiling.
Advantages of the HAUFE LED light channel:
» Can be laid endlessly
» Construction height without power supply 25 mm,
with power supply 60 mm
» Installation on the carrier rail, no interruption of the
carrier rail required
» Compatible with offices and workspaces
» Colors: black, white, eloxal

Inspection
Basically, the HAUFE slat ceiling can be opened very easily. The slats just need to be
compressed a little and then detached from the carrier rail brackets. In order to open
larger areas without removing the slats, a downward opening inspection flap can be in-
stalled. The inspection element can be removed upwards or downwards. For the down-
wards removal, the carrier rail is cut flat and equipped with four bolts. The inspection
flap can be opened downwards by simply unlocking it. It is fitted with two additional
carrier rails, which hold the flap slats. They are provided with latches to open and close
the flap. The maximum size of the inspection flap is 80 x 80 cm (other sizes on request).
Fire protection – building services – sustainable building
HAUFE ceiling systems are the perfect fit for the use in DGNB-certi-
fied buildings, like at 50Hertz net quarter and their head office in
Berlin | LOVE architecture and urbanism ZT GmbH (AT)
Safety in buildings
The large free cross-section of our slat system facilitates the
installation of fire protection systems such as smoke detectors
and sprinkler systems on the bare ceiling of the building. The
ability to forgo the second layer means significant cost savings
for you.
Our systems are available in fire protection classes A2 and B1.
The surface-tempered slat system has fire protection class B1.
In the area of escape corridors, the slats can be planned wit-
hout the temperature control elements. In this case, the slats
have fire protection class A2.
Air-conditioning systems, cooling sails and technical building
services are also installed above the slats on the bare ceiling.
Supply air can be designed falling through the ceiling in the
upper area. Alternatively, the slot diffusors can be integrated
in the slats – as can be seen on the left.
With a HAUFE system, only a few installations are directly
attached within the ceiling system. Hence, a HAUFE slat ceiling
allows for a quiet, harmonious interior design. Our products
are a perfect fit for the use in DGNB-certified buildings (accor-
ding to the standard of the German Association for Sustaina-
ble Building).
HAUFE inspection | Design – acoustics – light – heating – cooling – fire protection Design – acoustics – light – heating – cooling – fire protection | Fire protection – building services – sustainable building
Slot diffuser
To supply the rooms with fresh air, slot diffusers with variable adjustment options can
be installed between the slats. The slot diffusers are hanged separately from the ceiling.
In order to avoid breaks in the carrier rails, dummy elements can be used to underpass
the slot diffusers below the carrier rails. Manufacturers’ notifications are available on
request.

HAUFE surface temperature control
Design – acoustics – light – heating – cooling – fire protection | HAUFE surface temperature control
Our idea
The three components air and surface temperature as well as
air humidity are crucial for a feeling of comfort. Once they are
in a perfect balance, we feel comfortable. Often, it is difficult
to combine all three requirements cost-effectively and with
an ambitious creativity. The high density on the bare ceiling
caused by building services installations requires revision-
friendly ceiling systems with as low a construction height as
possible. Especially in multi-story buildings, every centimeter
of ceiling height that can be saved means cash money for the
builder. Revision-friendly systems with a high free cross-section
allow the installation of fire protection systems on the bare
ceiling. Supply and exhaust air systems can function perfectly.
A comfortable oxygen concentration in the breathing air, ple-
asant room temperatures, and good room acoustics leverage
better concentration and relaxed working.
HAUFE and eco-componens have addressed this challenge
and, in close collaboration, developed a system that can heat,
cool, and also absorb sound. This results in a pleasant, healthy
room climate which, in combination with micro-perforation
and acoustic fleece, meets the requirements of climate and
acoustics.
Heating – cooling – sound absorption
Increased demands on comfortable room climate control
require heating systems which must offer a minimum level of
coziness. The surface temperature control is based on a radia-
tion principle comparable to that of solar radiation. The slats
are heated by integrated pipes filled with tempered water.
The slats release their energy rapidly into the room in the form
of infrared radiation – noiseless and without any draft effects.
When impacting on objects and people, the energy turns into
heat.
The system is characterized by its high energy efficiency as it
can be combined with regenerative energy sources. Energy
savings of more than 40 percent are feasible, compared to
conservative heating/cooling systems. The cooling capacity
reaches approx. 105 W/sqm (with Δt average cooling tem-
perature to room air temperature 10 K). The energy saving is
feasible with the same temperature sensation and also allows
an even temperature distribution with a short heating and
cooling time.
Our cooperation with eco-componens guarantees a smooth
and fast installation of the system. As a result, it is possible to
precisely plan various installations, the position of the heating
circuit manifold, and all other details, thereby creating a
uniform appearance of the ceiling. Border areas which are not
covered with tempering elements are equipped with slats wit-
hout the tempering pipes. Installers can be certified by HAUFE
and eco-componens in a one-day training program to be listed
as a qualified installer. Detailed assembly instructions support
the technician during installation.

HAUFE special developments
HAUFE slats don’t have to be used for ceilings only. In 2016,
kadawittfeldarchitektur implemented the system in the gas
and steam turbine power plant Lausward near Düsseldorf on
the ceiling, but additionally as a wall cladding. It extends to a
height of 60 meters.
From rigid to flexible
Our slat systems have been developed as classic ceiling liners.
However, time and again creative architects use them in an
unconventional manner. Thanks to our openness to new
ideas and our close contact with the designing and planning
architects, we are also able to realize innovative architectural
ideas. For example, the slats were implemented as an extensi-
ve wall cladding recently.
Who says a linear structure must always consist of parallel,
straight lines? Our slat systems even facilitate fan-shaped
structures on the ceiling. Of course, the material characteris-
tics of the aluminum rails set natural limits. Nevertheless, at
HAUFE ceiling systems, we are fond of moving those bounda-
ries a little in cooperation with architects, time and again.

HAUFE open-cell grid ceilings
Detailed view of facing panel with full module
Square – practical – endless
The open-cell grid ceilings have been part of our offering for
decades. They are especially characterized by their timeless
design and high functionality. The open-cell grid ceilings are
predominantly found in furniture stores and shopping centers.
The HAUFE open-cell grid program distinguishes between
two variants. Type TE15 is inserted into a standard T-rail
system as a compact element. Its slat width of 15 mm
allows the T-rail system to be fully integrated so that it can
no longer be distinguished from the elements. It provides
these advantages:
» Revision-friendly
» Quick installation due to year-long experience of technicians
» Powerful appearance
Type P-10 consists of elements and an internal substructure.
Due to the slat width of 10 mm, this system appears more
filigree. It provides these advantages:
» Revision-friendly
» Inexpensive, the substructure is included in the price

The open-cell grid ceiling type TE15
The installation of the TE15 system in a substructure of T-rails
guarantees a cost-effective and high-quality implementation.
Simple and clever
The HAUFE open-cell grid ceiling type TE15 consists of grid
elements with circumferential frames, which are inserted into
15 mm wide T-rail substructures from USG or CMC or other
manufacturers. On request, the substructure can be obtained
from us or from the specialist trade.
The open-cell grid ceiling can be easily inspected, it is non-
corrosive and dust-repellent. It corresponds to fire protection
class A1 and is installed with continuous assembly.
Above the system, smoke detectors, sprinkler systems, and
building services can be installed on the bare ceiling. Due to
the high free cross-section, their functions remain unchanged.
The entire system can be hanged several meters from the bare
ceiling.
Technical data – open-cell grid ceiling type TE15
The elements have a slat width of 15 mm, the frame is
slightly recessed. The element size is basically 600 x 600 mm or
625 x 625 mm.

Open-cell grid ceiling type P-10
The installation of luminaires or spotlights is carried out via
modular panels, which are flush with the grid element and
custom-made.
Filigree and inexpensive
The open-cell grid ceiling type P-10 consists of grid elements
as well as carrier and transverse rails. The profiles have a slat
width of 10 mm, wall connections are realized with angles
made of the same material. The element sizes are standar-
dized to 600 x 600 mm or 625 x 625 mm.
As a result, commercially available luminaires seamlessly fit
into the system. Custom sizes are also feasible. These are usu-
ally determined by us on the basis of the layout. Due to the
exact determination of the material quantity for the room,
you’ll save installation costs for additional cuts and will have
only a small amount of material waste.
