deserts are really dry and only have 90 cm of rain a year so plants have to store the water they get. When it dose rain in the desert it comes in the form of a thunderstorm.

there are only a few places in the world that there are deserts and these are where they are North Africa, Mongolia-China, Southern Africa, Australia and North America.

These are only some of the plants in the desert but there are even more than this.

Barrel cactus, pipe cactus, popcorn flower, morman tree and fairy duster.

The barrel cactus is obviously in the cactus family. It can grow up to 5 ft. high and 2 ft. wide. It’s flower colour is orange or yellow and it blooms in summer.

Fairy dusters is one of the plants in the desert. Its scientific name is calliandra and it loves the sun and warmth and will grow in almost every kind of soil. The fairy dusters flower is almost a red fluff ball that can grow to an inch wide.

The golden eagle is in the Accipitridae family and its wingspan is 150 to 240cm wide. Its scientific name is Aquila chrysaetos. It eats animals like rabbits, marmots, ground squirrels, and large mammals such as foxes, wild and domestic cats, mountain goats, ibex, and young deer.

The fat sand rat is a mammal that eats seeds and plants. The fat sand rat is part of the gerbil family and its scientific name is psammony obesus. A fat sand rat can grow up to 14-18.5 cm and its tail can grow to 12-15 cm long. www.Freedigitalphotos.net

The biggest desert in the world is the Sahara desert and it is 9,065,000 square kilometres. and deserts cover about one fifth of the earth which is nearly this much of the earth.
