1 Descendants of Jane MORLEDGE Born Breadsall, Derbyshire, 1814, died Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, 1879 Note: Most dates post 1837 are the General Register Office registration quarters and years, not the actual. Where individuals have been located on census and other data then that place name has been used, otherwise the registration district is included. Dates from the 1939 Register and family trees at Ancestry are included where found. Do not take my recordings as being 100% accurate, instead use them as a guide. Error corrections and additional entries will be appreciated. Many of the Fisher and Matthews BMD entries were recorded in the Shardlow registration district which covered a large swathe of east and south Derbyshire as well as parts of Leicestershire. In 1938 the Shardlow district was contracted in size and the new Ilkeston registration district created. Those who were lived in and adjacent to Long Eaton were registered Shardlow to 1938, then Ilkeston afterwards. Long Eaton is on the Derbyshire/Nottinghamshire border and quite close to Nottingham where the deaths of several Long Eaton residents were registered. It’s likely those deaths occurred at the Nottingham Gneral Hospital, but some families had moved to that town including Henry and Jane (MORLEDGE) FISHER. A surname shown thus (MORLEDGE) is the maiden surname of wife/mother. 2. Elizabeth MORLEDGE, b. ABT 1838 in Breadsall, Derbyshire, England, d. 16 Jul 1917 in Redcliffs,

Christchurch NZ, buried 19 Jul 1917 in Linwood Cemetery Christchurch.

Elizabeth was obviously illegitimate as no name is recorded for her father on the 1859 marriage certificate,

nor is it recorded on her 1917 death certificate. Her brother John born 1844 may have been a half brother.

In 1851 she is recorded as Elizabeth Fisher living with her mother Jane, now Mrs Fisher. Jane married Henry

Fisher in 1846.

1841 aged 4, born Derbyshire, living Breadsall with widowed grandmother Elizabeth Morledge, nee

Hollingworth.

1851 aged 12, born Breadsall, living Court 2, 13 Bath Street, Derby St.Alkmund.

1861 aged 32 (sic) born Breadsall, living 12 Stanhope Street, Litchurch.

1871 aged 32 born Breadsall, living 73 Douglas Street, Litchurch.

Emigrated to New Zealand 1874.

If Elizabeth was indeed aged 4 in 1841 then her birth was too early to be recorded on the civil registration

index which started 1/Jul/1837. Her death certificate records her age as 76 in 1917. Death ages on

certificates are notoriously incorrect. Buried Block 47, plot 298 at Linwood Cemetery. Of 5 Celia Street,

Christchurch, at time of death.

She married Herbert FLINDERS, married 9 Jul 1859 in Congregational Chapel, London Rd. Derby, b. 26

Sep 1840 in Stenson near Repton, Derbys, England (son of John FLINDERS and Sarah LAMBERT),

baptized 6 Dec 1840 in Barrow upon Trent, Derbyshire, d. 1 Dec 1906 in Dunedin, Otago, New Zealand,

birthdate was obtained.

She married Frank William SIMONDS, married 30 Dec 1902 in St.Ishim Church, Roslyn,

Dunedin, NZ, b. 1875 in Milton, Otago, NZ, d. 8 Oct 1936 in Christchurch, New Zealand,

buried 10 Oct 1936 in Bromley Cemetery Christchurch, occupation Accountant.

8. vi. Herbert Charles FLINDERS b. 18 Jul 1876.

3. John MORLEDGE, b. 1 Apr 1844 in Little Chester, Derbyshire, d. Mar 1927 in Derby, Derbyshire.

John was born two years before his mother Jane married Henry Fisher. John may not have been a full

brother to Elizabeth, who was Janes's daughter born circa 1837 at Breadsall, Derbyshire. His 1867 marriage

certificate gives the name of his father as John MORLEDGE, but this is likely a cover up.

He married (1) Elizabeth TIVEY, married 13 Jul 1867 in St. Werburgh, Derby, Derbyshire, b. Dec 1846 in

Derby, Derbyshire (daughter of William TIVEY and Ann DRAPER), d. Sep 1880 in Derby, Derbyshire.

11

Height 5' 5.5", Weight 116 lbs, 33 inch chest, sallow complexion, brown eyes, dark brown

hair.

Albert was accidentally shot by another British soldier who was attending to his rifle when it

went off.

C. 862 Rfn. F Harvley appears to have been examining his Rifle kneeling by the fire to see

cause of jam (in the Guard Room) when for some cause the Rifle exploded. Statements sent to

100 I.B. He thinks the trigger might have caught on a button of his great coat as he leant

forward closer to the fire to get better light, but his hands were very cold, as he had just come

off sentry go, and he may have done it with his hand.
