There’s plenty to see and do as we make our way into summer, kicking off with the second Derby Comedy Festival, which returns with a programme of stand-up comedy, variety, comedy theatre and family events across all of our venues, as well as across the city.
The annual CAMRA Summer Beer Festival returns to its new home on the Market Place and as the new look Markeaton Park is unveiled, we bring you a programme of outdoor theatre and launch events in the craft village to sit alongside the re-furbished Orangery Café and new Footgolf and High Rope courses.
Staying outdoors, we have a great selection of events, from our Farmers’ Markets and Arts & Craft Fairs to an evening of classical music and fireworks at The Darley Park Concert and the unforgettably entertaining Derby Festé.
If you’re looking to keep the kids entertained during the long summer holiday then the Summer Musical Theatre Workshop and Troubadour’s Toolkit will provide them with a chance to improve their drama, music and dance skills, or just kick back and take it easy at Derby by the Sea.
Looking ahead, October sees the 9th Derby Folk Festival return to the heart of the city – last year was a complete sell out, so take advantage of our early bird offer and book before the end of July!

Jimmy CarrFunny BusinessJimmy’s been described as ‘the hardest working man in comedy’. Which, let’s face facts, is not that impressive. It’s like being the ‘tallest dwarf’ or the ‘healthiest glaswegian’. Really not that big a deal. Come for the witty and incisive musings on the human condition; stay for the knob gags. Multiple choice. Jimmy Carr’s ‘Funny Business’ will be: a) Packed with jokes
b) Rude and offensive*
c) A great night out If you answered a, b or c you were right!
* If you are easily offended. Don’t be a dick about it.
