Grand Knight’s Report June/July 2015 Well, it looks like y'all survived my three-year term as your Grand Knight! I was enormously honored to serve as the Grand Knight of council 6269. We are an amazing group of men, and we are blessed with the capability to make a difference in our community. We give freely to those in need through financial support, through our dedication to protect the unborn, through our comfort to those who lost a loved one, through our Unity, Charity, Fraternity, and our Patriotism. Gentlemen, I am not sure all of you understand the unique blessing you share to be able to call yourselves Knights of Columbus members of council 6269. You will never know, if you think it is just about dues and life insurance (but life insurance is important, right Andrew Tice?). There are things that other councils may do better than we do, but when it comes to opportunities for fellowship with other families of our Catholic faith (usually combined with raising money for worthy causes), I'll put our council up against any other. Picnics (Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day), Father/child Campouts, family movie nights, Superbowl Party, Monday Night Football, BBQ cook-offs, Chili cook-offs, New Year's Party, Christmas Party, Easter Picnic, Halloween party, Texas Hold'em Tournaments, Elvis concerts, Softball games, Third Thursday Happy hour, group rosaries, Pro-life dinners, Religious Appreciation dinners…I could go on. The point is, don't waste your $50/year dues and find yourself some events to come to; they almost always include free food and drink. Our meetings are still on the first Thursday of every month at 8pm. If you have an idea, share it with us and maybe we can add it to the list above. I may be finished serving as your Grand Knight, but I'm not going anywhere! This fine organization is way too important to my family's spiritual, charitable and social life. I am excited about our new Grand Knight, Greg Little. I think he will do a much better job of keeping all of us informed about all those events I mentioned above through the magic of electronic communication. Go Greg! You want to see the installation of new officers, get some free food and maybe even some Knights of Columbus swag (yes, I said it). Come to the Grand Knight’s appreciation dinner on Thursday, July 9th at 6:30pm. Say goodbye to me and hello to Greg, Stewart, Chris, and others. Also, come join us for our 4th of July picnic after marching with us in the Arlington parade. Award winning Brisket will be served, bring a side or dessert. God Bless, Mike Lara Deputy Grand Knight’s Report Gentlemen, I wanted to take this opportunity to thank Danny Lara for his service as Grand Knight for the past three years. Our council has had some nice improvements during this time. I also want to thank everyone for the chance to lead as Grand Knight. Our council is on the right path and I pray that I am worthy. Many people have already approached me with suggestions and I appreciate that. One that we will be implementing immediately is switching the newsletter to straight digital. It will be posted on our web site, www.KofC6269.org and also can be emailed to members. This measure will save our council hundreds of dollars a month. Fiscal responsibility and proper stewardship of the gifts of this council are paramount. Also, If you have not already seen our updated website, please get acquainted with it. It has a calender of events and other useful information. We are hoping to set up many more council activities and they will be posted there. Yours in Christ, Greg Little Old Timers’ Get Together The next get-together will be the third Thursday of the month at 12 noon. Please bring a dish to share and your favorite card or dominoes game. Respect Life Notes for June 2015It appears that we are on track for a good showing on three pro-life bills in the Texas Legislature. They passed the House and are now going to the Senate. HB 3374 requires physicians provide parents of unborn children with Down syndrome educational material. The bill was amended to exclude abortion as an option for information. HB 3074 requires hospitals provide food and water to terminally ill patients, if requested by the patient or the family of the patient. Since food and water are considered normal care, this codifies this practice. The vote was unanimous. HB 3994 tightens the restrictions on judicial bypass for abortions on minor girls.

I will keep track of these bills and their progress through the rest of the legislative session.

Upcoming Dates and Activities:Every Monday night, 7 pm at St Maria Goretti (SMG) - Cenacles of Life: Join us to pray two Rosaries for an end to abortion and euthanasia in front of the Tabernacle. We have been doing this prayer ministry for over 6 years. We're usually in the SMG Church but check the SMG bulletin or call Jerry to verify the location.

2d Saturday Rosary at Planned Parenthood - There is sidewalk prayer at Planned Parenthood, 6464 John Ryan, Fort Worth on Saturday Jun 13, 2015 from 8 - 10 am. All are invited to attend. Stand silently praying the Rosary. No signs, no personal talking, pray for an end to the horror of abortion. The killing has returned, taking place on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

June 26-28: There is a Vocations Awareness Program at the University of Dallas in Irving. Visit vapinfo.org or contact Father James Wilcox at 817-945-9320 or [email protected] for more information.

July 30: KATH 7th Annual Summer Speakers Series at the Frontiers of Flight Museum in Dallas with Fr. Michael Gaitley, MIC starting at 6:30 with the presentation 7 pm. "Now is the Time of Mercy" The Marians of the Immaculate Conception (MIC) have a special dedication to all things Marian with a special affinity for the Divine Mercy. This should be a very fruitful event.

Vocation Corner:Our three new priests who were ordained May 23 are already serving in the Diocese. Father Michael Greco thanked the Knights during his first Mass at St Michael of Bedford, his pre-ordination parish. He is assigned to St Patrick's Cathedral as Parochial Vicar (Associate Pastor). Father Keith Hathaway, whose pre-ordination parish was St Jude's in Mansfield is assigned as Parochial Vicar to St Joseph's in Arlington and Father Ronaldo Mercado is assigned as Parochial Vicar to St Michael in Bedford. It is the custom to assign new priests to parishes other than their pre-ordination home parish. It helps the transition from seminarian to priest with all of the associated new responsibilities.

Our own seminarian Stephen Hauck has another year before ordination to transitional Deacon, having completed his pastoral year of service with Father Tom Kennedy in Pilot Point.

Pray for more vocations!
