Florida  Virtual  Campus  

! Established  by  the  Florida  legislature  to  promote  collaboration  and  provide  a  variety  of  tools  and  services  to  the  state’s  university  and  college  students  and  staff.  

! FLVC  Islandora  Implementation:  Expected  to  provide  digital  repository  services  to  12  universities  and  28  colleges.  

! Guiding  principle:  Finding  a  balance  between  ease  of  maintenance  and  institutional  flexibility.  

Fedora  Commons  Repository  

! One  common  root  for  Islandora  implementation  

! One  root  collection  per  site  

Solr  Indexing  and  Search  

! Single  Solr  Index  

! Namespace  based  site  search  (Not  what  we  did)

! Every  institution  shares  same  index  specifications

Database  Setup  (Drupal)

Drupal  Multisite  

! Share  single  Drupal  code  base  (including  core  code,  contributed  modules  and  themes)  among  multiple  sites.

-­‐  Shared  functionality  across  multiple  sites  

-­‐  Training,  Documentation  and  Troubleshooting  

Drupal  Roles  and  Permissions  

!  By  policy  every  site  has  the  same  roles  defined.  

!  Each  site  administrator  creates  users  and  associates  them  with  the  established  roles.  

!  Advantages:  

-­‐  Lower  Central  Administration  Overhead  

-­‐  Shared  roles  across  multiple  sites  

-­‐  Training,  Documentation  and  Troubleshooting  

Islandora  Metadata  Forms  

!  By  default  Islandora  has  a  different  form  for  every  content  model.  

!  Created  two  forms:  Full  and  Simple  and  associated  them  with  every  content  model.  

!  Content  Model  variations  by  template.  

!  Advantages:

-­‐  Training,  documentation  and  Troubleshooting  

Drupal  Custom  Theme  

! Based  on  AdaptiveTheme  /  Corolla  

! Custom  CSS  per  site  

! Advantages:

-­‐  Ability  to  override  default  Islandora  functionality  

New  Site  Deployment  Process  

1.  Create  PostgreSQL  schema  (not  required  for  MySQL  -­‐  instead  use  table  prefix  feature).  

2.  Create  DNS  entries  (i.e.  fsu.digital.flvc.org).  

3.  Create  Apache  Virtual  Host  -­‐  DocumentRoot  should  be  Drupal  Core  directory  for  all  sites.  

4.  Create  site  subdirectory  under  ‘sites’  folder.  

5.  Configure  Drupal  Authentication  for  Fedora.  

New  Site  Deployment  Process  

6.  Enable  Drupal  Modules.  

7.  Create  a  root  object  for  the  site.  

8.  Create  roles  and  configure  permissions.  

9.  Configure  Drupal/Islandora  settings.  

10.  Install  and  Associate  Forms.  

11.  Customize  Display  Blocks/Theme  settings.
