Since its formation in the early 1980s, the Indianapolis Saxophone Quartet has been a very active professional ensemble. The quartet has performed in a variety of venues throughout the Midwest, including numerous appearances at the Indianapolis Museum of Art, many college and university venues in Indiana and Illinois, jazz clubs such as Club Soda in Fort Wayne and The Jazz Kitchen in Indianapolis.

This concert will feature works by Gabriel Pierné, Jean Baptiste Singelée, Perry Goldstein and Jaime Texidor.

World phenom Maestro Krzysztof Urbański has taken the musical world by storm. Critics and audiences alike praise his refined technique and insightful interpretations. At only 29 years old, he has conducted major symphonies world-wide. With limited engagements in the United States this season, Urbański will perform in Greencastle with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, concertmaster Zach De Pue and the DePauw Women’s Chorus. This is an event you will not want to miss!

Concert repertoire will include Barber’s “Adagio for Strings,” Szymanowski’s Violin Concerto No. 2 and Holst’s “The Planets.”

Formed in 1974 when its original members were students at The Juilliard School, the American String Quartet was launched by winning both the Coleman Competition and the Naumburg Chamber Music Award in the same year. Critically acclaimed for its presentations of the complete quartets of Beethoven, Schubert, Schoenberg, Bartok and Mozart, the quartet also champions contemporary music.

Known for his dramatic and unique style and as a gifted orchestral colorist, Schwantner is one of the most prominent American composers today. He has served on the faculties of The Juilliard School, Eastman School of Music and Yale School of Music. Schwantner’s compositional career has been marked by many awards, grants and fellowships, including the Pulitzer Prize in 1979 and several Grammy nominations.
