• Established 1975 by Prof MG Sareen (sitting extreme left in the picture)
• It Was adjacent to CT ward with 14 beds.
Prof MG Sareen was the fourth resident of Prof Jacob Chandy (First neurosurgeon in India Father of Modern Neurosurgery in India)

Dr.S .R. DHARKER • Head of department from 1982 to 2006.
• Principal of SMS medical college from 1999 to 2006.
• Is Regarded as the father of neurosurgery in Rajasthan.
• Under his able guidance and leadership,Mch neurosurgery course was started .
• Most of the faculty members of SMS medical college have been trained by him.
• He is still an active member of neuroclub meetings and various gatherings and is still guiding us in all our endeavours.

• One of the largest ICU bed strength of 46 beds (22 beds in BMRC and 24 beds in trauma center)

Achievements of department
• In the current year,till now total of 50,058 patient have visited to neurosurgery opd and the total number of IPD patients are 6352.
• For the year 2019, 4252 surgeries were performed.
• Around 1300 neurosurgery cases were done in trauma centre.
• Around 550 endoscopic surgeries are done till now. • Around 316 neuro-intervention cases were done
this year till now and 112 aneurysmal coiling were done in this year.
• We are one of the high volume centers for neurosurgery with respect to in patient admission and out patients treated in Asia.
• We are one of the centres with the highest number of surgeries conducted per year.
• The department initially started M.Ch training programme in 1985 with 2 residents, grown to currently include 14 residents in each year.
• Total of 127 M.Ch students have passed out from the department .

Academic activities
• Regular academic sessions five days a week
• Includes one faculty lecture every week
• There are 35 ongoing projects one by each resident and a monthly meet to assess the progress of the project
• Audio-visual connection between operation theatres and the seminar room where the ongoing surgery can be broadcasted live for teaching purposes

• 157 patients have been contributed to the team
• 65 patients have been successfully optimized and apnea test conducted
• 14 successful organ retrievals have been done.
