The engine axis is parallel to the rear axle and the crank shaft rotates in the same sense as
the road wheels. The mass of the vehicle is 2200 kg and the centre of the mass is 550 mm

MODULE I – II
1. A centrifugal compressor with backward leaning blade develops a pressure ratio of 5:1
with isentropic efficiency of 83%. The compressor runs at 15000rpm. The inducers are
provided at inlet of compressor so that air enters at an absolute velocity of 120m/s. Inlet
stagnation temperature is 250K and inlet air is given a prewhirl of 22o to the axial direction
at all radii. The mean diameter of the eye of the impeller is 250mm and impeller tip
diameter is 600mm. Determine the slip factor and relative Mach no at impeller tip.
2. Air enters the inducer blades of a centrifugal compressor at P01=1.02bar. T01=335K.The hub
and tip diameters of the impeller eye are 10 and 25 cm respectively. If the compressor runs
at 7200rpm and delivers 5kg/s of air, determine the air angle at the inducer blade entry
and relative Mach number (Consider the velocity flow effect while computing density).
