ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering was established in the year
2001-02. The department is accredited by National Board of Accreditation and was
recognised as a research centre, approved by Anna University. Through our research centre, 5
research scholars completed their Ph.D programme and more than 26 candidates pursuing
their research programme.
Career guidance programmes and entrepreneurship awareness programmes were
carried out through the association of EEE. The department offers two Post Graduate
programme viz. M.E. – Embedded Systems and Power Electronics and Drives. Looking back
to the past, we recall the pride and satisfaction that the Department of Electrical and
Electronics Engineering own the best department award and got the appreciation as the best
team from CII. The Department is facilitated with highly qualified and committed faculty
members.
Our placement records has always being very impressive, with the large number of
students being placed year after year in highly reputed core companies and public sector
units. Our alumni hold senior positions in industries as well as in academic institutions, both
in India and abroad.
The high quality research work being pursued by the faculty and students is very
evident from the large number of research papers being published in referred journals. In
recognition of expertise and commitment in development of the department in developing
renewable energy resources, proposal for the funded projects has been submitted.
As part of the institution academic plan and student’s welfare development the
department is making several plans to conduct International conference, National conference
FDP, Guest lectures, seminars, Inplant training, Industrial visit and Internship training.

PROGRAMME EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES
To practice the students to have fruitful career in Electrical and
Electronics, Allied fields and stimulate them for Higher Education
and Research.
To provide strong foundation in Basic Science, Mathematics, Circuit
Theory, Field Theory, Control Theory, Signals and Systems, Power
System in Electrical Power Gadgets and Basic Electronics to Power
Electronics - necessary to formulate, solve and analyze Electrical and
Electronics problems.
To foster student cognizance for all-time learning and instill
professional ethics.
To adapt evolving technologies and stay contemporary with their
profession.

PROGRAMME OUTCOMES
1. Engineering knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science,
engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of
complex engineering problems.
2. Problem analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyze
complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first
principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.
3. Design/development of solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering
problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs
with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural,
societal, and environmental considerations.
4. Conduct investigations of complex problems: Use research-based knowledge and
research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of
data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.
5. Modern tool usage: Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources,
and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modeling to complex
engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.
6. The engineer and society: Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge
to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent
responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.
7. Environment and sustainability: Understand the impact of the professional
engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts, and demonstrate the
knowledge of, and need for sustainable development.
8. Ethics: Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics and
responsibilities and norms of the engineering practice.
9. Individual and team work: Function effectively as an individual, and as a
member or leader in diverse teams, and in multidisciplinary settings.

“Electrical Machines – II”
Faculty development and training programme on Electrical machines- II from 9th
June
to 16th
June 2015. The programme was coordinated by Dr.A.Suresh and Ms.S.Priya. The
lectures covered several aspects of construction, operation, faults related to different AC
machines and remedies to solve the faults. Besides recent advances in electrical machines

Apart from the training hands-on training was also conducted. Power projects, Chennai
demonstrated the ETAP software for designing Power.
Industrial training was also arranged at SAP Technologies, Thirumudivakkam,
Chennai. The participants gained knowledge on transformer construction and winding.

The Guest Lecture titled “SOLID STATE DRIVES, was organised on 24th

2015. Mr.V.Vijayakumar, Senior Project Leader, SRM Technologies, Chennai, gave
interactive lectures on usage of SSD in the modern electrical system with the help of power
electronic devices.

Workshop on Objects, Gadgets and Robots
One day workshop titled “Make Objects, Gadgets and Robots” was organized on 10th
February. Mr. A. Parthiban, product analyst and promoter, EPR Labs, Chennai explicated the
the design, construction, operation and the application of robots and the computer systems for
their control, sensory feedback and information processing.
Guest Lecture on Power Management
The Guest Lecture, titled “Power
Management” was organised on 25th
February 2015.The gatherings were
addressed by Dr.P.Janaki Raman,
Ph.D., Retd Chief Engineer, TNEB,
Chennai. He explicated the aspects of the
power management in feature and said
some of the power management products
like PMIC, SBC, LED Drives, etc.

Guest Lecture on Electrical Energy Generation Utilization and Conservation
The Guest Lecture titled, “Electrical Energy Generation Utilization and
Conservation” was organised on 10th
March 2015. Mr.Thenappan, Electrical Inspector,
Office of the Chief Electrical Inspector to Government, Chennai, shared his experience with
the students and explained the Electrical Energy Generation Utilization and Conservation.
Awareness Programme on IEEE
The IEEE Awareness programme was organised on 30th
March 2015. The Chief
Guest Mr.M.Venkatesh Kumar, Vice Chair, Power and Energy Society, Chennai, inspired the
students by explaining the benefits of IEEE society and shared his experience with the
students. He explained about my IEEE, Job Site and Vtool. He had given the deadline for the
submission of proposals to IEEE organization.
Guest Lecture on Transmission and Distribution
The guest lecture on transmission and distribution was organised on 9th
march 2015
.The Chief Guest Mr.A.Murugesan, Retd. Asst. Executive Engineer, TNEB, Chennai, shared
his experience with the students and explained about Transmission and Distribution.

8th National Conference
The National Conference on March 2015.The Chief Guest Mr.I.Jayandran, Senior
DGM (D&E), BHEL, Chennai, inaugurated the function and released the proceedings. He
shared his experience with the student relating to the modern society. The event came to an
end with a vote of thanks by Mrs.S.Priya, HOD/EEE.
