Challenges Our aim is to study and improve medical care and technology in orthopaedic and musculoskeletal disease. Our research is primarily based in dedicated laboratories at the University Hospitals Pellenberg and Leuven and is funded by competitive and industrial funding as well as public and private grants. Pain reduction in patients postmeniscal tear repair usingOrteq's Dynaknee.

A prospective safety, preliminary efficacyand feasibility, non – randomized, single-arm, multi-centre, interventional clinicalinvestigation using the Dynaknee for thetreatment of pain originating from ameniscal tear, or meniscal loss, requiringsurgical intervention. (Knee & sportlesions – Dr. J. Vanlauwe and Prof. J.Bellemans)

A human clinical trial to evaluate the safetyand clinical utility of GEM OS1 as boneregeneration system in foot and anklearthrodesis procedures.

A prospective, open label, historical control study. (Foot &ankle – Dr. G. Matricali)

Recurrence after surgery for Dupuytren's disease: arandomized controlled trial with double blinding, combiningsegmental fasciectomy with placebo or with oral tamoxifen.

Prospective randomized double-blind study on the influence of tamoxifen (asynthetic non – steroidal anti – estrogen known to modulate the production ofTGF beta and its influence on fibroblast function) on the healing process and therecurrence and/or extension of Dupytren's disease after subtotal fasciectomy inhigh risk patients, graded 4 or more according to the scale of Abe, with a follow –up of 2 years after surgery (with unblended extension to 5 years follow – up).

Tigecycline – Wyeth.

A multi-center, randomized, double-blind, comparison study of the safety andefficacy of a once-daily dose of Tigecycline versus Ertapenem for the treatmentof foot infections in patients with diabetes. (Septic Orthopaedics– Dr. J. Stuyck)
