Transcript of DENTAL EQUIPMENT DA 110 Pg’s 11-13 in lab book Not listed in order.
Waste Bottle for Statim
• Waste container for used water from statim
• Water should not exceed the maximum level line
• There should always be water inside the waste container above the minimum line
Ultrasonic Cleaner
• Vibrates debris off of instruments– Undergoes a
cavitation process where bubbles form
Plaster Trap
• Filters the dental stone & plaster while trimming models– One under each sink
where a model trimmer empties water and debris
Sharps Container
• Used to dispose of needles, glass, wire, and anything else that is sharp enough to puncture a balloon.
• Sharps containers are leak proof, puncture resistant, and come in many sizes
Sterilization Pouches
• Used to hold instruments while they are in the autoclave– Note: Instruments
are not taken out of the sterilization pouches until they are ready to be used
Light Cure Unit
• Used to set (harden) dental materials– Polymerization occurs– Used with the orange paddle
to shield the bright UV light
Lead Apron & Rod for Lead Apron
• Lead apron shields the patient from x-rays
• Rod for lead apron ensures that the lead apron will hang straight
Dental Stone Bin
• Stone and plaster are kept here
• Stone is used to make dental models like these:
Biohazard Container
• Used to dispose of:– Anything saturated
with blood– Pathological Waste
• Teeth• Other body parts
Nyclave Tubing
• Used to hold instruments during sterilization
• Alternative to sterilization pouch
• Used in conjunction with the Nyclave sealer
• Process indicator tape is placed on the package
Debris Trap
• Used to catch larger debris from the suctioning hoses– One in each
operatory• Shows location in
operatory
Air-Water Syringe (Also called 3-Way Syringe)
• Used to spray air, water, or a combination of both
• Used with an air water syringe tip (as pictured)
Saliva Ejector Hose
• Used to suction water, saliva, and small debris from the oral cavity– Used with a saliva ejector
tip (as shown in both pictures)
High Volume Evacuator (HVE) Hose
• Used to suction large debris and water from the oral cavity– Used with an HVE tip
attached to the hose (A)
A
Water Bottle for Operatory
• Provides water to the high speed handpiece and air water syringe
• Must be filled with distilled water each day
Passover between Operatories
• Used to store masks, 2X2’s, 4X4’s, bibs, barriers, cotton swabs, etc.
Cold Sterile
• Used to sterilize heat sensitive items– Instruments are
stored in Glutaraldehyde solution for 10 hours to overnight
High Speed Connector Hose
• Connects to high speed handpiece– High speed handpiece
uses a friction grip bur and sprays air/water when being used
– High speeds usually shine a light on the tooth when being used
Low speed Connector Hose
• Hose that connects to the slow speed motor & handpiece– Slow speed
handpiece uses a latch type bur
– Slow speed handpiece does not spray air or water
Eye Wash Station
• Used for flushing eyes in case of:– Contact with
microorganisms is suspected
– Contact with hazardous materials is suspected
