DEMO CARBON WHO IS IT FOR?

The Demo is about pushing the boundaries, and is for the Downhill racer seeking a competitive edge. These riders are looking to shave every tenth of a second out of their time by racing a bike capable of handling the gnarliest terrain, while being lightweight enough to accelerate out of corners and maneuver down the sport’s most technically demanding terrain.

FRAME DETAILS – ASYMMETRICAL We came up with an all-new asymmetrical frame with a lower center of gravity, while

simultaneously simplifying shock access and maintaining overall frame stiffness.

The frame’s fully internal, no-hassle cable routing keeps the cables off the paint and

makes the drivetrain and brakes easier to set up. The BB30 bottom bracket pivot

works in conjunction with the chainstay to connect the front and rear triangles.

And, it looks freakin rad!

Three main contributors making the new Demo the ultimate in handling DH terrain.

DH S3 GEOMETRY• The low geometry is headlined with a 63.5° headtube angle, a low, 343mm BB

height, and a short, 430mm rear end

• The geometry is built around 650b wheels

• The S3 Geometry is Style-Specific Sizing. The frame sizes are dependent on the

rider’s style, not how tall they are. With a low seat tube and standover height on all

sizes, the rider should first consider if they prefer a shorter, snappier-handling top

tube and wheelbase or a longer, more stable top tube and wheelbase

• Short & Medium sizes share the same seat tube height, while the Long & X-Long

are the same at 1 inch higher

ALL-NEW FSR LAYOUT The engineering team wanted to reduce weight and lower the center of gravity of

the rear end, so they designed an all-new concentric BB pivot with matching

kinematics as the previous Demo. The 200mm of FSR travel remains active and

independent, while the main pivot is lower than before, rotating around the bottom

bracket. The floating seatstay keeps the pedaling and braking forces separate from

suspension activity, while the standard size 135x12mm axle has been engineered to

stiffen the rear end with a unique L7 axle construction.

MATED ÖHLINS SUSPENSION

By building the FSR linkage and Öhlins shocks together, the shocks can be tuned

for the needs of the Demo rider, providing the range needed for varied race courses,

while not including unnecessary clicks or adjustments. The low-hysteresis, twin-tube

system is unparalleled in its control and consistency. It’s still the TTX shock, but has

been tuned for the new Demo platform:

• 5mm off-set head to tuck up into the frame with updated spherical bearings

• Rvemoval of the shock yoke extension & off-set geo cam

• Shorter rebound knob for easier spring removal

• Reduced mid-speed compression for more control on initial hits

• Increased high-speed compression for increased control when “at the limit”

HANDLING

Page 4: Demo presskit

LIGHTWEIGHT FRAMECreating a lighter chassis is important for maneuverability and acceleration.

Three major contributors:

• The FACT 11m frame is a full front and rear carbon frame, complete with carbon link.

The FACT 10m frame has the same front triangle and carbon seatstay, with an

aluminum alloy chainstay and link

• S-Works frame (medium) is 7.6 pounds with full paint (no shock or protectors)

• The asymmetrical seat tube may seem like it would have to be overbuilt to support

the seat post and rider. However, the loads on those tubes, combined with the new

FSR configuration, allows us to make one tube with more surface area than two

smaller tubes. The result: a lighter-weight frame and easier-to-access shock, plus

takes the legendarily unique style of the Demo to new heights

• Includes an integrated downtube protector for both FACT 11m + 10m frames

CUSTOMIZABLEIt’s important that every rider be able to add their own touches to their bike,

that’s part of what makes it theirs!

• The standard size 12x135mm rear end will fit a wide variety of hubs with the

unique L7 square axle square axle compatibility

• The shock rides on ball bearings for extra smooth action, but doesn’t require a

unique length or mounting hardware—it’s the standard 9.5x3” design

• The 1.5” headtube will work with any standard fork, as we use 1-1/8” steerer tubes

• The Demo uses a focused 7-gear system to be narrow, fast, and only have the gears

needed. We use a 135mm rear end with an 83mm BB30 bottom bracket

• The seat tube is 30.9mm

WE GOT QUESTIONSQ: NO WAY THE FRAME IS STIFF ENOUGH, IT’S MISSING HALF OF THE SEAT TUBE!! RIGHT?

A: We went through years of testing, and the results are impressive and super cool!

The frames were tested through simulation, in the lab, and (of course) by our in-house pro riders and Factory DH team. The rear triangle is stiffer than the

previous demo, the front slightly less stiff. Overall, the new frame is close to the same stiffness

Q: SO SIZING ISN’T BASED ON MY HEIGHT… WHICH ONE SHOULD I GET?

A: We kept the t-shirt sizing from before, so a good starting point is to look at your

old DH bike (small, medium, large, etc.) and match that to Short, Medium, Long,

etc. Even better, would be to look at the reach measurement, as height (also the stack measurement) is not as important. Finally, look at our riders for inspiration:

Troy Brosnan (5’7) - rides a medium

Aaron Gwin (5’10) - rides a long as he likes the longer, more stable wheelbase

Mitch Ropelato (5’8) - rides a medium as he likes a tighter, whippy bike

Brad Benedict (6’1) - rides a long in the park and an X-Long for racing

2F0FOOT OUT, FLAT OUT

Page 9: Demo presskit

PEDAL CONNECTIVITY WHY: All-Mountain and Gravity riders need to control their bikes through challenging terrain. Riders need the ability to get their feet on and off the pedals quickly and easily,

HOW: For 2FO Flat, our Slipnot rubber is tuned to provide pedal grip and durability, and uses a directional “sharkskin” profile for additional grip when riding with dropped heels. The hexagonal tread pattern is tight in the pedal zone to provide consistent feel and uses a more open pattern in the toe and heel for off the bike traction. 2FO Clip focuses on the shoe/pedal interface with a dual durometer Slipnot sole specifically tuned to make clipping in and out effortless. Our “Landing Strip” design uses a firmer durometer rubber and low-profile tread design around the cleat pocket to help guide rider’s feet into the pedals quickly and easily. Additionally, the rounded edge of the outsole reduces friction while engaging the pedals.

WHAT: Slipnot compound is used in both 2FO models and is specifically tuned based on the rider’s pedal preference. The different rubber blends have been developed with the compounding experts on our tire team.

RIDER COMFORT WHY: Riders need footwear that is comfortable in variable conditions and terrain, both on and off the bike. Whether lapping the bike park or out for an all-day ride, comfort and efficiency can make or break the ride.

HOW: 2FO is built on a new last with our relaxed fit that provides riders with a balance of pedal feel and off-bike performance. The upper and tongue are constructed with an “air mesh” material that has the cushioning of foam, but is highly breathable and does not retain water. This material allows the shoes to keep riders cool and keeps the wet weight of the shoes light and aids faster drying times. Like all Specialized mountain bike shoes, the 2FO family is built with our Body Geometry system, that decreases fatigue, increases comfort, and improves pedaling performance by supporting the riders arch and balancing the foot and knee for optimal pedaling efficiency. The clip version uses an extended 4mm cleat slot that allows for a rearward (Body Geometry Neutral) cleat setup. Riding with the included Body Geometry footbeds allows riders to position their cleats rearward for increased comfort without sacrificing pedaling performance.

2FO Clip uses our “Lollipop” sole construction; a 3/4 nylon plate in the pedaling zone that is dropped into the EVA sole. This construction allows for efficient pedaling performance, while providing impact absorption and flex in the toe and heel for hiking.

WHAT: The fit, performance, and Body Geometry features found in all Specialized shoes built into a platform perfect for the on and off bike needs of All-Mountain and Gravity riders.

PROTECTIONWHY: Riders want confident protection in technical, rocky terrain, allowing them to focus on their lines, instead of worrying about injuring their feet.

HOW: At the front of the shoe, 2FO uses an injection molded toe bumper that protects riders against anything from rock strikes to trail obstacles. Over the forefoot, an anti-tear polyurethane coated mesh provides ventilation without sacrificing durability. At the cuff, the shoes use an increased

collar height on the medial side to deflect crankarm and chainstay strikes.

WHAT: Toe to heel protection and durability features that provide confidence without a weight

(Clip 450g / Flat 395g) or breathability penalty.
