1 Product Overview

N-Series is a family of energy-efficient and cost-effective 1GbE and 10GbE switches designed for

modernizing and scaling network infrastructure.

- Use MLAG for multipath loop-free redundancy without spanning tree to enable full-bandwidth

utilization and high availability.

- Promote greater interoperability through interfaces with Cisco's Rapid Per VLAN Spanning Tree

(RPVST+)1 and devices using Cisco Discovery Protocol (CDP).

1.1 Lab Preparation Considerations and Caveats

It is in your best interests to ensure the demo environment you will be demonstrating is clean & tidy

before you begin. For this reason we would recommend, where possible, you log in to your demo at least

15 minutes prior to delivery and check the following;

1. Familiarize yourself with the environment during this time and check any specific features you are

expecting to demo.

2. Most importantly, be crystal clear with yourself on what it is you plan to show. A full demo of every

feature described below (with questions) can take several hours. If you only have a short time slot be

sure to focus on the key points that address the customer’s pain points and will drive value home to

them.

3. Ensure that you have scheduled the demo for sufficient time so as not to have the demo end before

you are finished with the customer.

Any other guidance on how the user should prepare for the lab can be added here. If there are limitation

or something the user should be aware of call out also.

2 Introduction

The demo provides a number of uses cases for consumption through both customer facing demos and

self-study labs for learning more about our products and the features they provide. At release there are

two scenarios covered in the environment:

- MLAG with Routed VLT

- MLAG with VRRP

- Wireless with W-ClearPass Access Management

I

In addition interoperability into an existing Cisco environment is demonstrated as an element of the

overall demo lab. The demo guide also covers the different options available for demo consumption:

- Build it yourself

- configured

2.1 Lab Topology and Essential Information

As of April 2014, there are a total of 4 hardware pods, each consisting of:

2 – S4810 Core Switches (with VLT)

1 – S4810 Server Access Switch

2 – N4032 Campus Aggregation Switches (with MLAG)

1 – C3750 Client Access Switch

1 – Server VM

2.1.2 Element Access

Using the Landing VM with RDM

New for 2014 is the use of Remote Desktop Manager (RDM). RDM is a simple tool to provide quick access

to all of the pod hardware from a single tabbed window. All demos are accessible from RDM and each

demo is grouped into a single folder on the left -hand side of the screen. These folders can be expanded

for each demo, and the hardware access to each device is achieved by simply double-clicking on the item.

Here is a screenshot. The red items are all part of Demo 1, while the Green can be expanded to access the

hardware in Demo 2. Each section has an icon to fully deploy the working configs or to reset the switches

back to a base config with only IP, username, and password configured.

When an item is accessed, it will appear as a tab at the top of the RDM window. You can have a separate

tab for each type of connection, such as SSH, HTTP, RDP, etc… Below is a screenshot of RDM with several

connections open. Notice the tabs.

If you want to reset to a base config or reset to a working demo config, simply run the appropriate icon for

that group and watch for the process to complete. All demos utilize the same switch hardware, so if you

cannot run both demos at once. For example, if you want

to run he RVLT demo, you will need to run “Deploy Lab – Routed VLT with MLAG”. After that demo, you

can run “Deploy Lab – VRRP with MLAG” to do the VRRP version of the demo. It takes approximately 5

minutes to deploy the hardware for a given demo.

3.1 Demo Setup – Routed VLT or VRRP with MLAG

This demo will walk you through the process of setting up the switches manually for RVLT with MLAG or

VRRP with MLAG. Keep in mind that you can fully deploy either configuration by using the “Deploy Lab”

Icon from the correct group.

MLAG is configured on the N4032 campus aggregation switches whether you are doing RVLT or VRRP.

RVLT or VRRP is configured on the S4810 campus core switches, depending on which demo you want to

run. The configs below show the setup for RVLT and the alternative VRRP where it applies.

The server switch and client switches do not run MLAG or VLT and the configs do not change for either

demo.

3.1.1 Setup for S4810-1 Core Switch

Access S4810-1 by double-clicking the connection inside RDM.

1. Configure the VLTi LAG.

3.1.7 Run iPerf between Server and Client VM’s

This will generate traffic load between the client and server.

Page 23: Demo Lab Guide Campus Networking - Amazon S3 Dell Demo Center – | Dell Inc., 2016 Demo Lab Guide – Campus Networking MLAG with Routed VLT and MLAG with VRRP Product Domain: Networking

1. Start by connecting to the Server VM from inside RDM. Once connected, launch the “iPerf_Server –

Shortcut” from the desktop.

2. Now connect to the Client VM from within RDM.

3. Launch the “LOAD_TEST – Shortcut“ from the desktop.

4. If you like, you may also run a continuous ping from client to server at 192.168.3.8.

5. Next you can start to run some switch failures to test. One at a time, you can reload S4810-1, S4810-

2, N4032-1, N4032-2. Ensure that each node is back online for couple of minutes before reloading

the next one. You should see minimal traffic interruption during each.

6. You can also run link failures by determining what links are connected. Using LLDP is the quickest

way to determine the physical topology and what is connected where. Once you have identified

links between switches, you can play with failing over certain links then watching the traffic from

client to server.
