Friday night’s open house was filled with joyful greetings, hugs and conversation as current and former residents caught up and reminisced about the days when Delwood was a young, developing community. The many displays and photos set up in the hall brought much laughter and a few tears to everyone who came.
Saturday’s fun included many activities and a lot of food! About 500 people came to enjoy the many activities including: the pancake breakfast; participating in the giant snakes & ladders game, scavenger hunt, bubble station, and petting zoo; be entertained by that juggler/balloon guy/Spiderman; eat some hot dogs; then bouncy castles, orbs, take a funny photo, enjoy the beer gardens and watermelon, listen to the pipe band and visit with some fire fighters. Whew!
After speeches from Community League President Greg Sorenson, City Councillor Tony Caterina, MLA Chris Nielsen, former presidents John Yakowchuck and Sherry Liimetainen and presentation to our My Delwood Is…video contest winners Raymond and Ryan Coelho and Nathaniel Sorochan,
everyone gathered on the hill for a special photo then enjoyed some celebration cake.
The evening banquet was a special time for many families and friends to share delicious food and more memories. The evening program was led by Art Shea and we heard from special guests Michael Strembitsky (initial Delwood School Principal) and Bill Maxim of Area 2 Council. The slide presentation of Delwood decade by decade was a hit and prompted many laughs. A brief rain shower didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits, as the day ended with a fun family dance in the big tent outside and a great fireworks show.
On behalf of the organizing committee and Delwood Executive Board…Thanks again to all the volunteers, sponsors and donors who helped make this day possible. Looking forward to another 50 years of fun and continued growth in Delwood! Teresa Stokes and Greg Sorenson Chair President
