Allison was born and raised in Fairbanks, AK. She attended local schools, and then went to college at Loughborough University in England. After three years of intense studying and involvement in various collegiate activities/athletics, she graduated with a degree in Human Biology. Post degree she worked in hospitals in their administration and hos-pital management departments, before saving up enough money to travel. She found herself in Sydney Australia and lived/worked there for a couple years primarily in finance and management. Upon returning to Alaska, she got a management position with Holland America/Princess Cruises and managed their customer service/administration/logistics dept for a large portion of the state. While living in Fairbanks she met her future husband, Michael Long who was stationed out at Fort Greely. They married in 2008. Three years ago they bought a home in Delta Junction and two years ago, after a couple years of looking, Allison made the permanent move to the area when she was hired at Wells Fargo Bank as their Store Manager. Michael is now a Captain and taking command of Alpha Company (the Military Police Company) at Ft. Greely in September and has been highly involved in the high school hockey team. They have a three year old son, Keenan, and an 11 month old daughter, Gillian. As a family, they are incredi-bly happy to be involved in the community and all the activities our town has to offer.

Meet our Two New Board Members

Kim White, and her husband Steve have been full time Deltinians since 6/2010, when Steve joined Boeing. He is a high voltage Electrician, and Kim works from home for Mayo Clinic Health System as a Physician Recruiter. They are from Minnesota originally. Kim has two grown boys, but no grandchildren yet, darnit! Steve has 3 grown kids, and 4 grandchildren. They have two fur kids (pugs), named Gracie and Grizz, who rule the roost at their house. Steve is having his 1968 Dodge Charger restored, and hopes to bring it up here next spring. He likes hunting, camping, and is an avid Nascar fan. Kim’s favorite hobby is shopping, so she puts that to good use at her Smiling Moose store! Kim’s other hobbies include playing scrabble, garage saleing, and fishing. She is on the hospital board, and is hoping we can get a medical center built here. When Kim first came to Delta Junction, she was welcomed with open arms into the IGA girls coffee group, and was impressed with how friendly the people were here. Since she works from home, and doesn’t get out much, she yearned to open up a business again. Kim searched for commercial space for over a year, until she found her current space in the building next to Posh. Kim owned a gift/crafts/antique store for 5 years in Minnesota. She sold gifts and home decor items, as well as rented space to more than 30 craft and antique vendors. Kim purchased and renovated a 2,200 square foot 100 year old building that housed her store on the main floor, and she lived in the apartment upstairs. Kim ran that with the help of a manager while she worked full time at IBM. So, owning Smiling Moose is like doing her very favorite thing in the world again! “We love it here, and I look forward to contributing to the livelihood of Delta Junction for years to come!”

Thanks for Soup Day at the Sullivan

A sunny August day with just enough breeze to keep the bugs at bay was a perfect setting for soup. The gar-dens were prepared for viewing and the tables set for dining. Soup Day at the Sullivan was pleasingly attended. The generosity of donations of soup and bread, tea, punch, and cucumber water, and the oh-so delicious ice cream, was reflected in the generosity of the attendants. Many thanks goes out to the makers of the delectable soups: Sandy Dighton, Carol Dufendach, Jeff Durham, Lou Ann Fett, Debra Fortune, Laurie Franks, Phil Kaspari, Beth Knopp, Carol McNabb, Christy Roden, and Kathy Trim, plus the delightful couple from Great Brittian Mr. and Ms. Brooks. Best of bread, biscuits, muffins, and scones provided by: Carol Dufendach, Courtney Durham, Lou Ann Fett, Carol McNabb, Christy Roden, Kathy Trim and Violeta Vorobyov. Tea, punch, and cucumber water prepared and served by out littlest elf, Kathy Trim. Carol and Haley McNabb happily served all their refreshing ice cream to the crowd. Set up and clean up thanks goes out to Sandy, Carol D., Lou Ann, Laurie, Christy, Kathy and our heavy lifters, Matt Cole and Mike Farrar. The process went smoothly thanks to the labors of this crew. Flower Cole has done a remarkable job keeping the roadhouse clean and tidy, making our set-up one less chore of cleaning house. Thank you, Flower. Additional thanks goes to Lou Ann for the lovely flower arrangements, to Kathy for donating the many treas-ured table covers to the roadhouse that will be appreciated and enjoyed for years to comes. Thank you, Delta News Web and the Delta Wind for mentioning this event. The Buffalo Center Drive-in was very gracious allowing us to help ourselves to ice, picnic benches and more, thank you B.J. Hearts were warmed by the aroma of soup, bread, and the company of good friends - thank you to all who attended for your kind support of the Sullivan Roadhouse Museum and gardens. Save the date for the annual yard sale at the roadhouse scheduled for Saturday, September 8, 2012. Also, anyone wishing to help with activities at the roadhouse can contact one of the many volunteers listed above. Sincerely, Christy Roden – garden elf
