Greening the office

• Green IT installations:

– Invested over HKD$6 million recently on systems to:

• Reduced travel: High definition video conference system;

• Paper reduction: E-processes in OT requisition, leave application and staff performance management. Duplex printing.

• Energy efficiency measures:

– Default laptop on energy efficient mode when idle and efficient IT server for data centre; [HP blade server technology]

– Strategic air-con and lighting zone to reduce energy wastage;

• Other installations:

– Over 600 new plants introduced in offices across China

– Focus on local and environmentally friendly finishing materials (carpet, ceiling tiles)

2008 – Class of Good Awarded. Achieved 6 goals:Reduced consumption of paper, paper cups and bottled water; Increased recycling of aluminum cans, plastic bottles and paper.

2009 – Class of Excellence Awarded. Further improvements:Reduced consumption of paper cups, bottled water, fluorescent and writing pens.

Environmental performance on recycling for reuse

National Green IMPACT Day since 2008

– Over 4400 items collected and redistributed by Deloitte in 2010 (incl. clothing, electronics, toys and books). Include donation of computer that has been phased out to NGO.

Furniture recycling

– Donation of furniture to NGO at office move.

Waste electronics recycling

– Currently supporting Swire’s program in Hong Kong office.
