INTEL® ITANIUM™ PROCESSOR – WHAT IS IT?

The Intel® Itanium™ processor is based on the next generation Explicitly ParallelInstruction Computing (EPIC) technology for scalability and reliability that Intel calls the most significant architectural advancement since the introduction of the 80386microprocessor. The Itanium™ processor (formerly known as Merced) is the first ofmany products to be released in this processor family. The Dell PowerEdge 7150 isdesigned to take full advantage of this new technology.

Announced May 10, 1999, the purpose of this equity fund is to invest in technologycompanies developing innovative enterprisesolutions for servers and workstationsbeginning with the Itanium processor. DIG-64

Dell is a founding member of DIG-64, theDevelopers Interface Guide for Itaniumprocessor-based servers. This industry groupwas formed to develop guidelines to establishbasic system building blocks, interfaces, andprogramming conventions for upcomingItanium-based servers and their system-levelsoftware in order to define hardware andsoftware compatibility and interoperability.
