DSA Architects International is a leading architectural practice with offices in the UAE, South Africa and Portugal. As dynamic international design team, with extensive experience in regional and international projects we provide a passion for Architectural Design and the ability to deliver landmark signature projects from inception through to final handover.
Having been founded in 1985 with the establishment of RSL Architects (Ridler Shepherd Low Architects) in Johannesburg, South Africa. RSL Architects then established DSA Architects International with offices in Johannesburg, Dubai and Lisbon.

The Middle East office in Dubai is managed by Steve Kelshaw, (MD) supported by fellow directors Floris Smith (Design Principal), Tim Goodall and Peter Davison, with a staff complement of around 100.The company’s Head Office is located in Johannesburg. Led by Clive Shepherd (Chairman), Rob Low, Zinon Marinakos, Beata Kaleta, Ian Manson-Kullin and Pierre Deckers.
The European office is based in Lisbon and managed by Mike Scott, (MD Europe).
Although the offices are managed independently, all three are mutually supportive, whereby experience, expertise and resources are collectively shared.
Over the past 30 years DSA has grown in size, scope and knowledge, which is integral to the success of the practice and today is sincerely able to refer to itself as a global architectural practice.

The Dubai office continues to expand its robust portfolio of projects and clients in the UAE, whilst consciously diversifying geographically, with work now ongoing throughout the GCC (KSA, Qatar, Oman, Bahrain), the Levant and beyond into North Africa, Eastern Europe, as well as in Central and South-East Asia.
The Johannesburg office serves Sub-Saharan Africa and the Indian Ocean Islands with projects ranging from commercial mixed-use developments (The Horizon Mixed-Use Development, Mozambique), and Boutique hotels such as the recently completed Hemingways Nairobi. High-End apartments; luxury resorts; beach hotels; safari camps / game lodges; business hotels; and entertainment complexes all form part of our extensive portfolio.. Not forgetting the refurbishments to iconic landmarks such as The Four Seasons Westcliff, Johannesburg and The Mount Nelson Hotel in Cape Town.
The European office responds well to the European requirements for sensitive intervention in an architectural context which is rich in building conservation and cultural heritage. Their portfolio of restorations and refurbishments include The Grand Hotel Europe in St Petersburg, Russia, The Ritz Hotel and Lapa Palace, both in Madrid but to name a few.

Over the past 10 years, the Dubai office has grown, developed and evolved to exist as a Middle East business in its own right, both managerially and operationally and to more closely meet the specific needs and culture of the local market.
The focus in Dubai has shifted to include not only hotels but large mixed-use commercial and residential projects such as the recently completed Oberoi Centre, in Dubai.

The senior management team consists of experienced, talented architects complemented with professionals from development, contracting and managerial backgrounds. Our international offices are members of the Emirates Green Building Council (LEED) and Green Building Council of South Africa (Green Star) networks.
