Executive Summary
This deliverable reports the activities developed in the Task 10.1 (“Dissemination activities”) and
Task 10.2 (“Communication activities”) that belongs to the Work-Package (WP) 10 entitled
“Dissemination and Standardization”. This deliverable comprises the report of the major
achievements regarding the dissemination and communication activities during the first half of the
project and the dissemination and communication plan for the final part of the project.
In a brief manner, the plan of dissemination comprises the scientific dissemination, business
oriented communication and the general public communication activities. For the scientific
activities, some target scientific conferences and journals have been identified and addressed, being
also planned the organization of special sessions in these events and courses and seminars at
Universities. For the business communication activities, fair participations and more specific
workshops for interested industries will be organized. Actual and potential customers will be
informed with specific communication activities and spreading of the results of the project. For
general public communication activities, press publications have been prepared, social media have
been activated, website prepared and duly updated, newsletter prepared and disseminated. Special
attention has been devoted from a communication point of view to the participation to the 4ZDM
Cluster, a cluster of the projects funded by the EC on the topic of the Zero Defects Manufacturing.

1. Introduction
1.1 Contextualization
This deliverable, entitled “D10.2 First report on dissemination activities”, reports the activities
developed in the Task 10.1 (“Dissemination activities”) and Task 10.2 (“Communication activities”)
that belongs to the Work-Package (WP) 10 entitled “Dissemination and Standardization”.
The objective of the WP10 is to disseminate and communicate the impact of the GO0DMAN project
results and innovations across the scientific, technical and industrial communities and push forward
the standardization activities. An important remark is that all partners contribute for the
dissemination activities, and academy and industry must be targeted during the execution of these
activities. In particular, the objective of the Task 10.1 is to carry out publicity and dissemination
activities to the scientific, technical and industrial communities.
1.2 Objective of the deliverable
This deliverable has a two-fold objective. If by one hand, the major achievements regarding the
dissemination and communication activities during the first half of the project are reported, on the
other, the dissemination plan for the second half of the project is derived.
1.3 Structure of the deliverable
In the GO0DMAN project, we have a clear division between the dissemination activities (associated
to the Task 10.1) and the communication activities (associated to the Task 10.2), which is reflected
in this deliverable. In this way, this deliverable, is divided in two major parts and within these by other
two concerning the deliverable broader reporting scope. On a higher level, the project execution is
divided in two, which coincides with the execution report until the M18 (i.e. the current time on which
this deliverable is being reported) and the second part as a projection to the remain of the project.
The first are considered in sections 2 and 3 for dissemination and communication respectively, while
the second (i.e. after M18) are depicted in sections 4 and 5 (also for dissemination and
communication).
Finally, the deliverable is finalized with generic remarks about the overall dissemination and
communication activities.

2. Dissemination Activities M1-M18
This chapter aims to report the dissemination activities developed during the months M1 to M18,
corresponding to the first half of the project.
2.1 Academic activities
The participation in collaborative projects, such as GO0DMAN, opens the possibility to propose real-
world problems to undergraduate or graduate students. In this situation, the future of Europe’s
working force has an early contact with real-world problems beneficing also from this factor.
Therefore, during the GO0DMAN project, several, dedicated, projects or thesis have been proposed
and are being conducted. The following tables summarizes the Bachelor, MSc and PhD works being
conducted under the GO0DMAN project in this first period.

Abstract: This paper introduces the idea of industrial business process management in the
context of the European Commission’s project GO0D MAN. It presents showcases on how
the industry domain independent, Business Process Management Toolkit ADONIS can be

industrial business processes for zero-defect manufacturing and can be further enhanced

Abstract: Multi-stage manufacturing, typical in important industrial sectors, is inherently a
complex process. The application of the zero defect manufacturing (ZDM) philosophy,
together with recent technological advances cyber-physical systems (CPS), presents
significant challenges and opportunities for the implementation of new methodologies
towards the continuous system improvement. This paper introduces the main principles of
a multi-agent CPS aiming the application of ZDM in multi-stage production systems, which
is being developed under the EU H2020 GO0D MAN project. Particularly, the paper describes
the MAS architecture that allows the distributed data collection and the balancing of the data
analysis for monitoring and adaptation among cloud and edge layers, to enable the earlier
detection of process and product variability, and the generation of new optimized knowledge
by correlating the aggregated data.

2.3 Conference events
Regarding conference related events, two Special Sessions with topics related with the project were
proposed. One more related with the particularities of the measurements process while the other is
related to the “Zero Defect” paradigm being a common proposition of three projects from the 4ZDM
cluster.

Title Smart measurement for on-line quality control Organizer(s) Nicola Paone Description On-line quality control is a fundamental element of Industry 4.0 manufacturing and
today quality control is often done on 100% of the production, not only at the end of the line, but also upstream, on components and sub-assemblies. On-line quality control systems are made of hardware and software components able to acquire a physical quantity, such as sensors and transducers and the relative mechatronic devices used to perform a test sequence and take measurements, the data acquisition electronics for the signal A/D conversion and the software environment for the setting of the system parameters (like sampling frequencies, acquisition time windows, gains, sensor set-up, etc.) and for the following diagnostic process. Smart quality control systems can be designed to exhibit at local level (single quality control station) real-time adaptive behaviors to keep measurement uncertainty under control even in case of variations of process or product or instrument parameters, pre-process data to derive synthetic quality indicators, implement self-diagnosis and self-calibration to maximize the confidence level of the measurement system output. This session therefore aims to collect papers describing measurement systems and quality control stations exhibiting smart behaviors, as well as papers dealing with the strategies to implement on-line quality controls (taking into account issues of uncertainty and confidence level of measured data, calibration of measurement systems, smart management of sensors, etc.) and finally algorithms for intelligent diagnostics based on measured data.

Title Innovative Technologies and Methods for Zero Defect Manufacturing on Industrial Cyber-Physical Systems Context
Organizer(s) Jose Ramón Valdés, Christian Eitzinger, Paulo Leitao Description The quality of products is a key factor for success in manufacturing industry along
with the reduction of material waste, re-works, rejects and stocks, leading to a demand for the development of zero-defect manufacturing (ZDM) strategies at system level. Under the umbrella of the 4ZDM cluster, several European research projects, aligned with the Industry 4.0 principles, are making efforts for the integration and convergence of technologies for measurement and quality control, for data collection, storage and analysis, at single process and at factory level, aiming to guarantee high quality of products without interfering, actually improving, the production efficiency of the entire system. In this context, the objective of this special session is to provide an open discussion forum where researchers and industrial partners can share their own perspective and visions on developing methodologies, designs and roadmaps to address innovative technologies and methods for ZDM on the industrial cyber-physical systems context. This special session is organized under the scope of the 4ZDM cluster, and particularly involving the following 3 European projects: GO0DMAN (aGent Oriented Zero Defect Multi-stage mANufacturing; http://go0dman-project.eu/), STREAM-0D (Zero Defect Manufacturing Solution; http://www.stream-0d.com/) and ZAero (Zero-defect manufacturing of composite parts in the aerospace industry; http://www.zaero-project.eu/).

2.4 Exhibitions and fairs
The first half of the project corresponds to the design and the development of the system
components, missing technical results and prototypes that facilitate the demonstration of the

project results. In this manner, the participation in fairs is not so effective and will be improved in
the second half of the project. Meanwhile, in spite of don’t having a specific GO0DMAN booth,
partners have participated in the following fairs where the GO0DMAN project was presented:

2.6 Lectures and courses
In the normal teaching activities, the academic partners largely use the accumulated knowledge
during the project, while two lectures were organized outside the academic world, namely:

2.7 Overall evaluation
Globally, the dissemination KPIs are on track, as reported in Table 1. Despite this, some of the
expected numbers were not achieved, namely with respect with lectures and courses. Although this,
one is able to extrapolate that the accumulated knowledge is without a doubt an added value in the
lectures and courses thought by the academic members within their normal university life. With
respect to the participation to meetings of other funded projects as well having people from other
projects participating to our meetings, the activity performed through the 4ZDM Cluster is already
providing the opportunity to meet the persons from the other funded projects, so we decided to
postpone these specific activities.

3. Communication Activities M1-M18
Task 10.2 “Communication activities” is a transversal activity which pertains to all the other tasks of
the project and is actively pursued from month 1 to month 36. Its main objective is to perform a
broad communication strategy throughout the whole project period. A continuous communication
regarding the current project status as well as general information regarding objectives, challenges,
approach and findings of the GO0D MAN project is ensured by the use of different communication
channels, addressing all relevant stakeholders and audiences. In fact, the use of online and offline
channels, such as website, social media, news on press, brochures and posters, supports and
improves the dissemination activities (Task 10.1) and the community building (Task 10.3).
Some measures for spreading information have been planned and the main results of these
activities for the first period of the GO0D MAN project are here summarized.
3.1 Corporate communication and design and website
During the GO0D MAN kick-off meeting held in Angeli di Rosora, the 10th and 11th of October 2016,
the Consortium was involved in the selection of the project logo. The LOC Identity Lab had designed
three proposals presented to partners and the one represented in Figure 2 was selected to represent
the GO0D MAN project. The visual identity has been the first step needed to design website and
templates (Figure 3). More information about the birth of the project visual identity can be found in
the Deliverable 10.1 “Project presentation”.

As well, letterhead, deliverable, presentation and report templates have been prepared for the
partners’ use since the beginning of November 2016 and they are available on the reserved area of

the project website. The templates report the GO0D MAN and partners’ logos, examples of solo text,
text and pictures and bullet lists. All the templates contain also the EU acknowledgement.
3.2 The website
From a communication activities point of view, great effort has been devoted to the design and
opening of the GO0DMAN website: http://go0dman-project.eu/
The website is operative and constantly updated since the beginning of month 4; it contains
information about the project, the ZDM main concepts and the consortium composition; a public
download area is available to download electronic versions of the public submitted deliverables and
other dissemination material; a screenshot of the website homepage is shown in Figure 4. The
website, powered by Wordpress, has been registered at Google Analytics in order to check and
register information about visitor accesses and monitor the website activity. More information about
the structure of the website can be found in Deliverable 10.1.

On the website news are reported in order to engage and inform the readers. Up to now, 32 news
have been presented.
Since January 2017, when website was published online, more than 3,000 visits to the website has
been collected, with an interesting average session duration of three minutes, indicating that people
that visits the website are interested in its content and are located all over the world (Figure 5 and
Figure 6).

3.3 Electronic newsletter
Four electronic newsletters for all interested stakeholders have been sent up to now as a
complement to the project website. They comprise information about the current project status or
upcoming events like trainings, presentations and conferences with GO0D MAN contributions. The
layout of the electronic newsletter is reported in Figure 7.

About 180 mails for each newsletter have been sent. Newsletters are also available on the GO0D
MAN website. In the following table the results of each campaign are summarized.

Open rate and click rate have slightly decreased since the first newsletter, but they are still far above
the average for industrial manufacturing mailing lists (open rate 16.6% and click rate 1.6%).
3.4 Brochure and Information material
An A4 leaflet was designed and printed by the end of month 6 and then has been updated on month
16, showing the GO0DMAN architecture (Figure 8). Paper copies have been distributed to all the
partners to be used in their dissemination activities and the electronic version can be freely
downloaded from the website. The leaflet describes the vision and the objectives of the GO0D MAN
project and shows the conceptual architecture and the characteristics of the use cases. The logos
of the partners and the contacts of the project are respectively in the first and last pages.

Furthermore, a poster has been designed with dimensions (width x height) 70 x 100 cm. It is composed of five parts. On the top there is the name of the project and the communication channels used (website, Facebook, Twitter). Below, the GO0D MAN vision and methodology are briefly presented. The central part shows the system architecture and the main pillars of the GO0D MAN project: Knowledge Management, Data Analytics, Multi-Agent System and Smart Inspection Tools. Afterwards, there is the description of the use cases where the results of the project are applied and at the bottom the logos of the partners of the consortium and the acknowledgement to the European Commission.

3.5 Press
At the beginning of the project a press release has been prepared in different languages and
distributed to the partners. Magazines and technical press have been contacted and the complete

3.6 Social Media
Digital medias (with the potential of getting to all stakeholders) have the feature of not just informing
- like traditional press - but also being interactive, giving the opportunity of a peer to peer and real-
time interaction between stakeholders and target groups. The following social media channels
dedicated to scientific and industrial topics have been selected: Facebook and Twitter.
Facebook has a universal network, while Twitter has a target audience. That is why in Facebook the
most part of followers are friends, while in Twitter are usually ‘unknown’ people with the same
concentration on topics and activities. Facebook is therefore a social network to communicate
projects promoted by EU to a large public, while twitter is an information network dedicated to the
sharing of knowledge among a group of experts or such aspirants.

Since its publication, on February, 23th, the GO0D MAN Facebook page (Figure 10) counts 221 friends
and 133 posts, with a quite good interaction with posts (as like, click or share of news - Figure 11).

tweets and 49 targeted followers (experts, clusters and projects about Industry4.0 and IoT), as

3.7 Measurement of the results of the communication activities
In the GO0D MAN DoA some performance indicators have been selected in order to measure the
progress of communication activities performed by partners during the project. Target values for
each year of the project have been also presented, and in Table 4 the values reached during the first
year of the project are reported.

The numbers in the table show that performances of the communication activities are beyond the
expectations. The missing results for the first year is one publication on TV/radio that will be
recovered during the second year and the Poster that has been prepared at Month 16, mainly
because we wanted to show on the poster information that have been reached after the first year of
the project. Now the poster has been delivered and soon will be installed in the different
offices/laboratories of the partners.

4. Dissemination plan for the interval M18-M36
The project must continue the dissemination activities in order to greatly potentiate the spread of
the achieved results. In fact, after the M18, it is heavily expected an exponential increase on these
activities since the technical and non-technical results are more relevant after M18.
Therefore, at the end, it is expected to at least, achieve the KPI presented in the DoA as depicted in
Table 5.

In order to achieve the aforementioned KPIs, some dissemination activities are already envisioned
for the short period to come.
With relation to scientific paper writing, it is expected the publication of the following papers:
Two papers for the METROIND2018 special session, one focusing the measurement system
and other the interaction between the agent and the inspection tool.
Three papers for the INDIN’2018 special session, one focusing the DC motor pre-
demonstrator, other the Knowledge Management approach, and another the description of
the GO0DMAN methodology.
Other technical and/or scientific papers describing the activities and achieved project results
addressing well recognized international events.
Elaboration of at least two articles to be submitted to a scientific international journal.
Also in a more scientific domain, it is expected to the GO0DMAN consortium to propose a tutorial in
one of the IEEE or IFAC conferences where the members are more actively involved. Tentative events
are IEEE INDIN, IEEE ICIT, IEEE IECON or IFAC IMS.

On an event/fair perspective, several strong hypotheses are on the agenda, namely the:
ICT 2018 (European ICT research and innovation event organised by the European
Commission), @Vienna, Austria, 4-6 December 2018.
Other possibility is to attend the Hannover Messe (http://www.hannovermesse.de/home),
@Hannover, Germany, April 2019.
The GO0DMAN project is using the Common Dissemination Booster (CDB) services provided by the
European Commission (www.cdbservices.eu), which encourages projects to come together to
identify a common portfolio of results and shows them how best to disseminate to end-users, with
an eye on exploitation opportunities. GO0DMAN in included in the project group CDB03-Z-Fact0r or
“ZDM”, which also includes the Z-fact0r, ForZDM, STREAM-0D and ZAero projects funded by the
European Commission under the H2020-FOF-03-2016 funding programme. CDB will analyse and
provide the “Service 1 - Portfolio Identification Services” that identifies and suggests the
dissemination portfolio of the Project Group and recommendations for joint dissemination activities.
The preliminary results of this service point out several recommendations for joint dissemination
activities:
Recommendation #1: ZDM Paradigm and abstract concepts: difficult to capture in traditional
and new media. Complex technology that is hard to explain, also due to low awareness of
FoF and Industry 4.0 concepts.
Recommended Action: focus on benefits, and, where feasible, use real-world cases to show
how their “pains” are being transformed into “gains”.
Recommendation #2: Many different (and sometimes very specific) application areas:
making it hard to extract general benefits.
Recommended Action: use end-user testimonials as a direct way of promoting the benefits.
Dedicated images (web and social media banners with compelling tag-lines) can be part of
the promotional campaign for increased visual impact (most adults are “visual learners”).
Promote diversity as a positive – benefits that are wide-ranging across many different
sectors.
Recommendation #3: Stakeholder fragmentation: many different sub-communities, in the
verticals as well as with types of stakeholders, SME, large industry, policy makers etc.
Reaching a broad enough audience across Europe. Step-change for large part of the industry.
Societal impact may be added as another scale to consider. Resource-heavy engagement
with EU digital hubs though they are essential in reaching the market. Identifying industrial
brand ambassadors is a resource-heavy activity.
Recommended Actions: Consider co-hosting events with the different categories of
stakeholders identified with a role for each category. Think lightning talks, including end-user
presentations (based on a template for a structured approach) and interactive panels, demos
and videos. Define takeaways for each stakeholder category. Consider also more end-user
events in their respective fields. Tailor dissemination elements to their specific needs.
Recommendation #4: Language barriers. Lack of “project buy-in”: partner media
departments and general disinterest in dissemination creates a barrier to communications.

Recommended Actions: Decide how important it is to have dissemination
material/information in languages other than English. Online and print glossaries or light
reading material can help introduce new technology terminology, thus facilitating
newcomers. Do a simple mapping of what actions they are happy to carry out and check the
effort allocated to ensure they contribute proportionately. For example, encourage partners
from different countries to provide translations of core information as a way of enticing
newcomers. Always try to involve media departments in press and marketing activities right
from the beginning. Ask partners to promote the project internally on a regular basis. Also try
to involve them in more market-facing events, e.g. trade shows and large exhibitions. They
can help in the creation of material tailored to new audiences.
Recommendation #5: Budget and effort constraints.
Recommended Action: focus on low-budget, high-impact activities like regular social media
campaigns, where visual prompts can make it easier to convey complicated/new concepts
(see above). Leverage the power of joint Project Group actions, where an action from each
project can go a long way in reaching out to end-users and other stakeholders.
Recommendation #6: Unrealistic expectations from large partner organisations and
reviewers: One example is the request to communicate the methodology to the media, which
is not a topic if interest.
Recommended Action: Make a list of general EU and national research magazines/journals
to disseminate the methodology used. Think about writing a joint article or a white paper.
Think also about introducing elements of the methodology into other types of articles, e.g.
end-user perspectives, as well as videos.
Recommendation #7: Similar solutions provide lack of clarity and decision making for
potential end-users: Having similar solutions form the individual projects provided as results
means difficulty for the end-user understanding what is right for him & her.
Recommended Action: Provide a prescriptive and easy to read list of what solutions provides
what type of result and includes, where possible, the differentiator between the other projects
to support in the outreach and this is identified in mutual collateral and marketing.
Having this in mind, GO0DMAN plans to strengthen the activities in conjunction with the 4ZDM
Cluster in order to follow and implement these recommendations to exploiting diversity and
synergies amongst the projects. For this purpose, the following activities will be considered in an
integrated manner within the 4ZDM cluster:
• Joint follow-up Roadmap report and white paper.
• Joint Scientific publications, articles and press releases.
• Combine social media outreach channels together and have dissemination
material/information in languages other than English.
• Organize talks and end-user presentations using interactive panels, demos and videos, for a
diversity of stakeholders.

5. Communication plan for the interval M18-M36
Communication activities already started in the first half of the project (website, facebook and
twitter) will be pursued and strengthened during its second half. The number of newsletters, website
posts, social media followers, distributed brochures and installed posters will increase according to
the KPIs presented in the DOW and reported in the following table.

In particular, after the second year (M24), a project presentation video is planned to be produced.
The video will present the GO0D MAN project and its objectives. It will contain interviews to all the
partners who will explain their contribution to the project. The video will be produced in a short
version (about 3 minutes) and a long version (about 10 minutes) in order to be better used depending
on the occasion. Both videos will be uploaded on YouTube and shared using GO0D MAN website,
Facebook and Twitter.
Special focus will be devoted to the communication of the first results of the project using
specialized press and internal channels of the partners, in particular the end users. The website will
be constantly updated in order to attract the interest of a larger audience.
Communication activities in conjunction with the 4ZDM Cluster will be organized as well as with
EFFRA and the Connected Factories Cluster.

6. Conclusions
This document has described the major achievements regarding the dissemination and
communication activities developed during the first half of the GO0DMAN project, as well as the
dissemination and communication plan for the final part of the project.
Naturally, the dissemination activities are being performed slowly in this first half of the project but
achieving all the expected indicators for the first year, and the communication activities are already
getting significant results and attraction worldwide.
For the second half of the project, it is expected an exponential increase on dissemination and
communication activities since the technical and non-technical results are more relevant after M18.
Additionally, GO0DMAN consortium plans to strengthen the activities in conjunction with the 4ZDM
Cluster in order to follow and implement the recommendations provided by CDB service 1 to
exploiting diversity and synergies amongst the projects in the ZDM field.
An important remark for the dissemination and communication materials, that will need to be
updated constantly. Especially the Web site and the presence in the social media channels, e.g.,
Facebook and Twitter, need to be feed with current and new materials, since they are the public
“face” of the project.
