By storing food at ward level, the service enables you to quickly regenerate meals and for your patients to order closer to meal times, so they are unlikely to have been discharged before the meal arrives. The result? Delicious dishes your patients will enjoy, reduced wastage and a leaner, more cost-effective service for you.

Developed for acute hospital settings where stays are typically around three days, the individual portioned meals mean you only cook exactly what’s required.

On high turnaround wards such as Maternity and Admissions, patients have often been transferred to another ward before their meal arrives. For wards such as oncology where appetites can be affected by treatment, our plated meals can also provide an ideal, on-demand, out-of-hours mealtime solution, so patients can order what they feel like, when they feel hungry.

How the system works

Warm china plates for a restaurant-style experience

Unlike our competitors, whose meals are often served on a plastic liner, the great benefit of our new service is that it enables patients to enjoy tasty, nutritious meals on warmed china plates, just as they would at home or in a restaurant.

It’s not just the china plate that creates a restaurant-style experience, however. Every meal in our new range has been created by award-winning Head Chef, Phil Rimmer, so your patients can expect delicious flavours whatever, and whenever, they order.

Ready to serve in as little as 5 minutes

Our innovative upside-down cooking method and compartmentalised PET trays make sure each meal is well-presented every time. All you need to do is remove the film, turn over the plate and in minutes you’ll have an attractive meal that’s ready to serve.

A plateful of flavour

The use of our china plate and specially designed meal tray ensures excellent presentation and encourages patients to eat. The plate has been designed to conduct and distribute heat evenly for optimum cooking results. The cooking method gently steams the vegetables, retaining great colours and an al dente texture.

A meal for every mood

We currently offer 20 main meal choices and a selection of tempting hot desserts. Our attractively designed à la carte menus enable patients to select from traditional favourites such as Roast Beef & Gravy and Shepherds Pie right through to contemporary classics like Spicy Bean Casserole and Sweet & Sour Chicken. And we’re not stopping there either; our team is committed to continuously finding ways to improve and expand the range.

Meeting dietary needs

As well as being nutritionally balanced to aid patient recovery, our meals meet Health of the Nation Guidelines, Dietitian’s Toolkit and CQC Standards and are suitable for many special diets. This includes diabetic, gluten free, vegetarian and energy dense. We also offer a selection of Healthier Choice options.

When you choose our plated meals system, we will prepare a clear plan for setting up your service and supporting you and your patients. You will be assigned a dedicated Training and Operations Manager, who will meet you and your staff to explain how everything works.

We want to ensure your move to apetito is a smooth one. So for the first few days, we will be on site to monitor the service, ensuring everything runs smoothly and pinpointing any further help you may need.

By partnering with several equipment suppliers we are able to provide a regeneration method which meets the needs of each ward – be it large or small, emergency admissions or short stay.

iWave

The iWave is ideal for wards with a particularly high patient turnaround and for on-demand dining. The built-in barcode scanner and temperature probe ensure that every meal is cooked to the highest standard in just 5-7 minutes.

Falcon

The Falcon oven will enable meals to be served within one hour of ordering. The oven, which is digitally programmed, holds up to 10 meals offering a simple-to-operate catering solution which provides optimum results every time.
