The bowling, which in 2008 was composed mainly of overseas players (Maharoof, Vettori, McGrath, Asif) was bolstered by a trade to gain former Team India pacemanAshish Nehrain exchange forShikhar Dhawan.Pradeep SangwanandAmit Mishrahad both improved since last season, and the offseason signing ofDirk Nannesfrom Australia created a bowling lineup that was strong. In fact, the Daredevils left the likes of Vettori, Collingwood and McGrath on the bench for most of the tournament, preferring to go with the oversas combination of Nannes, de Villiers, Dilshan andDavid Warner.However, despite dominating for the regular season, the Daredevils crumbled in the semi-final under a fierce batting assault byAdam Gilchrist, who hit the 3rd fastest fifty in IPL history (just 17 balls). Nannes in particular, who was again picked over McGrath, was punished by Gilchrist and later byAndrew Symonds. The disappointing semi-final meant Delhi did not contest the final of the 2009 IPL despite having the best record in the league stages. However, Delhi managed to qualify for2009 Champions League Twenty20because of their performance in group stage.Delhi was the table topper or the league topper in 2012. Morne Morkel of Delhi was the highest wicket taker of the tournament. Delhi came third in the tournament and qualified for the second time in champions league.Iconic Australian pace bowler Glenn McGrath expressed disappointment over not being picked to play any match during the whole season, and has since then stopped playing for Delhi.[1]

Therefore each team will play an extended season of 16 matches.In the IPL season of 2012 a new Delhi Daredevils side was seen after a poor 2011 season where they finished last they came back strongly they bought some star-studded players like Kevin Pietersen, Mahela Jayawardene and Ross Taylor.They stood first in the Pool Table with Kolkata Knight Riders second Mumbai Indians third and Chennai Super Kings fourth also qualifying for the Champion League Twenty20 2012 in South Africa.Mahela Jayawardane was appointed as the new captain of the Delhi Daredevils as Virender Sehwag stepped down from captaincy during 2012 Champions League Twenty20.2013 IPL season[edit]Main article:Delhi Daredevils in 2013The Delhi Daredevils lost all first six matches of IPL 2013 and they won their first match in 7 games against theMumbai Indians.Virender SehwagandMahela Jayawardene's partnership led to an inevitable win against Mumbai Indians in which they scored 161. Sehwag was the Man of the Match for his brilliant score of 95* of 57 balls. After this match, they faced the kings X1 Punjab and lost again. But in their 9th match of the season, againstPune Warriors India, they won and advanced to 8th place in the points table. They defeatedKolkata Knight Ridersin their 10th Match by 7 wickets but failed to advance to 7th place due to their net run-rate. In their next match against theSunrisers Hyderabad, Delhi Daredevils were bowled out for just 80, which was the lowest total in their IPL history, giving the Sunrisers an easy win. Then, in their match againstRajasthan Royals, they scored 154 thanks to new recruitBen Rohrer's brilliant half-century, but that was in vain as Rajasthan chased the total down easily with only 1 wicket falling and this also officially eliminated Delhi Daredevils from the 2014 IPL Qualifiers. In their next match, againstRoyal Challengers Bangalore, they bowled well and the Royal Challengers were 106 in 16.0 overs but scored 77 in their last four overs and got to 183 thanks to a well-made 99 byVirat Kohli. Daredevils lost a close match match by 4 runs. Daredevils next playedChennai Super Kings, who batted first and posted 168. Delhi Daredevils never got into the game and lost by 33 runs. Daredevils' next match was against Kings XI Punjab and they again lost, this time by 7 runs, as they failed to chase 172. Their final game was against Pune Warriors India which was to decide which team would come last. Delhi bowled first and Pune Warriors posted a total of 171. Delhi Daredevils were going fine until they started losing wickets rapidly. They couldn't chase the target and lost by 38 runs finishing in last place out of the 9 teams this season. Delhi only won 3 matches out of 16 played and didn't won any away games in the season. Despite coming last in the table a few big names were added to the support staff as the season went on like the legendarySir Vivian Richardsbeing named their new brand ambassador, former England spinnerJeremy Snapeadded to the support staff and renowned former Pakistan spinnerMushtaq Ahmednamed as their new spin bowling coach.2014 IPL season[edit]Ahead of players auction for IPL 2014, on 10 January 2014 Delhi Daredevils team announced that they will not retain any players for their current squad for the season 7 of IPL. With no players retained, the team will have the maximum right-to-match cards among all the franchises at the auction: i.e., three. They will also have their full purse of Rs 600 million (approx US$9.6) to spend at the players auction.
