    January 27, 2014

    Dear Friend:

Elizabeth and I have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of support and encouragement we havereceived over the past few weeks. We want to thank all those who took the time to contact us aboutrunning for the United States Senate, and for everyone who kept us in their prayers as we made this

important decision for our family and for the people of Virginia.

After much thought and prayer, I will not be a candidate for the United States Senate in 2014.

This was a difficult decision to make, because the challenges to our Nation have never been greater.

Ronald Reagan once spoke of America as a shining city on a hill. Unfortunately, that shining light hasbecome shrouded in fog. From the burden of wasteful spending and debt that threatens future

generations, to the oppression of a Federal bureaucracy that infringes on our civil liberties, to the liberalassault on the values of Main Street America, our Nation stands at a perilous crossroads.

Unfortunately, Mark Warner has stood in the way of the meaningful reforms that are so desperatelyneeded in Washington, D.C. He has consistently sided with President Obama and Harry Reid in support

of their destructive economic and social agendas. We need conservative leadership in the U.S. Senate tohelp foster a resurgence of the American dream.

At the same time, we also face a crisis of leadership here in Richmond. For the past several years, I havebeen fighting as Chairman of the Conservative Caucus to promote a conservative agenda for Virginia.

From opposing the transportation tax hikes, to resisting the implementation of Obamacare, to defendingour State Constitution from attempts to redefine the institution of marriage, the Conservative Caucus isstanding in the breach on behalf of Virginia values. At this moment in history, I cannot leave this field of

    battle to join another fight.

In the months ahead, I will continue to recruit and elect conservative leaders to the House of Delegates. As I travel around the Commonwealth speaking with grassroots conservatives about reclaiming our

government, I am heartened by the excitement and enthusiasm for a renewal of conservative leadership inVirginia. With your continued support, we can successfully lift the fog of liberalism that darkens ourhorizon and ensure that the bright light of America continues to shine for future generations.

    Sincerely,

    Ben Cline
