Because we develop our courses closely with employers and with progression in mind, HE at City College Norwich is focussed on equipping you with the skills to take you further.

All our Degrees are awarded by the University of East Anglia (UEA), with whom we enjoy Associate College status. With over 1,000 students choosing to study on our HE programmes each year, the College is a major centre for vocational Higher Education in the region and a great place to study.

Norwich is a fantastic city in which to be a student, with a thriving cultural scene, music venues, leisure opportunities and night life. Our School of Higher Education, Norfolk House, is based right in the heart of the city. Norfolk House is dedicated to Higher Education, providing the focal point for our vibrant HE community, which has its own identity, ethos, resources, networks and opportunities.

Our superb facilities and committed staff enable us to deliver high quality teaching in a friendly and supportive environment that is designed to meet your individual needs.

We keep our classes and tutorial groups relatively small to create an atmosphere in which you can feel relaxed and comfortable, complemented by larger group lectures.

A Higher Education qualification gained at City College Norwich represents a real investment in your future – like anything of value you will have to work hard to get it, but the rewards you reap will make all the effort worthwhile.

I can honestly say that studying at CCN was the best decision that I have ever made. The quality, knowledge, and passion of the lecturers shone through. They were, in my opinion, totally outstanding. They inspired me to go on to do an MA

STUDENT SUPPORT

FEES & FINANCIALASSISTANCE

DEGREES & HIGHER EDUCATION 2019 - 20

At City College Norwich we are able to charge a somewhat lower fee than other providers. This is because we are a large College and enjoy economies of scale in management and administration and because we do not incur some of the expensive overheads that universities must manage.

We recognise, however that the fee remains a significant amount of money, but all research shows that even in these challenging times the cost of your HE represents the best investment you can make in your own future.

In addition, there are loans that may be available to help you to pay for your time at College, which may cost less than you think.

FULL TIME HE PROGRAMMESCity College Norwich has set a fee for our full time HE Degree courses of £7,500 per annum (subject to subsequent annual inflation adjustment).

The Government has arranged for the provision of and for the subsequent repayment of student loans to help you manage your finances.

The great majority of full time students will be entitled to apply to Student Finance England for a loan which will cover the full cost of fees which means you will not have to pay a penny until after you graduate and have found employment and are earning a salary of more than £25,000 per annum. Once that happens loan repayments will be made automatically via the PAYE tax system. Full details of the Tuition Fee Loan scheme are available from Student Finance England.

AT CITY COLLEGE NORWICH, WE ARE COMMITTED TO DELIVERING AN OUTSTANDING QUALITY OF HE. WE KNOW THAT WHEN YOU ARE MAKING DECISIONS ABOUT YOUR STUDIES, MONEY IS A KEY ISSUE AND WE HAVE WORKED HARD TO MAKE SOME OF THOSE CHOICES EASIER FOR YOU.

DEGREES & HIGHER EDUCATION 2019 - 20PROGRESSION & EMPLOYABILITY

PROGRESSION & EMPLOYABILITY

CITY COLLEGE NORWICH SPECIALISES IN HIGHER EDUCATION COURSES THAT ARE GEARED TOWARDS EMPLOYMENT AND YOUR CAREER PROGRESSION – WHETHER THAT’S WITHIN THE SECTOR WHERE YOU ARE ALREADY WORKING OR TO ENABLE YOU TO MAKE A CAREER CHANGE.

In fact, a large proportion of our Higher Education students are already in work and we design our programmes to enable students to combine work and studying.

COURSES DESIGNED WITH EMPLOYERSA major strength of our focused work related Higher Education offer is our strong links with leading local employers. We work closely with these employers to ensure that our HE courses equip you with the knowledge and skills you need to be employed and to advance within each industry or sector.

Our courses are designed with reference to the latest industry and professional standards – and, where relevant, may include opportunities for you to gain specific professional qualifications or the professional accreditation to be able to practise within your chosen field. The fact that many employers actively support their employees to study on our programmes, including contributing towards the costs, is a real endorsement of their relevance and value for career development and progression.

THE ROUTE TO THE JOB YOU WANT‘Begin with the end goal in mind’ is a principle we encourage in our students and apply to our HE courses. The vast majority of our students have clear career related goals and progression in mind - and our HE programmes are explicitly designed to make sure you can achieve this.

The annual Destinations of Higher Education Leavers (DLHE) survey confirms that our students are successful in achieving this: 84% of our HE graduates were in employment 6 months after completing their programme with us.

Although not captured by the DLHE survey, we know that in many instances our graduates progress on to higher level roles with more responsibility and increased opportunities for further career progression.

A PROFESSIONAL LEARNING ENVIRONMENTThe emphasis on professional and career development in our courses is reflected in the learning environments we have created for our HE students.

Our seminar rooms and workshops are purposeful, professional, adult spaces – closer in many ways to places you may have worked than to a school or college classroom. Where your course involves the development of practical and vocational skills, you will learn in fully-equipped, industry-standard facilities.

DEGREES & HIGHER EDUCATION 2019 - 20MATURE STUDENTS

MATURE STUDENTS

AT CITY COLLEGE NORWICH, YOU WILL FIND STUDENTS FROM ALL DIFFERENT AGES AND STAGES OF LIFE, LEARNING AND PROGRESSING THEIR CAREER ON OUR HE COURSES. We find that many of our mature students share a common desire to open up new career opportunities. Whether you are looking to move on in your current career, or perhaps want a complete change of career direction, with new and better opportunities, you will find plenty of like minded individuals on our HE courses.

AN INDIVIDUAL APPROACHWe recognise that students may come to us with a rich variety of life experience, employment history and educational achievements and qualifications. In considering applications to our HE courses (in particular our Foundation Degrees, which have flexible entry requirements) we consider each individual applicant and their potential to succeed on the course in the round. If, for whatever reason, you didn’t achieve the grades at school you were capable of, don’t worry! We look at each application on its own merit; your professional experience and other achievements are as important to us as your past qualifications.

FLEXIBLE, FRIENDLY & SUPPORTIVEAs a smaller HE provider (compared, for example, to large universities) we are able to really get to know our students individually and to provide a level of flexibility and support that you may not find at larger institutions. If you would like to discuss your suitability for a particular course, it is generally much easier for us to arrange for our course tutors to chat with you and for them to answer your questions directly.

This flexible, friendly and supportive approach, made possible by our smaller class sizes, is something we pride ourselves on maintaining throughout your programme of study.

DEGREES & HIGHER EDUCATION 2019 - 20ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

ENTRY REQUIREMENTSHE can be demanding and we are keen to make sure everyone is well prepared for their studies.

Entry requirements set a level of education or experience that we advise is needed for people to get the most from their course.

QUALIFICATIONSYou will usually need to be aged 18 or over and have obtained (or be in the process of obtaining) an appropriate qualification. The College is committed to providing a higher level progression route for all of its Level 3 further education programmes. As a general guide, the most commonly acceptable qualifications are as follows:

• A and AS Levels• BTEC National Diplomas/Certificates• An Access to Higher Education Diploma• Qualifications equivalent to the above.

If you already hold an HND, HNC or Foundation Degree qualification you may be eligible to enrol on one of our articulated progression route programmes and begin working towards a BA or BSc Honours Degree.

For details of the UCAS tariff points system visit ucas.com

INTERVIEWWhile many programmes will insist on some specific entry qualifications or other criteria (such as passing an audition or test of written English), applicants for HE programmes may be offered an interview to determine your interpretation, motivation and commitment to the programme.

MATURE STUDENTSMany of our mature students come to City College Norwich after a break from education; some have few, if any, formal qualifications, but this is not necessarily a barrier. In these circumstances we take the time to assess whether the applicant has sufficient relevant experience that we could consider to be equivalent to the qualifications needed.

ACCESS TO HEAccess programmes are an alternative to traditional entry qualifications and provide excellent preparation for students who wish to move on to HE programmes. Evidence shows that students who take this route do well.

Full details of our Access programmes can be found on pages 36 to 38 of this prospectus.

RECOGNITION OF PRIOR EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING (RPEL)If you have gained qualifications at an appropriate level that are relevant to the programme or have relevant experience gained in a work based or vocational setting, you may be given credit, and possibly exemption, from certain elements of the programme.

Claims for RPEL must be made and resolved before joining a programme, so be sure to ask at your interview if you think this could apply to you.
