d.8 Other Research and Professional Activities • 2005 - 2006: Association of Borderland Studies - Interim Executive Secretary. From

October 2005, I have supervised the executive secretariat of the Association of Borderland Studies that included running the annual election, helping the incoming president and conference chair 2006, updating the membership database, liaising with the membership, publishing bi-annually the association newsletter.

• 2006 - 2013: Association of Borderland Studies – Executive Secretary and Treasurer: our bid to bring the executive secretary to UVic for the period 2006-09 was successful. 2009- The mandate was renewed for three years. 2011- The mandate was renewed for one year. The association stands at over 250 individual members.

• 2008 – 2013: Editor of Journal of Borderland Studies: This publication is at UVic from

January 2009 to December 2013. It is financially supported by the Association of

Borderland Studies, UVic’s Faculty of Human of Social Development, UVic’s Vice President Research, and the School of Public Administration. This publication in 2008 went to over 140 libraries, and over 200 individual members in 25 different countries. It has published nearly 500 scholarly and peered reviewed articles since 1985. In 2009, I accepted 24 manuscripts for publication and 12 book reviews. In 2010, the JBS becomes a quarterly publication. In 2011, the JBS becomes a Routledge/ Taylor and Francis publication with three numbers per year. We received 61 manuscripts and 5 special issues. In 2012, the JBS is again moving to four numbers per year. It received over 100 manuscripts and published 24 peer reviewed papers and 12 book reviews.

• 2008 – 2013 Director of UVIc European Studies Program: Director of one of UVic’s s nine undergraduate interdisciplinary programs – the European Studies Program (ESP). ESP offers one minor, one general, and one political science concentration in European Studies. This program manages six different types of activities: Teaching, Study Tour, EU Simulation, Seminar and movie series, and graduate, postgraduate and faculty research. Since 2009, EUS hired a full time staff, developed the EUS minor into a general, added course numbers to make all requirements transparent (study tour and semester abroad), developed a new exchange program with Lille, France, and started work on a new MA in EUS that will be a dual degree with the Political Science Institute of the University of Lille 3, France, and Faculty of Social Science and Politics of the university of Luxembourg, Luxembourg. Also, EUS won a European Union Center of Excellence grant Euros 600,000 (2009-12 shared with University of Toronto Munk Center) and a Jean Monnet Center of Excellence Euros 75,000 (2011-16).
