How did it start? Defjam is an American record label which

mainly consists of rap/hip-hop , RnB and Urban genres of music ; it was founded back in 1983 by a man called Rick rubin who thought of tee idea while in hs dorm room in his university and sold the first Defjam single its yours by t la rock, this happened because rick had moved to new york university to study philosophy and met with prominent DJ afrika bambaataa and since then it has gone on to be the label for promising artists to sign for to distribute and promote their music

Today defjam remain one of the largest hip-hop/rap producing labels of its time and create some of the largest stars on today such as jay-z and rihanna.

It could be said that defjam has changed to roots of rap music from being a really gritty genre too a classy and high-end product where the artists are more and more about wearing suits and expensive cars.
