Definition of aerobics and its importance:

AEROBICSis a form ofphysical exercisethat combines rhythmicaerobic

exercisewithstretchingandstrength trainingroutines with the goal of improving all elements of

fitness (flexibility, muscularstrength, andcardio-vascularfitness). It is usually performed tomusic and may be practiced in a group setting led by an instructor(fitness professional),

although it can be done solo and without musical accompaniment. With the goal of preventing

illness and promotingphysical fitness, practitioners perform various routines comprising a

    number of different dance-like exercises

1.Aerobics is a good way to get your body in shape.

any system of sustainedexercises designed to increase the amount

ofoxygen in the blood and strengthen the heart and lungs

    2. A system of physical conditioning to enhancecirculatory and respiratory efficiency that involvesvigorous, sustained exercise, such as jog

ging, swimming, or cycling, thereby improving thebody's use of oxyg

    en.

A program of physical fitness that involves such exercise.

Exercise designed specifically to improvecardiovascularfitness and, subse

quently, the body's use ofoxygen. Also called aerobic exercise.

Note : The term aerobics usually refers to aspecific kind of vigorous exercise, sometimesinvolving dance steps, that is set to music. Otherforms of

aerobic exercise include running, cycling, and swimming.

sustained repetitive physical activity, such as walking, dancing, cycling, and swimming, thatelevates the heart rate and increases oxygen consumption resulting in improved functioning ofcardio-vascular and respiratory systems.Jonas: Mosby's Dictionary of Complementary and Alternative Medicine. aerobic exercise

moderate exercise performed in the circumstance where the blood supply is able to maintain anadequate supply of oxygen to the tissues during the exercise.

aerobic exerciseexercise furnished with energy by aerobic metabolism; regular repetition

enhances the capacity of the cardiorespiratory system to deliver oxygen to muscles.

    Compareanaerobic exercise.

Aerobic exerciseis any physical activity that makes you sweat, causes you to breathe harder

and gets your heart beating faster than at rest. It strengthens your heart and lungs and trains

your cardiovascular system to manage and deliver oxygen more quickly and efficiently

throughout your body. Aerobic exercise uses your large muscle groups, is rhythmic in nature

and can be maintained continuously for at least 10 minutes.

Before going into the benefits of aerobic exercise, let's break down some key terms mentioned

    above:

Aerobics is an effective physical exercise which is often done to music. It can be defined as "any

activity that uses large muscle groups, can be maintained continuously, and is rhythmic in

nature." Aerobic exercise is any repetitive activity that you do long enough and hard enough to

challenge your heart and lungs. In order to work your heart and lungs hard enough, you mustget your largest muscle groups involved. They include your legs, gluts, back and chest. It is a

type of exercise that overloads the heart and lungs and causes them to work harder than at rest.

The important idea behind aerobic exercise today, is to get up and get moving!! There are more

activities than ever to choose from, whether it is a new activity or an old one. Find something

you enjoy doing that keeps your heart rate elevated for a continuous time period and get moving

    to a healthier life.

aerobic exercise that designed to increase oxygen consumption andimprove functioning of the

    cardiovascular and respiratory systems.

    Aerobic Activity

In this kind of physical activity (also called an enduranceactivityor cardio activity), the body's large muscles movein a rhythmic manner for a sustained period of time. Brisk

walking, running, bicycling, jumping rope, and swimmingare all examples.

Aerobic activity causes a person's heart to beat faster thanusual.

Aerobic physical activity has three components:

Intensity, or how hard a person works to do the activity. The intensities most often examined are moderateintensity (equivalent in effort to brisk walking) and

    vigorous intensity (equivalent in effort to running orjogging);

Frequency, or how often a person does aerobicactivity; and

Duration, or how long a person does an activity in anyone session.

Although these components make up a physical activityprofile, research has shown that the total amount ofphysical activity (minutes of moderateintensity physicalactivity, for example) is more important for achievinghealth benefits than is any one component (frequency, intensity, or duration).

stimulate and strengthen the heart and lungs, thereby improving the body

    's utilization of oxygen.

Constant moderate intensity work that uses up oxygen at a rate in which

the cardio respiratory system can replenish oxygen in the workingmuscles. Examples of such activity are exercises like stationary bike

riding or walking. It is a good activity for fat loss when done in the right

amounts but highly catabolic if done in excess.

Examples of aerobic exercises include cardio machines,

    spinning,running,swimming,walking,hiking, aerobics classes, dancing, cross

country skiing, and kickboxing. There are many other types.

Aerobic exercise is a fabulous workout that not only helps in maintaining your fitness level, but

also makes your heart stronger. There are distinct forms of aerobics like cycling; biking, jogging, running, swimming, dancing etc .You can also carry out your aerobic workout on different

machines in the gym like treadmill, stationary exercising bike, stair-stepper etc.

Following exercise is considered as Aerobic exercise:

    1. Aerobic Dance

    2. Bicycling

    3. Cross Country Skiing

    4. In-Line Skating

    5. Fitness Walking

    6. Jumping Rope7. Running

    8. Stair Climbing

    Examples of aerobic activities include:

    basketball

    bicycling

    ice-skating

    inline skating

    soccer

    swimming

    tennis

    walking

    jogging
