Conglomerate

A conglomerate is a large institution which typically owns multiple businesses and franchises, integrated vertically and/or horizontally allowing for great control over the production, distribution and exhibition of their work.

This attributes to the massive size of the 5 dominating American conglomerates. These organisations make it difficult for British film to compete, as the large amounts of funding behind Hollywood film means it can maximise its chances of success.
