    CHAPTER 1

THE BASIC PARTS OF THE IMMUNE SYSTEM

Did you know we all have an immunesystem? I bet you havent. Well it is oneof the most important systems in thebody, without it you would die from the

    smallest viruses and sicknesses.

There are two basic parts of theimmune system cells: lymphocytes and

phagocytes. They both travel in lymph,a liquid that runs through blood.Lymphocytes allow body to rememberand recognize previous invaders.Phagocytes kill the germs.

Immune:means to be protectedagainst something Sickness:a disease or malady

Virus: a viral deceaseLymph: a clear yellowish liquid thatcontains wight blood cellsPhagocytes:a cell that kills germsLymphocytes:a cell that remembersgerms so next time it comes they can

    get rid of it faster

CHAPTER 2PROCESS OF THE IMMUNE SYSTEM

In the previous chapter you learned about the basicparts of the immune system, now we will take a

journey through the immune system.1. First the Epidermis (the outside layer of skin)warns the body of incoming germs like for example if

you are cold.2.The next part where germs try to attack is theeyes. The tears that wash the eyes have specialenzymes(chemicals) that break down the cell wallsof the bacteria.

3.Saliva in the mouth works like the tears in theeyes. Your saliva has special enzymes that breakdown cell walls of bacteria.4. Mucousmembranes line the mouth and lungs. They act like a barrier to bacteria.

GOODS AND BADS OF THE IMMUNE SYSTEM

You might think that the immune systemdoesnt get affected by anything, sinceit is the system that protects your

body. But there are things that canaffect it. Here are some ways to keepyour immune system healthy.

Exercise is the first way. It helps you bymaking your immune system more activeso it produces more white blood cells.

Not eating a lot of sugar is the second way. If you eat too much sugar itsuppresses the immune system and makes it produce white blood cells at aslower rate.

Stress is the third and last way . Short time stress is actually good for youbecause it boosts the immune system with the adrenalin. But chronic (longterm) stress is bad, because it makes your immune system produce lesswhite blood cells.

    CHAPTER 4IMMUNE SYSTEM SICKNESSES

AIDS is the first, and one of the

worst. It is a sickness that damagesyour immune system into notworking.

Immunodificiancy is the 2nd. It iswhen the immune system, is notworking properly or not working atall. It is also really bad.

Auto-immune disorders happenwhen your immune systemmistakenly attacks itself or thehealthy organs of the body.

    CONCLUSION

In conclusion, I learned a lot from this

study. Before I learned about theimmune system, I didnt know whatkept you from getting sick. I didntknow why doctors touched the sides

of your neck. It turns out its to checkout your glands if they are swollenthat means your immune system isfighting to get rid of a sickness or

infection. It is cool to learn about thissystem. I learned a lot of this system. Ieven had fun along the way. Thankyou for taking the time to read this

    book.

GLOSSARYEnzymes: Any of numerous proteins or conjugated proteins produced by

living organisms and functioning as biochemical catalysts.Immune: having resistance to infection by a specific pathogenLymph:Lymph is a clear to yellowish watery fluid that is found throughout the body. Itcirculates through body tissues picking up fats, bacteria, and other unwanted materials, and filtering them out through the lymphatic system. This fluid contains white blood cells,

known as lymphocytes, along with a small concentration of red blood cells and proteins. Itcirculates freely through the body, bathing cells in needed nutrients and oxygen while itcollects harmful materials for disposal.Lymphocytes: Any of the nearly colorless cells found in the blood, lymph, and lymphoidtissues, constituting approximately 25 percent of white blood cells.

Phagocytes: A cell, such as a white blood cell, that engulfs and absorbs waste material, harmful microorganisms, or other foreign bodies in the bloodstream and tissues.
