Introduction
Turn off your television. Flip the switch on your radio. Concentrate on nothing but the feel of your breathing and the voice of your conscience. Slow down. Open your eyes—not to your own situations, but to those of your best friend, your next door neighbor, a stranger on the other side of the world. These are the things that I take the time to do every day, and every day, I see a story. I see poetry. Every day, I want to share. Over time, I’ve come to realize that we are all connected more that we are led to believe. It doesn’t take much effort for some of us to feel love or believe in this connectedness. However, it takes a great amount of effort for some of us to show love or be con-nected. Dedication is the one trait that is essential to anyone making an attempt to accomplish the latter goal. I have entitled this book Dedicated because each poem is a reflection of one of the many people I have had the pleasure of sharing my life with, including myself. These people, the “characters” in my life, range from close friends to strangers on the street, some who I may never see again. Through my experiences with these beings, I have been spat upon; I have been praised; I have exemplified immaturity; I have grown; I have felt every imaginable emotion. It is my pleasure to share these experiences with you because I realize that I am never alone. I understand that I have not deflowered any feeling, action or experience. I have not given birth to any new words—so I will be dedicated to spreading only the truth, whether it be that of the holy or the hole, my body or my soul. I believe that if one can view the world through an-other’s eyes, then it will be easier for that one to truly appreciate one’s own existence. It will be easier for that one to slow down, consider understanding and willfully experience our connectedness I am a firm believer in the idea that there is a reason for every occurrence, every person, in our lives. These reasons are not to be taken for granted, but are to be used as building blocks for the soul. I have a heart and a fist for a reason. I have a pen and a pad for a reason. I have talent for a reason. This book is my attempt to discover my reasons, and to hopefully help you to discover yours so that you may strengthen your soul as much as I have strengthened mine. Just as you travel through this book with an open heart and an open mind, so should you travel though life. Dedicate yourself. Love you all, Cambridge Jenkins IV

A Star in the Yve(s)
I raised my head in search of some guidance And spotted a star in the eve My hearing was heightened, Emotions enlightened I spotted a star in sir Yves To me, he was gentle Already at peace with the tasks he had at hand With just one listen of his fabulous notes You’d know he was a beautiful man Even those not familiar with Yves Can still state as a fact ”I don’t know what kind of man you were, but I know you manned that sax” He was a wonderful man in life Despite the imperfections That lead us at night With true faith, we’re always led home And I’ll follow the path On which this light has shown I raised my head in search of some guidance And spotted a star in the eve My hearing was heightened, and spirit enlightened I spotted a star in sir Yves Though your body has fallen, Your star is for all to see
Sometimes, I still see you on that bus.
May God bless your soul.

Memory
(For my grandmother) She wouldn’t catch a butterfly For she was surely one herself Her net was as wide as the greatest eye She caught fireflies right and left She kept me in her memory Later she helped me to see the light Her good intentions were evident in me But by then she had taken her flight Sometimes I cry too late at night I sit and wonder why Why the one who held me in her memory Just had to close her eyes I remember oh how cold you felt While dreaming of the sky And I wished that I could warm you With the tears I cried inside I remember when you’d talk to me That disease slurred your speech Though others could not understand, Your vision never failed to reach me I think you deserved much better In my heart you’ll always be In heaven, just as the King is God, My one and only Queen

It’s funny how we treat our elders Not knowing they’ll one day treat Not knowing that they sometimes Ask the Spirit in the Golden seat To bless their seeds and theirs alike with power beyond belief And to shield them with protection That withstands the greatest heat It’s funny how we remember “friends” But so easily we forget The ones who give the greatest gifts Are the ones we should protect She holds me in her memory And she I’ll never forget

On your journey you have… Eyes too beautiful to cry A smile too beautiful to frown A heart too beautiful to die Never let the world get you down Smile in the faces of good and bad And hold the spirit tight to your back For your journey, you have everything

Faith
Growin’ up in a world That’s full of the best hope I kinda wish my little cousins Would sell less dope And I wish my little sisters Would smell the right coke Drink the light coke And don’t sniff no smoke And I wish that my children Would follow the right slope But I know that all my babes Don’t have the right coach The world is broke With the will of a night roach To go and get the last crumb Thrown by the last hope We don’t share We throw our brothers the last rope And expect ‘em to create heart Out of a crashed hope But their success is low And the idea is bad dope I just wish my people would rise to their fears And have hope

Confidence
In the ghetto, I squeeze wild dreams Through the bars on my window And I cry at night knowing That these bars, I’ll never let go There’s the idea burned inside me That I’ll never be able to get no Where I see the school down the street, But will I ever get to go there? I see the manager I should meet, But will I ever get him to care? I see the homeless man on the corner, But can I get him to share? In the ghetto, I adapt to life, so I see no real need To let go And no real need to get gone Cause I feel like I was never Meant to get to a throne I’m only meant to be alone For my dreams have flown away So I sit and dream new things Just to live another day In the ghetto

Consistency
Everyday you pass the block And see its shape is out of line You wonder and you ponder And your question is time and time Never answered the way you’d like it to be It’s never perfect, never right So you sit back and watch unpleasant things grow While your dreams never take flight You take a marker, but you’re too lazy So your colors bleed outside the lines Your future’s darker, but you’ve gone crazy You fail to see that which blinds And when you wake from your shattered dreams To prepare your hands for their work You pick up your tools and bulldoze the scene Leaving piles of rubbish and dirt Ingredients for a fresh start But you let the weeds grow back And it hurts We act as if we are so smart, But this isn’t wit to me Lord, why do my people act With no consistency?

Haze
Blaze Blaze Blaze A beauty trapped in a fiery haze She smokes, she chokes, she tokes ‘Til the end of her days How can someone so beautiful Have such soul wasting ways? It’s like she’s wasting away Trapped in a rainbow A daze But rainbows don’t last forever And a daze is just a trail of lost ways She hopelessly follows the trail of lost days Strengthening her aesthetically damaging ways Lord help her find her lost gaze And help her through this phase For how can someone who shows such beautiful rays Be trapped in such a haze?

Hero
Coke Pot They’re just friends for your snot They waste you away, and make you feel like you’re not Cigarettes are so suave But don’t clean like the shampoo And that drink’ll drag you home, smellin’ just like some Who Who did it, and where, why? These things, they make you feel so high But don’t u know that when sometimes high You could have just up and died? Or is it died and gone up? You may see the gates Before you get sucked To a hell that really knows what’s up Not your life So while you’re with someone who cares Why don’t you just make yourself Do what’s right? Save your own life Be your own HERO

Reasons
Everything happens for reasons Some reasons, They can’t be defined Everything happens for reasons Some reasons are made in the mind Some reasons are made too late For there is such a thin line between reasons and fate Hate happens for reasons, While love just comes with the flow Why is it that hate remains forever, But love just comes and goes? What is the reason?

Preparation
One foot in front of the other It doesn’t go any other way So why are you getting ready for tomorrow When you haven’t lived your life right today Some of us prepare for good reasons But some, because we don’t know what season it is Some of us prepare for bad reasons Reasons that make cold souls of our kids All evil is pre-meditated Whether by us, or the devil himself And you wonder why you’re so ill-fated It’s because you’ve prepared for you death So unpack your bags, and clean your closets Because some dirt has sneaked itself in Get down on your knees and cleanse your soul Or submit to the fire within

Circle
That info you got from some anonymous tips Has got you staring at the shape on my lip It’s got you thinking that I’ve taken a sip Of some bad juice, or maybe a kiss That got infected when she played with a guy But that aint a fact, and neither is this I think it’s bigger that this I think it’s hatred of the look of your own And disappointment of the strength of your fist You feel like you’ve gotta love and miss Just to say you did a neighbor a favor, Then scratch one more off your list But talk about ‘im at the turn of a wrist And the flip of an eyelid You judge to give your conscience a lift But in actuality, your mind is adrift And your conscience afloat Not even grounded to your divine boat Which the Lord gave you To take it to a new road And take it through a new life You could take that love and find you a wife But instead, you’ve turned it into a knife Attacked others as if you were right You judge me instead of living your life Oops, but did I just judge you? This is the CIRLE of life Will I ever be right?

Hug
If you have ever wondered Why I’m so eager to touch Then you must also wonder Why I love you all so much Every soul that I meet Is a treat for my life’s rush It slows my rhythm down Makes my life more plush All I wish to do for you Is gladly return the favor For I finally know the importance Of unconditionally loving thy neighbor And what greater way is there To give such a love Than to open my arms and my heart to you And embrace you with a hug?

The Colors of the Heart
What is love? The word is defined as a strong affection or liking for someone or something. That’s a pretty vague answer, isn’t it? Scholars have separated love into categories—three to be exact. These different types of love are derived from the Greek form of the word used in the New Testament of the Christian holy book, the Bible. They are agape, phileo, and eros love. Agape is a love of charity and is unconditional. This love can be given by no one but God. Phileo is brotherly love. This is the type of love we show our family members and closest friends, but is conditional. Finally, there is eros, or erotic love. This type of love is love of the flesh, and is conditional as well. Throughout our lives, our hearts have cycled through these many levels of emotion, never really settling with one. I am a believer in these types of love but I don’t feel that they are a true representation of the many facets of the heart. I believe that any love, regardless of the type can be perceived more easily if it is represented by a color rather than a name. For instance, a man could stare a woman in the eyes and make an attempt to express his feelings fearlessly, but his quavering voice, trembling hands and flush red cheeks are clear signs that he is nervous. We can lie with our actions just as we lie with our words, but our color will always reveal the truth. The colors presented in this section—this dimension of my soul—are Red, Blue, Purple and Black. Red represents the bold and inconsiderate—the player; blue represents the passionate but reserved—the crush; and purple represents those who possess both qualities—the husbands and the wives. A purple heart is the strongest, created from a delicately balanced combination of pride and humility, passivity and force, love and lust, Red and Blue. A Black heart is the result of the death of everything that is good love. What color is your heart?

Blue
Why is blue forsaken, Like gray and black are too? What happiness is taken When someone’s heart turns blue? Blue is cold and silent Frozen to the touch But still, this does not explain Why it is feared so much Blue is also cool and calm With blue there is no rush Blue is jazzy, bluesy blue With blue there is no hush No hush at all, you see? Blue expresses freely what it feels from you to me And from me to you Oh, how great is this blue! It’s as blue as the sky Big, bold, and free It’s as blue as the bluest ocean Long, wide, and deep You are blue to me There are no faults in you I see When our souls collide I am truly free to be The one that I’m meant to be ME! And that makes me truly happy Whenever you color me, I see that we are meant to be All I ask is that you let me color you too For my heart would truly be lonely If you were not my blue

Fantasy
I see her in the hallway Look at her beautiful face Look at her starry eyes, I say While I approach with an even pace Placing my hands around her waist Is what I always see in my dreams With my approach, I don’t make much haste Because I can’t believe she’s looking at me There are no words that we speak As we get closer now, check to cheek She grabs my hand And doesn’t wait I close my eyes and she kisses me !

A Letter...
You are my sunshine But just as the sun shines for all You are never truly mine And I am never truly yours Getting to you is like Rowing a boat with no oars Sometimes, my heart feels up the creek And my confidence, lowered When there are others on your cheeks I know my lips‘ll be bored But I won’t be forever torn ‘Cause just as the sun shines for all I will one day see your light And my caged soul will soon one day Take its flight To meet with your nourishing rays So that one day, Our feelings can grow Until then I’ll just count the days Until then I’ll continue to hope

At night, when it’s dark and I’m all alone I just sit and look at her picture I dream about the day she’ll be on her throne The day that I will be with her I hated the day that I found her gone For all I have now is a flicker Of a past so forgotten and so far gone I’d die just to hold her So that my heart would not whither

Joshua’s Flower
Whenever I close my eyes I don’t have to wish that you appear Because thoughts of you come As naturally as breathing the air When you do appear, you are a flower As bold and as beautiful as can be Your love scent possesses much power And it is only for me to see Smell Feel Touch Taste My senses are in a daze I cannot even pick you Because sweet flower you have created a haze I may be blinded or delusional, But your trick is truly heaven The days I see you are many, But there must be more than seven Flower, you deserve your own day A day just for you and me A day to be yourself A day for you to see How much I really love you And if your scent is ever taken In any kind of way I won’t be sad, but awakened For a brand new Joshua’s day

I almost caught a butterfly I almost rode a unicorn I almost found a diamond, un-cut And in its perfect form I almost picked a rose That surely wouldn't die I almost caught a bird They surely wouldn't fly Away I almost drew a perfect line And almost lived a perfect day I almost drank a love potion That would work in every Loving Way I almost perfected perfection Yet if I had, I’d have nothing left to do I almost caught a butterfly I almost caught you I let her fly away With you, what should I do?

Nature
(The Phone Call) Oh, how I love it When we find a cold spot In the warm summer grass And gaze at the sky’s jewels ‘Til our eyes turn bright Exchanging feelings through words, With background music from the birds Oh, how I love it When you say the things I like Occasionally there is a wind, Which hinders our conversation But who knew that hearing you repeat yourself Would be the ultimate gratification Your voice truly melts my heart You bind my lips together I am intentionally speechless I could listen to you forever From your bright, happy smiley To your sexy confused talk Girl you’ve got me hypnotized With vocals as smooth as your walk Oh, say it again as we talk from 8 to 9, And 9 to 10 I could talk to you forever I’ll always hold this nature within

Stars
It’s time to go to bed, So I walk outside for my normal routine Calming down, dreaming, Blowing off some steam The air is crisp and calm; Things are peaceful and serene I lift my head in excitement To stare at the most beautiful things What are these things, you ask? Their number many, and beauty vast You can’t examine these things too fast For there are too many questions to asked All your answers you’ll never see ‘Til you take the time to look at these Their radiance is brilliant, And their sparkle beyond belief The fire of the finest diamond couldn’t compare to these things Their glow is unbelievable, Guaranteed to light up any life Further creation is impossible, Because the mold was broken twice I am in the deepest daze When I stare into this space To see these things is amazing; I can’t resist their style and flare Whenever I want to see these things, Your eyes are always there

Sometimes, I feel like I’m dreaming of your eyes And their pigment Is nothing but a figment Sending my imagination on a rollercoaster ride I get closer to your sparkling gems With every stride And I long to kiss your lips And take your tongue for a ride And give your soul a pleasant surprise I grasp your hands with all of my love Erasing all doubts and surmise To show your soul to the place Where all my feelings reside And when we kiss, you have surely arrived But following tradition, your eyes run and hide Yet this does not rob your colorful gates of their glow For your eyes will always be My secret window

Whenever I listen to an old song, it takes me back in time.
I can remember everything I was doing.
I can remember every word that crept from my mouth.
I can remember all of the feelings that I felt
When that song was playing.
Every now and then, a new song comes along,
And with that song comes
New feelings.
You are my new song, and as time passes,
You will be come my favorite

Wasup shorty Red? What’s that got you hooked? Your cute little face buried in a world book Distributin’ that knowledge t’every cranny and nook Enrichin’ a mind that makes a brotha’ look T w i c e And your mane’s pretty nice I’m pretty sure those starry eyes look just right But don’t look left For you might notice my theft Of the beauty of a radiant Queen so well kept And if you didn’t have that book, I’d probably not give you another look ‘Cause a well read sista’ is such a good hook Red, you know you’ve blessed the words you’ve read I just wonder what thoughts travel through that world of a head You rise, smile, you’re there And I’m trying not to stare I pray that I’m not caught, For it’d be too much to bear And if I am, I must be sure to Not Call You Red But simply… Beautiful

With every act of your embedded actions You meet all requirements for extreme visual satisfaction And you’ve got a brotha in a trance-like state I’ve got a five-year-old’s urge to cradle your hot plate With any part of my body, as long as our skins touch Your pleasing eye to I, satisfying our lips’ lust Baby, this is too much, and I know that I can’t trust That I won’t just lose myself And try my luck You’d better duck Cause my love is fierce Can’t even count on my hands the many hearts I’ve pierced You’d better not sleep You’ve dug a hole too deep Though you’re as fine as the finest dust, You still can’t seep Through this grasp that I have I’ll take you to other lands But babe, for now Can I just hold your hand?

Impression
During my weekly travels From session to session
You’ve become a subject Of much reflection
Since we now live in an age Of much confession
I must simply tell you, You’ve made an impression
With no beating around the bush,
Or leash or my expression I have no fear in telling you
You’ve taught me valuable lessons You’ve helped me with some things Like acknowledging some blessings
You’ve unconsciously aided my conscience In being delivered from stressin’
I can see the Lord work through your hands,
And sometimes your speech And you always remind me
That there’s no goal that I can’t reach So I reach
And I work hard to fill the impression That you’ve placed upon me
With hopes to one day fill you With the joy that I have received

Risk
Beauty is her name,
But can she say mine? I’m so scared to play her game
Because she’s so fine If I make a wrong move, My heart is on the line Should I pay the toll,
Or stop on my last dime? Should I play the player’s role, Or hold on to what’s
mine?
If I give a heart of gold, What do I get in return?
If I approach her strong and bold, Can I say that I won’t get burned?
If I play the quiet opossum, Every move every shake
I’ll miss out on the perfect chance It’s a risk I refuse to take

Investment
I was a kid in a candy store
And you were my admired shiny black licorice I was bright-eyed, and there were sweets galore
But nothing could beat my new shiny stick Sugar, you had me speaking gibberish
And I told the candy man I only wanted a lick Because I just didn’t have enough dollars and sense
And plus, I wanted to save you for tomorrow, and then save you for the other six
Days that I’d laugh and cry cause I knew I could never afford you But my hands just couldn’t stop dreaming of your touch
And my heart just truly adored you I cogitated on taking a chance because I had no intentions to bore you
But I couldn’t stop thinking of the world of things that I’d give the world
to do for you You made my heart boil
And you were as sweet as a fine peppermint oil With clover honey lips and root bear colored eyes, I was less for me,
and more for you I wanted to spoil you
And I knew you wouldn’t rot, but stay royal At the end of that week, I came back to the store
I feel blessed I’m so glad that I bought you

Not Ready
How can I follow my heart, When it’s already in so many places? Will it forever be impossible For me to distribute fair emotional wages? Will I forever have feelings For a copious amount of faces? Will I never be able to say that There’s only one that I play with? Will I never be able to say that There’s only one that I lay with? Will I never be ready to find the one Who I’m truly destined to stay with? I am truly not ready…

Purple passion, Purple lust, Purple fashion, Purple is a must Purple is royal – has too much genius to be confused Purple is loyal, and confident – “P” just can’ be used We are too flushed; Just too Purple crushed Too much Purple love is never enough Purple rain, Purple pain, Purple never acts in vain Purple is my Red rocket runnin’ through my Blue light veins
Spectacular! Purple gives it’s right arm, work’s it’s nerve, and breaks it’s neck Purple is an un-natural natural disaster A love train wreck There is no solution; there is no magic cure Purple just happens; there is no Purple lure There is no cause – only a Violet effect One Blue and Red touch, and you’re soaking Purple wet! As dark as ripened plum, but don’t worry, don’t fret Nobody’s going to eat you, but you may devour yourself And only then will your Purple be deeper than everyone else’s There is no quick solution; there is no special cure Purple is a Black, wack heart attack And purple sure aint pure Neither is it dirty Blue Purple just is And because we just are, we are Purple

Breasts sag, and butts get flat In time, she just can’t wear that hat Give it time, and she Just Can’t Wear Those Clothes In time, she may develop two or three rolls Slang gets old and soon cool aint so cold And a down chick may soon only be down for what’s gold Get your head straight ‘cause she may carry some head weight So don’t try to be a fake and neglect your blessed fate When bank accounts inflate and she remembers her love hate Don’t just stay with the chick cause she can bake you a blessed cake Makeup wipes away Tight skin goes astray But remember that inner beauty helps you love another day So when you spot a halo in the distance and you see that she’s Heaven sent Don’t hesitate to give your love ‘Cause all else is irrelevant

Special
I’ll get you all the knowledge you want to eat I’ll hold your hand when we cross the street
I’ll do for you all that you do for me And more if you request
I am at your feet
I’d do all possible for you to see How truly special you are to me
I’d take the flight, and walk the road Comfort you at night
And help you with your loads
There is no limit to what I’d do for thee I’d certainly help you live life with ease
For you are truly special to me

Love
Love knows no faults
Not because love is kind, But because love is blind
Love smells no tainted breath Love kisses ass to a shine
Love knows no death For love will always die with what’s mine
Love will let you spend its last dime Love will let you beat it one more time
Love may curse its maker, But not the flaws in your design
Love is not only mine, but it’s something that we share
For when our love is worn apart, it is both our hearts that tear Both our souls bear much stress and surprise
As we forever spend our lives Singing a song that will only end in our heart’s demise
But just as I fear no man, I fear no love either
Which is why I’ll never hesitate to give my heart when I see her
I love you

Pride
Majestic lioness Queen of the pride
The blood running through your veins Is a reflection of the love in your eyes
So soft, warm, and tender, Yet with a killer instinct
That will scare a man into blindness You are the epitome of splendor
I will never forget how you killed me with your
Kindness
All of my defenses are useless – I am frozen when you pounce
You force me to unearth my insecurities So I fight –
with you my love knows no bounds
If I make one wrong move, You will surely leave me or eat me alive But I will not slip, I am fully equipped,
I am ready to join your Pride

For Life
Girl, don’t you know it’s so hard for us To stop, and plus,
Listen to you talk to us We make the situation arduous
By fallin’ in love, girl you’re takin’ all of us Wasup, wasup?
You know I like the way you light my starter Plus
You’ve got my transmission goin' up, down, over Reverse
I kick it in high gear just to have you near
Will I ever leave you? No, it’s not likely dear
Have no fear I know it’s a commonly heard phrase
But I would surely catch you if you were to fall in a love daze And fall in love you must, to ride my rich bus Cause I only have one queen that gets my trust
And there’s only one queen that I’d title my wife If you just let me take your hand,
I could love you for life

Honest Work
Come on in working woman Slow down and have a seat
Take a deep breath in As I caress your blistered feet
Now exhale slowly and let the world’s poisons subside For you have not been forgotten
I understand the rigors of your ride Allow yourself to become enchanted By the fresh petals that scent the air Close your eyes working woman And let down your worried hair
Just lie back and relax,
As you’re mentally undressed of your facts The hard facts of life
I will surely clear your racks And your shelves of stress and pain
Dreamland is at your fingertips When my love flows through your veins
I’ll massage it into your temples And give your brain a ride to freedom
And I’ll give your soul so much love that soon you’ll need none But mine
Sometimes, I wonder how one pleases a woman so fine Beaten to a fine dust
Come on in working woman Place your heart in my hand
And I’ll rebuild you with your trust In me

Lucky
Placing my gaze upon the long cold beach There was a dead silence as far as the eye could see
The spirit was truly at work within me My whole body tingled as my soul was set free
I was lucky, truly lucky, From my head down to my feet
All of my anger had died
When I looked at the ocean wide I was so deep in my temper,
I almost broke down and cried But to myself I could not lie
I couldn’t let happiness pass me by I was lucky, truly lucky
That my waves were not too high
As I looked to the never-ending sky, After gazing at the sea
My heart was set at ease when the Lord blinked at me He assured me of his hold on us-
Told me to be worry free I am lucky, oh so lucky
That my love for you is so deep

Deep
Purple, I am so amazed at how you split my heart in two Not exactly fire red, and not exactly too cool blue But a perfectly passionate mix of the too few two
You make me stutter as my heart putters to your beat of rock blues Your heart sends me clues of a love so secret
With every heat flick and deep click Baby, your love rules
A universe over supreme, and a world over super Oh how our hearts make the perfect team! You’re the blackest purple I’ll ever meet
And your juice is so royally sweet Like the finest wine
Aged perfectly so that I may reap the treasures and rewards of your intense, mature speech
Baby, your love is everything but discrete I can get a kiss, or the freakiest love at any time on this sheet You are truly my April in Paris, and surely I’ve never been
But babe, with all of your mystery you are truly a world within Purple, where did you come from?
Was it the ground, or the sky? Or are you just the present soul of a past passerby?
You are truly a present to the ground, a gift to the sky, And a blessing to the sea
Oh, how thrifty it was for you to meet me! Purple, you rule the rainbow
And you show your love year ‘round from the springtime breeze to the winter’s snow But sometimes, I still feel so cold
And it’s because you know my worst And purple, if I could only relieve you of your past hurt
I just may have a chance to feed you with the love my heart spurts But I know love hurts
I’m in too deep

Wish
I wish I’d never seen her
I wish I wish I wish
I wish my crush wouldn’t be on her
I wish I’d never wished That my hand would someday be in hers
I wish she wasn’t my wish
I see her as an angel whom I never intended to snare A mere vision of her is as heavenly as the sweet scent of her hair
Whenever I see this angel, her smile is always there Her royal manner untangles my knots of doubt
And where
Do I find truth in such a belief That for me she will one day be there?
In my wish, my heart is stolen She’s a clever thief
I’m my heart, she’s the prize of my prayers
I wish I’d never met her For I don’t know what else to do
With dreams in my soul to wed her I feel like a wishing fool
I wish I’d never spoken to her
For her sweet voice excites my tubes But who knows of a wish that always comes true?
I wish I wasn’t wishing of you

Writer’s Block
My fantasies are only fantasies And my dreams are just the same
I can sit all day and wonder why I can’t write When I think of your name
Not one verse
I can’t find the time And my desire to be true is too strong
But I can’t write a truthful line And Lord, I feel so wrong
When I write about what I need
My heart can be so youthful So I wonder if I need you
Or not
Girl, Thinking ‘bout you gives me writer’s block
