Declaration to Your Unborn Child“The great use of life is to spend it for something

that will outlast it.” - William James

Your Brighton Plan begins the moment you commit. The word “conception” comes from the root word, “to conceive,” which means, “to formulate, to visualize, and to originate.” Before you conceive is the time to visualize your

future child and to get committed to realizing your vision. By visualizing your future child and getting committed to conceiving what you visualize, you and your environment move into action to make it happen.

“When We Fail to Plan, We Plan to Fail” - Yogi Bhajan

We spend most of our lives casually considering becoming parents “one day.” Then all at once, “one day” seems to hit us on the head like a meteor falling from the sky. People that approach conception as an accidental can end up disappointed. In the long run, we sell our children short when we fail to plan.

The purpose of The Brighton Method is to move you from having a casual relationship to parenting to having a formal and eventually intimate relationship to it. When we as human beings declare our intention to do something and then take committed action, we have the ability to accomplish anything we set our minds to.

Intention + Commitment + Action = Conception

I want to invite you to have a private conversation with yourself. Ask yourself why you want to conceive a child? What kind of a mother or father does your extraordinary future child deserve? Who are you committed to being for your future child? List all of the reasons motivating you to have a child.

Since this is a private conversation between you and yourself, authenticity is important. For instance, you may confess to yourself that you want to have a child simply because you want someone to love you just the way you are, or that you want someone that you can take care of, or that you want your partner to stay with you and are afraid that he or she will leave if you do not start a family.

No matter what your answers are, getting in touch with your unconscious or subconscious motivations will help you to begin to visualize the experience of becoming a parent more fully. To be ordinary is to allow your own self-judgments, limitations, and ego to interfere with your potential. It is important not to judge yourself for your answers. Instead, look for opportunities to become extraordinary. And, instead of focusing on what you don’t want, focus on what you do want.

Your Future Child Exists As Unlimited Possibility

Right now, your future child exists as an intention . . . as unlimited possibility. As you begin to get committed, your perceived world begins to occur inside of the new context you just created. By bringing your awareness every day to your intention to conceive an extraordinary child, you begin to bring your choices into alignment with your vision. Without even thinking about it, you begin to take action to fulfill your goal.

Being Extraordinary is Having Integrity Even in the Face of Disappointment & Self-Doubt

Integrity is honoring your word as your bond with yourself, your partner, and your future child. Having integrity is not the same as “looking good” or looking like you are doing the right thing. The goal of integrity is not to seek out acknowledgment. Integrity has nothing to do with sentimental love. Integrity is simply doing what you said you would do . . . no matter what, when no one is watching. Inside of integrity, anything is possible and miracles simply arise.

Jot down your thoughts

Brainstorming. Who do you want to be for your future child? Are you going to be loving, truthful, playful, inspiring, challenging, trusting, principled, and ethical?

Below, create a list of traits that you would like to embody before, during, and after you conceive your baby. Consider incorporating some of these words into your Declaration on page 5.

Writers block? If it is easier for you to simply write your future child a letter, feel free to do so. As you communicate with your future child in writing, you may become more comfortable with writing a powerful declaration.
