It was essentially the American colonies breaking up with England

Parts of the Declaration of Independence

Similar to your Break Up letter, the Declaration of Independence had 5 main parts to it:

1. Preamble

2. Statement of Beliefs

3. List of Complaints

4.Steps taken to address

5.Declaration

1. Preamble (Introduction)

Explains the reasons for writing the Declaration

States it is necessary to politically separate (America and England)

2. Statement of BeliefsAll men are created equal

Rights given to them by their Creator, NOT by the people running the government

Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness Unalienable Rights

List of Complaints

The Founding Fathers are describing the events that the King has done against them such as:

Keeping soldiers in America ready to fight the colonistsCut off trade with other countriesTaxation without representation

Steps taken to address complaints

The colonists did the following before breaking apart from England:

Warned themReminded them of the situationAppealed to them

But England “fell deaf” to their voices

Therefore, it was necessary for the colonists to take it to the next step
