Emergency sheet printing. At the end of 2012 De La Rue relocated their stamp printing facilities to another plant already owned by the company in Gateshead. The move and restablishment of their gravure press took longer than anticipated, over-running into the period when new tariff values were due, causing Royal Mail significant diffiulties. Walsall were called in to create a small emergency supply to meet the rate change deadline, resulting in quite different printings. The date code on these Walsall printings took the form of M13L, whereas De La Rue used the then more conventional MA13 format for their reprints, when they were fully up and running in their new location.

In 2018, Walsall won the contract to print all national sheet printed stamps from De La Rue. Walsall had printed sheet stamps before but only as a stand in measure when De La Rue were unable to fulfill their normal commitments.

Stamps were printed in compact sheets of 25 on type 2 security printed backing paper in either L/S or S/L orientation.

Yellow & Violet Tinted Fluor. In early sheet printings Walsall used a phosphor with a fluor additive that was very different from what had commonly been seen before. Although still very much a blue colour overall, it fluoresces with a yellowish tint to it. This only affected non-tarriff and NVIs, not the higher rate tarriff definitives. Later printings from May onwards reverted to the familar blue fluor with a distinctly violet tint, when examined under short wave UV. Under long wave UV there is barely any discernible difference between the variations, but under shortwave UV the two variants are quite distinct and collectable and are listed herewith.
