Hoodland Public Library’s Giving TreeBring your new or handmade hats, ear-warmers, mittens/gloves,

scarves, socks, and slippers to decorate the holiday tree at the Hood-land Public Library through Wed., Dec. 12. The items will go to the

Hoodland Community Christmas Basket program for local families. Applications for baskets are available at various locations in the com-

Sandy LibraryShare with people in need in our community via the Sandy Public

Library’s Giving Tree. The items donated will be displayed on the tree and then given to the Sandy Community Action Center by the middle of December. We would appreciate donations of hats, scarves, gloves,

mittens, socks, and this year we are adding personal care products: Toothbrushes and toothpaste, soap, shampoo, deodorant, hand

lotion, travel Kleenex, lip balm, combs, etc.

Giving Tree

This Frazier Fir was donated by the Knapp Family Farm for Building Community Connections Through Giving

Library Coffeehouse is held on the first Friday of each month at 6 pm. This event features live music, refreshments, and a craft for kids. If you are interested in playing for us send an email to libraryassistants@ci.sandy.or.us

Mary Flower’s finger picking guitar and lap-slide prowess is soulful and meter-perfect, a deft blend of the inventive, the dexterous and the mesmerizing. Her supple honey-and-whis-key voice provides the perfect melodic accompaniment to each song’s story.

An internationally known and award-winning picker, singer/songwriter and teacher, the Midwest native relocated from Denver to the vibrant Portland, Oregon music scene in in 2004. She continues to please crowds and critics at folk festivals, teaching seminars and concert stages domestically and abroad, that include Merlefest, Kerrville, King Biscuit, Prairie Home Companion and the Vancouver Folk Festival, among many.

A finalist in 2000 and 2002 at the National Finger Picking Guitar Championship, a nominee in 2008, 2012 and 2016 for a Blues Foundation Blues Music Award, and many times a Cascade Blues Assn. Muddy Award winner, Flower embodies a luscious and lusty mix of rootsy, acoustic-blues guitar and vocal styles that span a number of idioms – from Piedmont to the Mississippi Delta, with stops in ragtime, swing, folk and hot jazz.

Flower’s 11 recordings, including her four for Memphis’ famed Yellow Dog Records — Bywater Dance, Instrumental Break-down, Bridges and Misery Loves Company — show a deep com-mand of and love for folk and blues string music. Nancy Johanesen-Dressler will show her historical documen-tary about the City of Sandy. The Sandy area was an import-ant crossroad between the Oregon Trail and the Barlow road with over 50,000 pioneers crossing over. The DVD we will be viewing has been endorsed by the Oregon Trail School District and added to their curriculum. It is also endorsed by the Sandy Historical Society Museum.

Ms. Johanesen-Dressler has worked as a radio D.J. at KNND/KCGR Cottage Grove and at KMHD; the Jazz Station in Gresh-am. She has also worked at MCTV cable television, and for the US Forest Service.Nancy is excited to have narrated and brought to life the book, “80 Years In The Same Neighborhood” written by local author, Phil Jonsrud. Have you ever wondered what Nepal is like? Susie Jenkins will share her travel adventures in the beautiful country of Nepal. See images of Kathmandu tem-ples, prayer flags, antiquities, and ... monkeys! Experience trekking in the moun-tains, waking up each morning to a cup of tea and watching the sun come up in the Annapurna range. Then on to Pokhara with a colorful boat ride on Fewa Lake. Finish the trip in the jungle at Chitwan National Park to see elephants and other wild animals up close and personal.
