Transcript of December Newsletter
A Note from your Magnet Coordinator Thank you parents and guardians! Your participation in Open House, Parent Conference Week, and
Parent Conference Night truly reflects what wonderful and very involved parents we have in the
Magnet family. Magnet Teachers welcome ongoing communication about your child’s grades and
progress. We all want to make sure that all of our students are successful and college ready!
As, stated at the last Magnet Parent Meeting, we welcome volunteers at Magnet field trips, events,
and school wide events! Your help encourages a safe and fun environment for our students.
Please review the calendar for upcoming events! Students are encouraged to read everyday during
vacation and keep up with their studies for Advanced Placement and Honors classes.
We look forward to seeing you soon! Have a safe and happy holiday season!
Sincerely,
Maria Che Parker

Break
Important Dates to
Remember
Although winter break is a time to relax and spend time with the family, it’s also a great opportu-
nity for your child to either catch up or advance in school. The following are some tips to help your
child remain competitive!
1. Read everyday! Be it the news paper, a magazine, or novel, your child need to read to build on
vocabulary words
2. Math Drills! Have your child go online and time himself/herself on math drills, this will ensure
his/her retention rates do not wane over break
3. Research Colleges! Have students visit colleges online! Many colleges have their tours online.
This is a great opportunity to research financial aid, types of majors offered, and activities
available for your child! It’s never to early to start thinking about your child’s future.
4. SAT/ACT Prep! There are several free websites and books at the library that offer SAT prep!
Students can start taking the test in their junior year to prepare for college applications.
