Hey Division 1,

I hope that everyone has enjoyed the break and is ready to ring in the new

2012 year! We have three months left of this service year so let’s make

them really count. Please pay careful attention to the events that are com-

ing up which are detailed in this newsletter. We’ve had a very successful

year so far! Let’s continue to strengthen our division and prepare for Dis-

trict Convention as it quickly approaches.

Seniors! Please be sure to review the Scholarships packet, and presidents,

please be sure to fill out your club’s Annual Achievement Report Form! If

you need these files, please email me so I can send them to you.

If you have any questions, comments or concerns, feel free to contact me

at any time. Happy Holidays, everyone!

Yours in Caring and Service,

Cecilia Kang

ON FRIDAY, DECEMBER 9TH,

students from the New Jersey District

(and even New York) arrived at Camp

Lebanon in Lebanon, NJ for the week-

end of a lifetime. Key Leader is Ki-

wanis International’s leadership educa-

tion program for high school students.

Its mission is to provide a “life-

changing experience that inspires

young people to achieve their personal

best through service leadership.” The

lead facilitator, Brian Ritchie, spent

the weekend reviewing the Key Leader

principles and sharing many stories

and tips to teach everyone how to be a

better leader

The most heartwarming part

of the weekend seemed to be the

viewing of clips from “The Collector

of Bedford Street”, a documentary

film about Larry Selman, a community

activist and fundraiser with a disability.

By watching clips of this film and

many others, listening and sharing

stories, and participating in various

activities, the students who attended

Key Leader learned a lot about them-

selves and what kinds of leaders they

are.

If you are an underclassman,

it is strongly recommended that you

attend Key Leader next year so that

you can continue to grow and learn. I

can guarantee that you will not regret

it. With Key Leader, you will learn

about personal integrity, personal

growth, respect, building community,

and pursuit of excellence.

Officer of the Month

Advocacy

Article written by Division 14

LTG Celina Baquiran

Be the Peace to the Puzzle! Let us not

forgot about this service year’s advocacy

focuses: Invisible Children and Autism.

Remember, no fundraising is involved

with our advocacy focuses. So what can

clubs do to help our advocacy focuses?

Easy! Clubs can participate in service

projects such as attending Autism walks,

having an Invisible Children screening

at your school, participating in days of

silence, and much much more. Invisible

Children works with other organiza-

tions in which book, clothing and shoe

donations will be given to those in

Uganda. There are a plethora of organi-

zations that work with Autism, so have

your club contact them and see if you

can help out a recreation therapy.

The officer of the Month for the month of

December is Egg Harbor Township Key Club’s

Corresponding Secretary, Michelle Chen! She

has emailed all of her CMRFs early or on time.

Aside from fulfilling all of her duties as a

secretary, Michelle has been especially helpful

as a presiding officer of her committee (at

EHTHS). She has been a great contact for her

committee chairs and her officers and has been

very prompt. She has also been posting sign-up

sheets and reminders online, being a very

helpful officer of her Key Club. Great job,

Michelle! Keep up the great work!
