ike Salyer had an idea to build a motorcycle with his

friend. Like many bikes builds, this beautiful bobber did

not start off looking close to how it was planned, even

the owners were changed. Originally Mike Salyer cameo HWY 66 Choppers with an idea about building a bike for a friend. The

plan was to build a simple rigid bobber with drag bars and a Evolution style

motor. After starting the project, Mikes friend backed out and didnt want

o continue. Mike said the hell with it and gured to continue the build and

keep it for himself. This is when the old plan was thrown out the window

and the ideas started ying through his head. The rst thing was to give the

kraftrich frame a cool look and custom rear fender. So they took the frame

o Mad Mike Santoro and sons. Giving Mad Mike some info he tweaked the

rame a little with a lift, stretch, and everything else the wanted.

Clint from HWY 66 Choppers had an idea to shoot the tank and

make bullet holes go completely through it. They turned to Mad

Mike to make this crazy but innovative idea happen. The Bob-

bers new look and style was coming together. The next thing

was the power plant and drive train. Mike Salyer had been

holding on to a 98 cubic inch shovelhead that was per-

ect for this bike to push the 200-rear tire. Since he is Old

School, there was no question that the bike had to have a

Springer front end, no front brake, suicide shift, ratchet top

rans, and a kick start to keep that old school look and

eel. Next step was to get Jason from Sacred Steel to

abricate some of the sickest oil tanks for this uniquebike. They were made to look like bombs that could be

    dropped onto any target.

Now it was time for paint. Doug Starbuck of Star Side

Designs has the magic to make it all come together. The

only way to go was to give it a ghter jet theme, with the

yes, teeth, pin-up girls, and rivets. Star Side Designs took

hat idea and made this paint job simply awesome. The

ghter jet themed was looking great but it was lacking some-

hing. So a grenade shifter, some bassani exhausts, custom headlight bracket and a

harmonica style microphone for the rear brake light was added to tighten it all up.

ust when you think what else can they do to this bike, a handmade leather seat byTony Murga was mounted to complete this project.

This bike not only looks beautiful, but this beast at out hauls. Mike is no stranger to speed,

he races speedway. He might have been a little bit leary on pulling the pin and taming this

Hot Rod. So Clint opted to put an extra grip about half way down the high-rise bars

o the reach is not so far between shifts to make Mike feel a little bit more like his

    Speedway race bike.

I would think its safe to say Mike used his professional racing skills and made Hell Bound

Betty sing. To say that Betty was just what Mike Salyer thought she was going to look like would

be a lie. This bike changed style and design through out the build. From the custom headlight

bracket to the harmonica microphone taillight. This bike is truly one of a kind.

LE Tonglet takes home the Championship

This year was the KragenOReilly Drags 50th an-niversary for the National HotRod Association (NHRA) FullThrottle Drag Racing Seriescompetition at the Auto ClubRaceway in Pomona, CA. Thecompetition did not disappoint.Eddie Krawiec delivered thequickest run in the history ofthe Pro Stock Motorcycle classaboard his Screamin EagleVance & Hines Harley-David-son, a national-record pass of6.811 seconds. Krawiec raced

a special military-themed V-Rodin honor of Harley-DavidsonsSecond Annual Military Appre-ciation Month. This win was Eddies second Wally of the yearAndrew Hines held a narrow34-point margin over LE Ton-glet going into the weekend atPomona. In Qualifying, Andrewwas able to extend his lead to

36 points, which meant thatTonglet would have to go atleast two rounds further in Eliminations in order to take homethe championship. Unfortu-nately Andrew Hines rst-roundred light to Matt Guidera left thedoor wide open. LE Tonglet sawhis chance and proceeded towin his rst and second roundmatches in Eliminations, while

earning him the 40 points heneeded to overtake AndrewHines for the championship.

Tonglet is just the third rookieto win a Pro championship. That will put him in some goodcompany with the likes of FrankHawley (1982) and Gary Scelz

Specialty Equipment Market Association(SEMA) was formed in 1963 by a group oftalented minds, Roy Richter, Ed iskenderian,Willie Garner, Bob Hedman, John Bartlett,Phil Weiand, Jr., Al Segal, Dean Moon and VicEdelbrock, Jr. Popular for serving the motorvehicle aftermarket and as part of the AAIW,the SEMA show attracts thousands and thou-sands of companies who are todays industryleaders from all around the world for the un-limited prot opportunities in the automotive, truck and SUV, RV, and motorcycle markets.Where better for it to be than Las Vegas, Ne-vada held at the Las Vegas Convention Cen-ter. It is said that the SEMA show for the year2009 attracted more than 60,000 domesticand international buyers. The displays aresegmented into twelve sections and a new

products showcase, which featured nearly1,500 newly, introduced parts, tools andcomponents. In addition, the SEMA showprovides attendees with educational semi-nars, product demonstrations, special eventsand networking opportunities and more.SEMA puts on the greatest car show to whichthe public is not invited. In brief it is a meet-and-greet for manufacturers, distributors, andvendors of aftermarket parts. It has evolvedinto one of the best custom-car shows in thecountry. How you ask, well if you want to drawattention to your product, what better waythan to showcase it on the best car out there. The SEMA show is closed to the average en-thusiast. Fortunately for us, media does getan invite and our mission at SEMA is to bringyou the best motorcycles SEMA has to offer. We wondered how many outstanding buildsmight await our journey through the weekof SEMA. We were reminded on just how

deep the automotive insanity runs at thisevent. There were so many amazing sites. The wide variety of booths with childrenstoys, classic cars, VIP style, Import, Luxury, truck, barn nds, custom cars and the sick-est motorcycles ever. The builders, vendors, and aftermarket guys who largely comprisethe SEMA show hit us with one awesomesight after another. The experience is crazywith so much to see and a lot going on. If

there wasnt enough going on inside, there was justas much if not more outside. The show withinshow; DUB show, the Monster stage, Galpin mo-tor sports, motorcycle stunts, and a drift exhibitionA major component missing almost entirely fromSEMA are motorcycles and the sport-compactscene seems to be fading away. The muscle car

were everywhere. With the motorcycles placedthroughout the different halls we hope to see achange in that rather soon. With so many vehiclesto choose from, the miles of walking, food, and themany industry parties, it was a great time had byall. We cant wait for next year and all that leadsup to SEMA 2011The SEMA show has come and gone, here aresome highlights from the 2010 SEMA show in LasVegas.

Saftey rst, its in all of our best interest to avoid injuries. Almost everyone who rides amotorcycle wears a helmet, boots, chest protector and some sort of knee guard or brace.Everyday more of us are wearing a neck brace. A couple of great examples would be theAlpinestars Bionic Neck Support and a Leatt neck brace.

These are obvious ways of protecting the visuals but what about those body parts that you cannotsee? Those organs that is important yet hidden from site, the kidneys. May it be that you think j

because you cannot see them they are less important then the head? In the event of a crash, aninjury to the kidneys may be much more life threatening and less evident than other possible injurieone could have.

Based on our research, we have found a few studies over a twelve-year period on the differentinjuries one can have while riding in the sport of motocross. It was concluded that for every 22.27hours of outdoor mx riding, a rider is likely to get injured. Falling in a turn or a simple tip over andgetting a scrape or two is not what we are talking about. A full 21.2%of these injuries were to thelower trunk where your kidneys are. More than half, 59.9% were ligaments, and 42.4% of thoseaffecting the knees. This is why I wear knee braces! For supercross, the numbers seem to appearmuch worse.

You may or may not know why it is important to take care of your kidneys. Whichever the case, itis crucial you do. Your kidneys are vital; they perform many functions to keep your blood clean andchemically balanced. They are constantly active, sophisticated, reprocessing machines. Everydaya persons kidneys process about 200 quarts of blood to sift out about 2 quarts of waste productsand extra water. That is 50 gallons of your blood each day the kidneys are ltering. After the bodyhas taken what it needs from food, wastes are sent to the blood.

These wastes and extra water become urine, which ows to the bladder through tubes called ure-thras. Your bladder stores urine until you cant hold it any longer and to relieve pressure, you run tothe nearest restroom. If the kidneys did not remove them, these wastes would build up in the bloodand cause major damage the human body. Chemicals like sodium, phosphorus, and potassium are

all measured by the kidneys and released back intothe blood to return to the body. In this way, the kid-neys regulate the bodys level of these substances. The right balance is necessary for life. Serious heaproblems occur when people have less than twentyve percent of their kidney function. When the kid-ney function drops below 10 to 15 percent, a personneeds some form of renal replacement therapy, thiswould be either a blood-cleansing treatment calleddialysis or a kidney transplant to sustain life.

Your kidneys are located at the back of the abdomenon either side of your spine. The rib cage and thestrong muscles of the lower back protect the kidneysThis location protects the kidneys from many externaforces. They are well padded for a reason kidneysare highly vascular organs, which means that theyhave a large blood supply. If injury occurs, severebleeding may result.

Cleaning products, solvents, and fuels should beused in a well-ventilated area due to fumes. Uponentering your system, they will be ltered by yourkidneys and may be toxic.

Any injury to the kidneys should be taken extremelyserious. If the kidneys are hurt in any way, toxins cleak into the body causing pretty serious health com-plications, even death. To make matters worse, you

cannot see this happening. Injuries dont only occufrom a crash but also from the beating and bangingfrom riding in general.

We hope we have your attention at this point and youare wondering what you can do to protect your kid-neys. Kidney belts are the answer, they are designedto protect the kidneys and surrounding organs, theyalso serve to stabilize the back, promoting a moreupright riding position. When worn correctly, just tightenough not to inhibit your breathing, these belts com

press the surrounding tissues and by stabilizing theinternal organs, vastly reducing the amount of move-ment, thereby reducing the potential aches and painsthat may occur after a long day of riding. In additionto this, the materials used by todays manufacturersprovide an added level of puncture protection for thearea.

We know protective gear cant promise to protect youagainst all unforeseeable situations. For me it certainly doesnt hurt to wear one. So go out and get one.
